Rumor Mongering: X360 Price Drop This Year? (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3151627)

OK, why would they do that?

i also thik its to do with blue-ray(sony) VS HD(microsoft) aswell, like the whole beta max and Vhs years ago.

this is where i think sony may lose out if they dont drop the ps3 price, and blue-ray in general.

if they lose to HD and it becomes the standard, then the ps3 will be pretty much just a games console that will make it worth less as its no longer a all in one machine (unless you get Br dvd's that will ONLY work on ps3) and since its not HD compatible it will not play the new high def dvd's and such making the X360 look as a better buy.

I think it's the smartest thing microsoft could do right now, by dropping the price of the 360 they create an even larger price gap between the xbox and the PS3, when consumers see that an xbox will cost them 200-300 dollars less then a PS3 there will be no doubt which one is a better buy.

I'll still buy the PS3 for the games. If the 360 goes the same route as the original there will only be a few good original games that come out for the X-box in comparison to what will come out on the PS3 or the Wii.

I'll get a 360 just for Gears of War, and I'm not ashamed to say it.

I'll get one for GOW too, but also for Huxley, Mass Effect and Assassins: Creed.

the price drop goes along with market flow, within a year, they have pretty much streamlined their production and have enough units in back stock.

but the big thing, is the 65nm units that are supposed to be starting to ship 07.

I always thought that when games came out for both the XBOX and the PS2, the games looked much better on the XBOX.

Price Drop? What Price Drop?
Microsoft executive shoots down persistent price cut rumors.
by Wade Steel (http://xbox360.ign.com/email.html)

June 26, 2006 - Ever since the revelation of the PlayStation 3's price tag at this year's E3, the internet has been rife with speculation that Microsoft would counterpunch its rival Sony with a price cut on the Xbox 360. However, it appears that such a notion will not come to fruition as a Microsoft executive has categorically stated that there are no "current" plans for an Xbox 360 price drop.

In a posting on his personal blog, John Porcaro, group manager of PR and communications for Microsoft (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/714/714773p1.html#) US, stated that "the official word from folks in the know is that there are currently no plans for a price drop this fall."

Porcaro goes on to encourage those waiting for an Xbox 360 price drop to "wait no longer" and goes on to recite a litany of reasons to jump on the Xbox 360 bandwagon including Xbox Live and current/upcoming games.

In a somewhat predictable swipe at his Sony (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/714/714773p1.html#) compeitor and its Blu-Ray high definition DVD (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/714/714773p1.html#) technology, Porcaro states that Xbox 360 gamers will be in perfect glee this holiday season playing games on the "affordable" Xbox 360 while others will "go broke" because "they're forced to buy movie technology with their game console."

It is worth noting that Porcaro stated that there are no "current" plans for an Xbox 360 price cut which leaves open the door for a future discount should "the powers that be" decide one is needed.
