AGP is dead, you just wasted 300$
you couldve got a pci-e mobo+midrange pci-e videocard for that much.,

wrong. I would have had to buy a new processor, mobo and pci-e card. the cost is not comparable.

Very good point, unless you have an AMD Socket 939, but you have a Socket 478 Intel. Here is an open ended question: Why did Nvidia cripple the 7800GS and not make it a 7800GT with an AGP coverter?

the secondary cpu creates a bandwidth bottleneck on the AGP bus, (notice 6600GT agp vs 6600gt pci-e) same card same clocks, but the PCI-e will outproform it's agp.

that and if they named it GT everyone would avoid the 7800GT agp because of the drop in proformance compared to it's pci-e counterpart.

and personally, i would have just waited until i had enough money to swap out the major parts.

Well the point is that the processor and mobo aren't THAT bad. It would be wasteful to get rid of them. The cost of a whole new mobo and processor PLUS the vid card and everything else is about doubly worse on my pocket book.

well you convert the old mobo/cpu/ram into a MCE server and add it to the network.

use it for storage/torrents/mediacenter.

that all costs more money.

not really.

put a new HDD in it, get MCE(not saying how, but get), connect it to the network(or directly to a TV) play stuff on the TV from MCE or if you have an extender play music and video anywhere else in the house(wireless probally best idea)
