Overview

This is a detailed guide on how to camp on all the basic maps in CS:S. Tactics, tricks and weapons that will be used need to be discussed, as well as methods to avoid snipers. Although I will focus on all aspects of camping most of them are interrelated with the tactics for sniping. I will take a look at highly succesful spots that allow you to generate a good score.

Weaponry

For snipers it is pretty simple as the scout (ct rifle 2, t rifle 3) is the only sniper rifle allowed on our server. Kevlar does not need to be bought; as if you are in a position where you are being openly shot at you have already lost the spot and probably the round. There are to different approaches to your secondary, some swear by the deagle, while others (myself included) prefer to stick with my base pistol (especially if ct). Again if the enemy is close enough that a pistol is required you are already in it knee deep. If you are on a bomb map buy a defusing kit if possible. You do not need to buy the full extra clips of scout ammo just one will suffice (just buy one reserve by pressing “,”). I have never used more than 30 bullets in a round (and rarely go over 10) so you only need one real backup clip. Flashbangs and smoke grenades aren’t very helpful to you while he grenades can help you hit enemies behind cover. Usually I just go with a he grenade.

Now for other modes of camping not involving sniping you want a high impact/damage rifle and preferably silenced. You want to know where the enemy is coming from kill him quickly and retreat before his allies catch on. The m4a1 is the ct weapon of choice for camping as it is very strong and silenced. The tmp although silenced is not very effective as it does little damage. Again for pistols the usp is even better than the deagle because of the silencer. Other possible weapons for ct camping include the m249 (machine gun), m3 pump shotty (very potent at close range) and the famas (ct rifle 1).

Terrorists have a tougher time with camping as they have no silenced weapons other than the usp. Usually the ak47 is the only substitute due to its power and accuracy at range, but once revealed it loses the surprise value.

I also suggest the console command cl_crosshairscale 10000 which shrinks your crosshairs to the smallest size which does not grow or move much. Although it still functions the same (as if were normal sized) it allows you to always perfectly aim your shots.

Maps

* Although I really did want to includes screenshots I have yet to find a way to take a shot of myself in 3rd person*

Cs_Assault
Terrorists – Largest camping spot is in the vents, right above the ladder in the middle looking down, this is a fantastic spot as it always lets you see the enemy first before they see you. Another spot is the ledge just above the lower door on the backside as people commonly just rush in and don’t look up. There are no real good sniping opportunities for terrorists.

Counter-Terrorists – You can’t camp here as it is the rescue map but a fairly good sniping spot is just outside of the large entrance. Take out any terrorists that are stupid enough to stay in the middle and gradually move in (staying near the middle of the opening) until you can see the back railing on the other side. Take out any terrorists on that railing. Quickly move back and go all the way to the other side and open the upper door. Slowly peek in and take out any terrorists watching the vents but not in them. Gradually move further towards the door and look to take out any terrorists in the main area on the base level as well as those near the hostie room. When all clear upstairs and near the entrances you can call in the rest of the team to mop up.

De_dust
Terrorists – no camping or sniping for you, as if you do not rush you will lose. You could possible snipe the underpass in the event cts rush.

Counter-Terrorists – Again little camping, if you want you can snipe the underpass, or you should just rush towards “A” as that is the primary T destination. If you have taken “A” and the ts have retreated then feel free to camp the middle of the tunnels but try and stay out of a possible firing lane and wait for the terrorists to rush.

De_tides
Terrorists – no major camping spots again, this is another rush or lose map

Counter-Terrorists – This map has my personal favourite and most fun camping spots in the game. The main spot would be camping the upper ledge just above the lower door at ct spawn. To get there you have to jump on the rails near the upper left entrance, jump across to on top of the vending car, jump to the ledge on the side of the spawn, jump into the closest tree branch (note that not all are solid), jump from it to the other solid tree branch, and finally climb up the branch until you can jump on the ledge beside the little balcony. From here you can easily cover the bombsite, the lower door, and both upper doors since you shape is obscured by the tree. Don’t forget the silencer as this is the key to making the enemy confused. If you manage to kill the entire terrorist team one round I would avoid the spot for another 2 or 3 rounds. I have a demo attached that demonstrates how to get up there.

Terrorists - You have a choice of camping spots: camping the house and snipe down long hall (my favourite), you can snipe the apartments, or you can get on top of the roof of the apartments and wait for the cts to come. This is the one map I do recommend getting a deagle with the scout as the cts often storm the house. On key note is that if you can retreat down the long hall if you are pinned up in the house do so and take up a new position.

Cts- No real chances for you to camp since you ahave the initiative. One sniping oppertunity does exist in trying to counter the terrorist sniper across long hall. I've had many a great battle across here. Just make sure you are not first to rush into the market as there maybe be rushing terrrorists in the vicinity.

