View Full Version : WiH Benefit Tournament Idea - To Support the Server

Greetings again all,

I was sitting here at work thinking how it would be great if there was a way to generate some revenue to help out the greatest bf2 server on the planet.

Breaking out excel, I started hammering down some numbers and it looks like a tournament would be a nice way to help supplement the WiH operating costs.

This is how I see it could work.

Using the new BattleArena server a monthly tourney could be setup.
The tourney could involve 12, 16,24 or 32 players in all (lower numbers would be prefereable, at least at first - hopefully participation increases monthly).

the tourney costs 5, 10 or 20 dollars (U.S.) to enter (via paypal). Play 3 rounds of 4 maps (a poll to decide the maps) and the winning side wins back their entry fee plus 50%.

it's not huge winnings, but this is more about the fun and getting some money for the server.

so basically if you enter for 10 bucks and win, you get 15 bucks back (a profit of 5 whole dollars!)

The real point is that a 32 man tourney with a $10 entry fee would generate $80 for the WiH servers. Not a lot, I'll agree, but it's a bit of a supplement to help support the philantropy.

The higher the entry fee, the higher the payout to the winners and the server.

As you can see, the only real advantage of higher player numbers is the server take, the winner take is static. But this is all about helping the server and having fun - the winnings are just an incentive whose purpose is to "make things more interesting" ;)

I know this is probably an old idea, but if just 12 of us (2 squads) agree to play a tournament with only $5 each on the table, then we can make the server $15 and 6 of us will come away $2.50 richer!

of course we need you, mighty owners, to handle the transactions and there must be at least 12 of us willing to do this.

would you guys be willing to pay up to $10 or maybe $20 to increase the payouts to the server and winners?

Yes?

WHAT SAY YOU!?

GREAT idea, i like the idea of 16 player server maps, this way we can get 8 man teams together. Maybe 24 player server, so 12 verse 12. thus 2 squads each team. With small number of players per team it would be easier to keep track of team mates and it would be easier to get 12 people rather than 32 people for a 64 player server. This would be a straight-forward bracket type of tourny rite? I would pay 10 bucks

Also def cant let EA know WiH is making money off of their game with a License, so best not to mention this outside of WiH forums

A matter of fact I cut the talk off immediatelty...This would have to be organized through email or through a forum that can't be related to WiH...Which begs the question, what are the rules that EA stipulates when it comes to stuff like this? Server companies are aloud to profit from BF2 but those paying for the servers cannot?

You guys can talk all you want. There's nothing illegal with talking about this. Last time I looked, this is a private discussion forum paid for by the owners . EA can't regulate what we can and can't discuss. Unless the owners take action that would contradict the EULA, EA can't touch us.

this is awesome!

Now, because the financial thing is in the hands of the owners let's just start by getting a roster of who's in and try to get our (minimum) 12 participants.

We must of course let the owners decide if this is indeed a go and when it will occur.

I'll update the original post with the current roster as I see posts.

We'll handle the details (like maps and team distribution) once we first have the (minimum) 12 participants.

Just reply and let me know if you are in

I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking that by allowing this discussion to continue, the owners are approving this concept. They are just saying that they're not going to make you stop talking about it.

understood admin.

my current intentions are merely to see if there is a realistic participation level.

Just fun to muse, you know. :)

I'd like to participate too, but I don't have a paypal account. I don't have a credit card. So unless someone was willing to put up money for me to play, I wouldn't be able to participate.

ah yes Jimmy, money always complicates things: one of the many reasons to hate it.
It is the unfortunate truth that this tournament, while of course intended to be fun, is ultimately about getting some cash to the server.

Why even have a tourney then? we can just donate, of course - and some do. But a little incentive always helps.

Whether this happens or not is fully in the hands of the owners, but even if it never happens it still seems an awesome idea - and there is manifestly at least some support for this kind of benefit tournament.

If this tournament actually comes to pass, I have a feeling someone will put up the entry fee for you...especially since they would probably keep "your" share of the potential winnings :yaya:

WHAT????? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t claim to speak in fluent Canadian dialect, whatever that may be, but what I think Canadian is saying is that he would like to participate but cannot because his parents control his income flow or better yet, they are the source of his income :flipoff:

I would participate in such an event, and for the record, I'd win!!!! :P

My clan would probably be available to participate in an 8v8 tourney. We're kind of inactive atm but we still gather for skirmishing and friendly stuff like this.

12v12 or larger and you're going to have serious problems with scheduling/participation imo.

You might also consider a 5v5 Infantry only (TWL rules'ish) as those are super action packed matches.

I would love to be in. subarbuzz this is a great idea

Money is not the problem, I have really nice parents, so if I just give them the mony in cash, my mom can pay with her paypal account. I even think my dad would pay it or more bc he loves this sort of projects. He studied a sort of manegement thing MBA? :dunno: wathever.

Time is the problem...I live in Europe GMT+1 time zone, so it would be nice for me to participate when it is midday for you guys so I play in the evening my time. or a saterday night so I can play sunday morning.

look in the future: over 2 years, the War is Hell gaming community has 20 servers up and running. we have 10.000 memebers. all sorts of clans and we are THE PLACE TO BE if you want to play an tournament. just pay youre 10 bucks and you got 1 admin to watch if both teams are playing fair. you got 1 our to play. and who wins gets no price :hehehe: 24 ours a day ppl are competing against each other. we run all kinds of games. and the owners, don't have to pay anymore. they are profeting from this community

is their a way to not pay but be able to play in the games for the missfortunent people here just one or two poeple should not hurt the income of it eh plus not sure about the donations flow that is their main income anyways.
