I don't know much about computers besides how to turn them on/off... do homework and play games so I'm going to need some help..

Desktop items keep getting added, favorites getting added, pop-ups coming up, homepage being set to something else.. and all are leading to me buying some anti-spyware, virusus.. ect...

Is this bad for my computer or just going to piss me off till I give in or delete this crap...

Mcafee detects some new Malware stuff but can't delete, clean, or quarentine..

my homepage keeps going to:http://www.perfectedsecurity.com/

and I get a lot of this: http://malwarewipe.com/?rid=247

Someone HELP me please

People typically use AdAware, Spybot, or some other sort of spyware removal program. Going to list some sites that you could take a look at.

http://www.pestpatrol.com/
DoD has a contract with them for their software free to all DoD employees. There are other options should you want to go for a free product.

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx
Windows Defender from Microsoft. Have not used it, so not sure if it would pick it up or not. Free.

http://www.pestpatrol.com/spywarecenter/pest.aspx?id=453097764
Lists files and registry entries should you want to manually remove them.

Edit:

AdAware

http://www.safer-networking.org/
Spybot

adware wont usually delete something that deep completely. Google the name of the popups that you keep getting and you should get in-depth instructions on how to remove them.

I would say get AVG free windows editions and Lavasoft Adware. this are all free software. and Stop using Internet Explore and get FireFox. also do the Microsoft update.

honestly by the sound of things, it will take you an enormous amount of time and effort to actually clean your system of the infection (if that's even possible at this late stage).

I second the opinion to format your hard drive and reinstall the operating system and all of your programs from scratch.

if you bought your computer from a retailer, you should have a system restore(?) disk/CD or a CD with an operating system (probably Windows XP) lying around, as well as another cd with applications and drivers/utilities. Find these, as well as your manual, and follow the instructions on how to format and reinstall from scratch. If there are no instructions, let us know and hopefully someone will walk you through the process in an easy to read manner.

I've used 7 programs and it's still here.. I'd reather not re-do my whole computer unless I have to..

How do I get to that thing that lets me set my computer back a few days?
and wheres the Microsoft updates

I've had some pretty bad expierences with that stuff too. You might (if you haven't tried already) try and run the adaware and spybot programs in safe mode and see if it can delete them that way. Or try and use hijack this. I don't know if anyone here could look at your hijack this log and tell you what to delete, but I've found some useful hijack this forums and most people are willing to give u a hand. That program has worked well for me!

i fix this stuff for my family and friends all the time, and this will take some estensive registry editing, which is risky at best. So like i said above, google the name of what the common theme of t he popups are, and get exact directions from a tech site, or reformat. aware isnt going to do this for you in this case because often times this kind of adware infection actually installs itself as new .dll's in the win32 folder. If you find and delete the programs they will re-install either immediately, or on restart

Yeah what Prowler said.

Regedit is a powerful tool, but very dangerous if used incorrectly.

I just wanted to through something in there if you decide to reinstall everything. If your Windows XP disc does not have SP2 on it make sure you install an anti-virus first thing when you get windows installed, if your dont and you download sp2 you'll probably get trojans and worms galore

Try doing a rollback first. Think about when you had the problem first. Roll back the computer and then run all the adware, spyware removers you got afterward. You might be able to to eaxtract it if it is rolled back to an earlier stage of the infection.

Sounds like someone was looking at porn sites... :hehehe:

I'm sure someone here will likely solve your problem, but if not, you might check with this group of PC whizbangs that frequent my site.

Alright I'm clean.. thanks everyone for any recomandations and advise..

None of the programs worked, or atleast the few I used..

At the end system restore was the easiest solution.. I'm having a little problem with Mcafee but whatever junk I just has is gone

It can be a massive pain in the arse to get rid of some very stubborn adware programs. If you're not experienced with computer you did the right thing by reformatting... The next best thing to do now that your clean again is...

STOP LOOKING AT PORN!!!!

Not trying to jinx you, but are you still clean? Some of the nasty programs will make a home in your system restore files..

You can always try to reboot your computer into safe mode and then run an Anti-Virus. That way it has a better chance of getting rid of it!
