do the skins look different for your gun only or your player only? if they affect how every player on the map looks and how their weapon looks you should probably not use custom skins in the tournement

The way custom models work is that there are several graphics that you can choose to install. It's models that you see in first person, models that other people use, and models for when the gun is on the ground. So, you don't have to install the changes for other people's guns. Really though, the only thing that would be bad for a tournament would be changing the player models.

even weapon models should not be changed for the tourney, as they could be brighter and easier to see on the ground

Quite the selection eh guys... I was surprised there were so many actual new models.

As for dif weapon skins being ANY sort of advantage in the tourney.. gimme a break, are we really that uptight?
I don't see them being much of an advantage anyways.

the concern i had was if it changed how other weapons in the hands of your enemies looked or if it would look different laying on the ground if neither of these is true i do not see how it would impact the game in any way other than looking better for you as a player myself i have enough trouble concentrating now all i need is more distractions, i can see myself now running around noticing how cool my new skins are and get hs by filthy

I have a few recommendations if anyone is interested. I've tested these out so far:

Real Weapon Names: This is a must-have. Who wouldn't want to see the real names of the guns?
Wannabe Desert Eagle: The first deagle skin you will see. I had one similar to it in 1.6, and it's girthy size is easy to appreciate. For some odd reason it's firing animation makes me feel more deadly with it.
Stars m9 Five-seveN: Pretty sweet skin, and the wooden grip is a nice changeup. The firing animation is sleek as hell and the reload/switch animation stays true to the original Five-seveN's, so it's not a complete departure.
Silver Scout: It looks alright, but it's contrast between silver and black can be a bit much at times. Not a staggering transition of a skin.
For Compact p228: A skin good enough to replace the other; the addition of night-sights is pretty nifty as well. The firing animation along with the tiny muzzle-flash seems a bit weird though.

ok after i unzip the folder a bunch of files come up which one do i use?

*eric#3304*
04-12-2005, 09:13 PM
and how do i "restart" cs?

FiLTHY_SNiPER
04-12-2005, 10:20 PM
I'm guessin by restart u mean reset it so all the default weapons r back right? To do that u just delete the files u extract..

For most guns that u DL, there should be a materials and models folder to extract. Extract them both into ur cstrike folder (dont worry, they shouldnt overwrite anything.. if they do, dont install them)

I think I accidentally saved over my previous skins. :x I love the all chrome autoshotty, but I can't seem to get rid of my pump shotty skin. Do i just delete my models folder, or is there a way that I can tell which skin the folder is in?

Saur
04-15-2005, 05:36 PM
That's a good site for skins, though I've chanced upon one with more variety.

This is actually the forum the skin/model developers use to showcase their work.

It's at the clan of the deag goat @ http://cdg.csnation.net/viewforum.php?f=29

They've finally got weapon models out there with laser sights :D

I'm still waitin' for golden dualies though :P

Awesome, thanks for the link man.

@professor: u can delete the models folder that is directly in ur cstrike folder (cstrike/models) and also the weapons folder in materials/models

Vash
04-16-2005, 02:46 PM
Save them to whatever folder. Then extract them into the cstrike folder. You don't have to restart your computer for them to show. At least most of them.

Pillsbury doughboy
04-16-2005, 02:48 PM
ok thx ill try it

Monochrome
04-16-2005, 02:48 PM
no don't download the zip files into the cstrike folder, just put them in a generic download folder (outside of anything steam related, should be located in the c drive). then, w/o restarting the computer, go and open those zip files with winzip and extract everything in the zip files into the cstrike file. it may ask you if u want to over write a file called readme.txt or credits.txt, but i just went ahead and didn't bother. everything else should be fine.

Pillsbury doughboy
04-16-2005, 02:53 PM
how do i know if it worked? or do i have to activate something?

Pillsbury doughboy
04-16-2005, 03:08 PM
i got it to work guys thx for everything.

just one more queation if i have 2 different skins for the same gun, how do i switch inbetween them??

Monochrome
04-16-2005, 03:19 PM
good question. if it was part of the same download, i would read the readme file of that download (still located in the zip file) and see what it says. if its two different download files, then you would have to unzip each one seperately whenever you wanted to use it. that is, you can't have two different models of the same gun in the file at the same time, they over write each other, so you would have to re extract the other if u wanted to use it, and so on and so forth. its best just to stick with one model unless u want to change it.

Monochrome
04-16-2005, 03:36 PM
btw, anyone know any good scout models that include world versions? its really annoying picking up a scout and having it change shape in your hands. makes it seem like its two different guns.

kem$
04-16-2005, 04:06 PM
The method that you use to install skins.. Can I use that same method for maps?

Monochrome
04-16-2005, 04:09 PM
yes, but they have to be extracted into the maps section of the cstrike folder.

TC HEAT
04-16-2005, 04:35 PM
all i did was make a models folder in my materials folder..Extracted the gun folder../programs/valve/steam/steamaps/email/source/cstrike/ and it put every thing were it was suppose to be for me...

if you change the world view that could be considered cheating since it might make a weapon stand out more giving you an advantage

i did not realize that, and most of the new skins i downloaded do have world versions, but i don't think it could help me cheat in anyway (none of them are bright pink or anything). i just want them to look as pretty lying on the ground as they do in my hand :jester:

SalemSaberhagen
04-16-2005, 04:46 PM
Yeah... world models aren't cheating... the only ones that I think you could consider cheating are the weapon models while the weapon is in another players hand... I mean... if it changes the look from your view and while it is on the ground that is no biggie... but if it is really bright or something in other peoples hands... that would be cheating.

Monochrome
04-16-2005, 04:49 PM
yea, none of my new models are bright in anyway (cept maybe the chrome ones, but they look really cool and are shiny, not really bright). the only model that was pink was a scout one, but it hurt my eyes to look at, so i use a black one. everything else just looks like more detailed guns.
