I have a regular printer Epson R300. It is currently connected to my computer. I would like to make it available to other machines on my network. Is it possible? Is there a way to make this printer a networked printer? Do I need to buy a print server? Is what I'm looking to do even feasible? What did I have for lunch? Is this too many questions in 1 post?

Thanks!

It is quite possible and will cost you nada.

1. Open up printers and faxes in control panel.
2. Right click and enter properties of printer to be shared
3. Click shared tab, then click share this printer and give it a name
4. If you are planning to use it on comps with different OS's hit the additional drvers button and select as needed
5. Install the printer drivers (via the cd that came with it) on the other computers. Now I believe when you install the drivers on the other computer it may automatically detect it is networked, or you may have to select it manually.

And that should work, its the same thing I did when i hooked up my Epson stylus CX4600 on my home network and it works fine. Also if you are using a wireless netowrk or have the printer connected to a computer (which in turn is connected to the network) expect some longer delays when printing from further away.

yeah, but that will lag his system out if he is gaming big time, un less it is hooked up to a non gaming pc. I run two Pc's side by side, and I use one for all that stuff, I personally would go with a print server.

Edit: and you had sushi for lunch... WITH NOODLES and BUTTER :yuck: :D

Is it possible to connect my USB printer up to some sort of networked device that'll do the work instead of my computer? That way the computer can be off and the other machines can still access the printer.

Also, for lunch, I had Mi Tom Cua Xa Xiu, a Vietnamese noodle bowl that includes egg noodle in broth with shrimps, crabs, and BBQ pork slices. YUMMY!!!

I used to network it through my computer, but when the woman would print, I would go slideshow! THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO ME! :D SO....I bought a netgear print server (PS121). It is a wired print server for USB printers. It works well, but it takes a LONG time to print big stuff (pictures) b/c it doesn't have the memory to store it in the server.

On a side note....I am interested to see what happens if I hook up my external hard drive to it :D OH, I didn't install ANY of the crap software that came with it, if you know a little about networking you don't need that software sitting on your computer doing its thing....takes up precious cpu cycles....and its crap!

That LinkSys wireless print server looks like it'll be perfect for what I'm looking to do.

Thanks fellas for the advice and tip!
