View Full Version : Area 51. (Not the craptastic arcade game)
Has anyone heard about this game? Is anyone as excited as I am about it? Let's find out. For some odd reason the game's development has eluded me until now, but I just recently discovered it a few hours ago and nearly soiled myself. Some of you may remember the cheesy shooter you couldn't figure out why ever had a place in an arcade, but please, I assure you, those notions must be cast aside. I'm not sure if this is being developed by the same company or developers themselves, but the game looks amazing.
It's finally a true FPS game, and the single-player mode from what I've read has a solid story. I mean, where can a game go wrong that involves the Illuminati!? It speaks of the supposed Roswell Crash of 1947 amongst other things, so the story seems compelling enough for me. Indeed, I'm a sucker for conspiracy theories and I love when developers in any medium synthesize such things into something creative. Anyway ..
If anyone is curious about the game you can find a wealth of information at these sites:
www.area51-game.com -- Official site. You can read the story here, characters, etc., but they don't have any worthwhile screenshots or trailers.
http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/area51/media.html -- You can find all of the trailers here, gameplay video, and interviews. David Duchovny and Marilyn Manson have voice-roles in this game!

Looks interesting and seems priced affordably, will have to look into it more. From what I read, reminds me of Resident Evil.
I played the demo for this game. Very fun. It has some interesting weapons along with the staple's of any FPS game(shotgun, assualt rifle, sniper rifle). I definitely give this one a rental.

Heheh, I was thinking about Duke Nuke'em Forever as well when I was reading this post. I remember when the early screenshots, and being all excited about that Hummer they had pictured... ahhh, memories. I'm bitter, now, though... the games I really would've liked to have seen a sequel to were the Fallout and System Shock series. I guess Fallout 3 was in the early stages when Black Isle Studios died... can always hope someone will buy the rights from Interplay. *sniff*

The company behind Morrowind bought the rights for Fallout 3. :yaya:

Holy crap, I didn't hear about that!! Just looked into it... I get the feeling it's in good hands. Aside from Bethesda doing a good job on Morrowind, it seems they're fans of the series. This is now my #1 most anticipated game

If I remember correctly, it has a 3rd or 4th Quarter release of this year. Rumor has it that it was 70% completed when Bethesda took it over.
Have no fear everyone, this game is primarily for the PC and is outfitted for some insane multiplayer. You'll have the typical deathmatch mode, team modes, and even a BF42 type mode where you capture certain points of the base for periods of times. I can't stand FPS games with a controller either, so rest assured I'm buying it for the PC.
They're making a game revolving around the Cthulhu mythos!? Where the hell have I been!? Oh man. Lovecraft is probably turning over in his grave (If he has one).

I announced back in 1995 that I would never buy another game from Bethesda software again. Stupid ass buggy Daggerfall. This game crashed on the button every 2 hours. After 6 months Bethesda came out and said "we cant fix it." Well screw you then bethesda. Now Im not so sure, I heard morrowind and a lot of their games have been good lately. Maybe they fired and rehired.

I played a damo of Area 51 at gamestop the other day, it seemed pretty fun, but nothing out of the ordinary, just another FPS. I will probably get it anyways, to compliment my Area 51 computer :hump:
