After playing FH for the first time, I probably played less than 20 rounds of good old vanilla 1942. Waiting for patches was a bit maddening at times, but the content was amazing, skins, sounds, gameplay tweaks....awesome.

the military history part of me really appreciates the old themed stuff.

look how sweet they have modelled the boys anti tank rifle, comparing to the real deal i snapped last year, with a $6k price tag on it. they have done a great job and i think its going to be eye candy overload with new engine and new video cards.

what they are showing are individual building renders.

there are whole cities of stalingrad, berlin, a million more i cant spell. everything you see are just new renders of individual buildings with stuff around it for presentation sake.

the first release is specifically centered in afrika, so there might not be as much urban combat, but subsequent patches will unfold the full fh2 library of WWII engagements all over the world. afrika, europe and the pacific.

I am really excited to play this one. :mghyper: Everytime I think about how long it is taking I remind myself that the best things come to those who wait. I think the naval combat is a blast, so those Pacific maps are going to be my favorites.

Favorite BF mod of all time, well it and EOD are tied... Anyways, the canadians are in now, BF42, and they won't make it into FH2 for a long time, so don't hold your breath. Also, no release date will be given until about a week prior to release.

This is a mod for BF2, it isn't out yet. They do have a release for BF1942 tho.

If I remember correctly, there were three different downloads for BF42, totaling about 2.5 Gig.

Two were for the mod itself, and one was just for the maps.

Can't wait for FH2! The 1942 mod never failed to impress me. It TOTALLY transformed 1942 and I can only imagine what they will be able to do with BF2 version. The skins are top notch and they strive for historical accuracy etc.

Who knows when it will be released, but I'm sure the wait will be worth it...

ahem...

fh2 will be out when its out. no one gripes about bringing wine to its proper age. when it does come out, it will love you long time. so no worries.

last i looked, fh is the only bf42 mod still fielding 50 person servers ( i havent looked in over a month), but at that time, no more than 3 people playing any of the other mods.

it might be late (who knows it might not), but it will be worth it.

I agree with Papasan, there is a significant fan base for WWII games/mods. I think these guys could take another 6 months and we (the loyalists) will still be waiting with baited breath. I would wait for another year if I thought it would produce the best possible outcome...go Hawker Hurricane.

i know the 1st FH had like over 200 different types of weapons it was sw33t.

yeah when i said that i was thinking of the b17 and german heinkels. an experienced gunner can do a number on attacking fighters. tons of times i have either downed them or chased them off with steady stream from rear gun or top ball turret. even when gunners are worthless, is still a fun ride.

i helped hijack by asking the question, sorry. as a matter of fact im perpertrating a hijacking now by discussing hijacking and not fh2....

so, btw, band of brothers every night this week, 7 - 10 cst on history channel.....this will get you lubed up for fh2. i cant wait for my first garand clip ejection sound out of fh2. i guess the brits didnt use garands in the desert....oh well, they will come.

a note on these update pics-

i thought they were a bit grainy and figured that whatever compression has happenned didnt do them justice.

if you click on the pic to enlarge it. then put your cursor on the pic and then click on the enlarge box that pops up in the bottom right hand corner, that picture (which is bigger than my monitor) is the proper resolution and shows off the textures and models best. i just figured that out yesterday.

edit- an example is i enlarged the picture of the DAK soldier loadout with all of the individual items next to the guy. if you look at the shovel in this view, you can see the rust/wear on the metal. is pretty damn cool.

I was playing POE2 on the Carpathian Mtns map and couldn't help but wonder what it would be like to play FH in that environment. Dunno the name of the POE2 snowy map with the island flag, but that would be a hoot on FH2 as well. The POE2 environs are so big and detailed, I think it bodes well for what we can expect in FH2. Trouble is, first FH release is desert maps and it might be many months before ETO maps are released...:wallbash:

When I was on a mod team with former members of FH with friendships with current FH developers last time I checked they really didn’t have a clue when it would come out. For sure it will be a few more months. Hopefully by Christmas but maybe not even by then. Unless they were holding out on us then.

an observation

when i got on last weekend there were 5 large servers that were half full or more and another half dozen with up to 10 people in them, for fh. that is more than for most mods out now. i was shocked. i am thinking that since there is a dedicated group still playing fh .7, they can take their sweet time with the release.

at any rate, i wish they would do something. i want some wwii action.

btw, fh still rocks. all graphics maxxed out, is still great gaming.

after really studying the pictures, i can see why this would take so long to produce...everything is new content. all new buildings, elaborate props...the hangars with sections missing. bunker and trench systems to boot. all the characters are from scratch as well as vehicles. there isnt ANY old material.

all of the other mods borrow alot that was already created. i will cut them some slack. this is going to rock when its released.

the relationship between long time of release and how good the mod will be is interesting. this will be the best mod for bf2 when released but is the most frustrating in the meantime.

i will continue to wait. again, the '42 version is still kicking ass and is awesome. on any given day, there are at least 3-5 servers over half full and on weekends there are about 5-6 totally full servers with another 15 partially full. that is more action than most of the current bf2 mods. bf'42 is a 5 year old game now. i play fh as much as all the current mods. let me know if any of guys want to kill sometime.

While the WWII era FPS is often maligned, its my absolute favorite. I'm a fan and student of the history. Years ago I ventured online for the first time to play MOH. I was getting killed by a luger wielding, trench coat wearing Nazi bunny hopping all over. Needless to say, I was not a fan.
This dude that sat in the cube across from me at work pointed me to '42. I resisted his pestering for a couple weeks and gritted it out on MOH. Finally bought 42 and was hooked. How could it get any better? I wondered...

WAP! FH42 smacked me accross the face and said "Like THIS muthaf$#@". Or should I say, "like ZIS!".

BF2 comes along, looks great on my freshly built rig - I get sucked into the stats and left FH and all its glory in the dust. Played some great mods for BF2, no slaps, just pokes. Har Har :hehehe:.


I'm just waitin.... I'll wager FH2 will rock. Though I've never played the frontlines mod, I've no reason to beleive that it won't be good if not better than FH. They're both 'looking' pretty darn sharp.


In the meantime, I'll give the latest PR a whirl. I'll drive an Abrams, or fly an F-16, trudge thru the forest decked out in my ghillie suit.

But what I'll really be thinking about is firing up a Corsair on the deck of a carrier near Iwo, off to strafe some ground targets or scrap with a Zero, if they even DARE to takeoff... Maybe duke it out with the Japanese naval forces around Midway. Go toe-to-toe with the germans in the snow covered Ardennes, on a push map no less?!

(psssst, Pacific and European theaters my be waaaay off in the horizion, if ever... Just look when this thread was started - 5/7/06! and that was to 'catch up'!... Oh, right right right. Dont want to get my hopes up...)

Instead, I guess defending a desert outpost from the onslaught of British forces with my panzerfaust and trusty K98, while my teammates wait for the 109 to spawn isnt such a bad way to spend a couple hours.

Im really looking forward to this mod. Never played vanilla BF1942 after FH was released. I played some BFG recently, it was OK - a little rough. But it was nice to visit the WWII era again. I just hope FH2 releases other theaters soon. Desert is fun, but their ETO and PTO maps were better imho. Flying the Corsair around Iwo was a hoot! That thing sounded mean! I hope they have some Naval battles in future releases - a glaring ommission in VBF2 imho. The FH Battle of Britian map was superb!

I use uTorrent ( http://www.utorrent.com/ ). DL it, install it. It should work fine without you have to set up anything, unless you want to. Once installed:
1. click the torrent link for FH2
2. a pop up DL box should come up (at least in Fx), choose to open with uTorrent
3. uTorrent will open, save file and let DL
4. When done, right click the torrent in uTorrent and choose "open folder containing"
5. you can unzip it there or drag it to your desktop and leave it there so you know where it is.

You are getting it from 16 people, and distributing what you have DL'ed thus far to 70 people. Right click the torrent, choose advanced, and look for upload and download speed. set the upload to around 30k, and the download to unlimited.

Screen shot is down by hitting print screen. Then bring up MS Paint and hit ctrl+v (paste). Save as jpg, and then post :)
