Same thing happens hear sometimes. Maybe cause there is other topics in that forum that you haven’t read yet. Maybe that’s why?

It could also be the update forum posts setting in the VB Config, on big boards this setting helps keep server loads down by delaying the updates.

Not sure how it is set up though.

I'm experimenting with some settings. We've been noticing that sometimes the site doesn't come up or it's really slow. So we're testing some settings in the backend. What we did was change the way read messages are marked. Before, it tracked each one of you and put the data in the database. We changed it so that it uses cookie on your system. That's why things are a little weird right now. We wanted to see if this is what's causing the slow down on our board.

That seems like it would slow things down. Boards are nice, but when something goes wrong they cause a lot of headache. I know this from personal experiance.

well i figured out a way to make it read read.

for example,

in this thread you would click site feed back, then click wih gaming forums to make it read...

you have to back track instead of jumping to the main forum again...

keep on keepin on...

Not sure if you are using gzip but if so, while it does help with bandwidth usage it will "sloooow" things down real quick.

You might want to optimize your database table under the "Maintenance" section of the vb admin panel, if you havent already done that. Also take a peek at your server load, also in the admin panel.

Thanks DJ. I'll take a look at those settings!

No problem, there are a bunch of other settings that will also cause slow downs, I would suggest that when you get the time, just go through all of the vbulletin settings and look at them, they are pretty well documented in the descriptions as to what will cause performance issues, 2 other biggies besides the ones I mentioned above would be Thread Ratings, and Thread Subscriptions, once you go through there you will see them. (Provided that you havent already done this already ;) )

It woudl seem that the problem is not our forums. It's external. I can't get to our server's cpanel and I can't SSH into it either. Both are indicators that the problem is not with the forum. I have emailed our web host provider to have them run some diagnostics.

But I did reset teh cookies setting back to database and I also turned off gzip compression, oh and optimized the database tables as well.