Since this is taking longer than I thought I will add the maps in one by one.

nice guide

ive been intending to post all the good camping spot i know for ages now but i'm too lazy

i might add some if i ever get round to it

to play in 3rd person turn on sv_cheats and type thirdperson in the console. Its a bit glitchy though. The player model looks like this

[img=http://img327.imageshack.us/img327/561/awpindia00005sp.th.jpg] (http://img327.imageshack.us/my.php?image=awpindia00005sp.jpg)

You dont have any control over the camera either but i assume theres some console commands that'll move it.

I'll try and find them out and write a script that'll use the mouse to move the camera.

Just to point out, using the smallest crosshairs doesnt stop them moving it just make the movement less perceptible.

To stop them moving completely set cl_dynamiccrosshairs to zero.

I tried it once but i found it really hard to control the recoil when spraying.

This will let take pics of yourself in 3rd person.

Ceate a cfg file called whatever you want and put the blue text in it.

Make sure your config.cfg file is read only so this one doesnt overwrite anything.

create a server then exec the file

sv_cheats 1

crosshair 0

c_maxpitch 600
c_minpitch -600
c_maxyaw 600
c_minyaw -600

cam_idealyaw 0

alias pov "3rd"

alias "3rd" "thirdperson; alias pov 1st"

alias "1st" "firstperson; alias pov 3rd"

bind "p" "pov"

bind "MOUSE2" "+cammousemove"

bind "MOUSE3" "-cammousemove"

bind "mwheeldown" "incrementvar cam_idealdist 64 1000 7"

bind "mwheelup" "cam_idealdist 64"

pressing p will take you in and out of 3rd person

mousewheel down zooms out and mousewheel up resets

pressing mouse2 will give the mouse control of the camera

mouse3 puts it back to controling movement

everythings rather buggy in 3rd person so you sometimes have to press the buttons several times.I tried to make it stay on mouse camera while you hold mouse2 and stop when you release it but for some reason it didnt work

Yep the script works and I used it to create a demo for de_tides

Terrorists- Again terrorists do not get to camp and are forced to rush, you could try to snipe the long hall but the cunter-terroists have superior positioning and cover.

Counter-Terrorists - Another on of my favourite maps to camp on. I use one of three main strategies:
1. I go on top of the bunker and jump into the tree (I like nature), from there you have a perfect shot into the terrorists entrance way and can get anyone that tries to sneak through. The only thing you can't stop is a full on rush but you can still take a couple out here.
2. In the pistol round, and other rounds when I am short cash, I like to camp the vent at ct spawn. I just go up the ladder and sit just at the top so I can see the entrance to the spawn coming from the long hall. If your team wins without you needing to do anything then you will be able to purchase a better weapon next round. If the terrorists do come through, you can pick them off as they come into spawn (due to the angle you have good chance for several headshots). If one comes in from the far (bunker side) you can quickly drop down kill him and hopefully defuse before his reinforcements arrive. Make sure if you are one of the first into the vent that you let back up and let the other people through who wish to camp above the long hall (which I don't find very successful).
3. The last camping spot for tides is to take a scout and position yourself at the top of the stairs at the back of the long hall. This allows you a clear vantage point into the long hall entrance, and enables you to snipe out any terrorists sneaking behind cover. The large range also makes you hard to hit, and the fact that you are higher prevents them from headshotting you. If you do not like the fact that you can not see the heads of terrorists as they enter you can choose to move down a couple steps, however this also gives them the possibility of headshotting you as well. Even rushing terrorists will have to take a bit of time before they get to you and you can usually get 2 or 3 shots in before they get near you. Don't forget that if they are rushing with smoke just look for the muzzle flashes of their ak47s and fire their. Also if they do not seem to be rushing you should keep an eye on the radar to see what is happening at bunker and make sure you aren't flanked. If you lose bunker just move into the upper hallway and scope in so that your crosshairs are centred on the middle (about head level) of the metal door, should anyone open the door feel free to fire.

I would say on tides and your are on T's if you do not have the bomb you can scout, If you are scouting A you have a perfect shot to get the cts coming to A and it works as a good spot to watch the bomb since they do not bother to come check there instead just going for the defuse and you can then sneak up pop them once in the head and creep back and wait for your next victim.

And on Prodigy while you may get a T team that actually does work together it does pay off to either scout from the room with the generators(through the window) or from behind the barrels near long hall. I am a fan of both spots the one in through the window is more risky due to being on the front lines but you can do major damage or pick off the 1 or 2 people who are gaurding bunker to clear the invasion for the rest of the team
