On FF-On server everyone's killin' everyone and suddenly these heads start popping out of the ground and white smoke is appearing.

We don't know who's doing it, but it's mad. Someone said that it happens after the hacker has died and follows their trail.

I've got about 3 demo's and a screenshot. I'll try to upload them.

I also recorded a demo and sent it to the owners as well along with some screenshots.

Mother Goose also got a demo.

In the demo he recorded, it showed Jay running around, trailing smoke and flashes of light. He stops and human skulls pour out of him. Everybody said, "It's Jay!" and he got kicked- but it must not have been him because then it started happening to somebody else.

Very, very very bizarre. A couple rounds before there were like....I don't know...bubbles coming out of the ground and stuff.

I suppose I'd rather be confused by that crap then irritated by an aimbot, if somebody HAS to hack.

Is that the word "TERROR" over and over?

We quit while it was still on Havana. Actually, I had already quit and watched this whole strange drama unfold from over Mother Goose's shoulder.

I didn't know that you could hack so strangely. I feel like a hippie from the 60's...."Whoooooa, man....look at all the WORDS, dude...."

Whoa. That is some trippy shiat. Too bad I wasn't around for it. I'm not even sure someone could hack to that degree client-side. It almost seems as if it would be server-side, but I doubt it. Could be some kind of error, or a very prodigious hacker.

My favorite moment of the evening- Eject's southern drawl saying, "I don't even wanna play the game anymore" as his character hops up and down in a huge mound of skulls like a kid in some freaky McDonald's playplace.

It had to of been a server side issue for everyone to see it. Also it had graphics which doesn't just happen. I suspect it was a form of malice from someone kicked in the past. Just a thought.

Wir's my back-up?

It seemed like it was following me too, but I've never seen it on any other server but this one and I play on a different server quite a lot. :silly:

What you all experienced is a new type of server exploit that floods other half-life textures into the map and eventually crashes the server. Hopefully Valve will put out a fix in an upcoming patch (or sooner).

It happened again last night. If you see Vrylynn, be sure to thank him. He was able to figure out who was causing it last night and and permabanned him.

Saw the same exploit at another server. No sooner had the admin ban one guy another guy showed up with the same hack.

Here's a screenshot:

Hacks I can somewhat understand. The said person wants to be unbeatable, have a godlike score and such.

But this bs just boggles the hell outa me. What's the point of crashing servers if you're not getting anything out of it aside, haha, crashed your server!

Argg, guess I'll never understand some people........

What kind of hack is it? I saw the same shit on another server. I had been playing there for about an hour, then out of the sky came yellow rings, sparks, smoke, skulls, purple and black and laser trails comming off three or four players. It was indeed the weirdest shit. :roflololol:

You guys can thank Vryllyn again.

He pointed us to a plugin that's supposed to "patch" the server against this exploit. I've loaded it onto the FF and Public servers. Let me know how it works.

If if fails, you guys know who to blame...

GroovyDude

Well, it didn't work, but Valve has released a new update and I'm updating FF-On server. Let's see if it correct the vulnerability.

That is good. I dont like the servers going down. Are all you saying that that can only happen server side. If that cant happen client side then that meens it was either an admin or a server rep from your server provider. I dont think it was the admins, and I dont think server provider employees spend there free time crashing there costomers servers. I think that that can be done from client side.

GroovyDude
03-24-2005, 07:31 AM
It's client side. They are simply exploiting the server code and flooding the game with other Half-Life 2 textures.

ejectpete
03-24-2005, 11:51 AM
What I want to know is, if it is client side, can it be done from a players machine without them knowing about it? :dunno: The reason I'm asking is because if a hacker is good we will all be vulnerable(client and server). I hate hackers. They are nothing more than individuals that have nothing more to do than screw with people. Oh well, thats why my associates degree is in CNS and my bachelors will be in either Data security or Internet security. Oh yea, when you Admins find out wether or not a client does it through their machine or if they are using someone elses machine please let me know. If someone is doing it through Steam, then Steam needs to look into the issue. If someone is using somebodies machine then how would we fix that problem? (firewalls and spyware and microsoft updates are on my machine but I have still had some problems with intrusion of my OS and I have reformatted a few times and I'm tired of it more in the form of virus(trojan once and a worm once) If someone is hacking server side I know you guys will figure it out.

hackers are some what important to some companies...say if one of them codes a virus...and if they're caught what do you think happens to them...jail time or a fine, nope a software company such as Symantec or Microsoft will hire these people. Don't think valve is looking for the guy who found this server side exploit? hmmm. Crazy world we live in...yes indeed.

Yea I know that hackers are the best defense against hackers. Just like the guy who forged checks in the movie "Catch me if You Can" ended up with a killer job with the FBI. It would be just like Valve or Steam not to do anything about it. Oh well, all I want it a nice litle job in the IT field in 8 months when I get my degree. Wish me luck! Much luv to gamers all over specially WIH.
