I noticed that alot too, Its really annoying when you dont have a commander UAVing, scanning and spotting for your team when thats their primary job. Another thing is that since the new patch, Commanders dont get points for regular kills yet they keep on going into the fray.

Occasionally using vehicles is necissary. if you only have 4 players on a team, the commander has to fight.

I just don't get people who command and also fight...We all know that commander score is determined from the final score of his teammates...With that in mind, a commander would want his teammates to get the most amount of points possible. If the commander kills someone with a gun, that is one less kill someone on his team can get, therefore decreasing his final score...When I command, I use artillery only when neccessary for the simple reason I don't want to diminish the ticket number count of my enemies so that I give my teammates the chance to earn more points...Obvisouly in a close round, my strategy changes but ultimately that is my strategy

yeah, when a server is just starting to fill up, that is the only time i can see how a fighting commander is helpful. yesterday, nevets was commanding and capping flags and was a big help.

Hey guys
I think all commander should do is defend main base and keep team inform on any activity that goes around the main base or by new flag.
I hate when they go into chopper or plane i just hate it so much.... :mp5:

I agree AMD, a commander piloting a jet or heli is the absolute worst.
At least in an APC or tank the commander can stop for a second to setup a UAV or scan, but in a jet his attention is obviously fully occupied.
The only exception is a commander as a passenger in a transport heli.
Example: on Mastuur City I was piloting the MEC transport chopper - just waiting for the american gas station to go down so I could ram the BH and be done with it. But I noticed that the commander was in my chopper with me.
He asked me to stay airborne until the american gas station was taken. Since I was a squad leader I could tell he was doing a very good job - calling out troops, suggestions, answering UAVs.
I think he was just happy to be safe and sound up above the action. As you know, once the opposing team gets the gas stations there aren't too many safe havens for the commander on that map once the stations go down (maybe that little group of houses behind hill).
So I think only as a passenger in a transport Heli is the best place for an active commander in a vehicle.

A commander that is trying to get kills Sucks!!! But I have had the need to blow up enemy UAV and Dish, also I have taken many flags because the squads suck, sometimes. YEs defend your base if you need too, but if you can, you can help take a flag or blow up assets. Or take a enemy tank or APC   :hehehe: :hehehe: :hehehe:
Do you think that hurts a team????   :flipoff:

but if you can, you can help take a flag or blow up assets.
In this case I would disagree... While as a commander, you should stay hidden, and while you can use your weapon to defend yourself or the area you are in, going out to specifically destroy assets or take a flag is a bad idea because your not focusing on your commanding spotting out enemies, scanning etc...
However when the server is starting, your team will need as much help as it can get at the start, so at the beginning it might be beneficial to your team to try adn take some flags...

i totaly agree with *******...i dont see how you can drive, fly, while you run scanning uav and dropping supplies and arty when and where it is needed!
I will agree, but the only time I have seen a commander in a vehicle that made sense, was he was an engineer and fixing his assets. He can command and fix at the same time. Unless this was changed.

I often do battle-comand but you'll notice as time goes by the less and less into the combat I am.. and I'm giving the UAV while fighting too.. which after a reset is all you need to do untill the hotel and square are captured
Empty flags are empty flags... take a car and head down while comanding.. I've gotten 10 captures before, even with the ocasional late UAV i'm sure it was worth it.
But when the server's got a real game going with over 20 people per side I ussualy just C4 a flag and hide near it. Don't ussualy fight unless I have to, the main base can't be lost is important

when I'm commanding, I'm busy all the time...I dont have time to drive or fight...I just don't get it how ppl can be so stupid to try. commanding isn't just UAV. when com. you can see wat the enemy is up to. you can see a squad trying to get a flag. you need to get your troop son the right spot.

I think there should be system lock or something that commander can't get in the chopper or jets ..so that way it save troops time for not telling commander to get of the plane or chopper and commander will do the job by force..cause some noob just don't understand the point of being commander in the team..
the one who does understand point of being commander..don't try being commander lot in the game because they want to help us as sq. leader..get some points.
Thanks

When assets are blown and main is taken, then I will join in the fight.

That is true but still..even main base is gone you want to keep all sq in order or just tell them what it is need to be done to get back main base..for some reason if you want to resign as commander then tell some one to take your place.. :fechtduell:

The server used to scroll that message, haven't seen it in a while though, and it DOES get annoying when people who can't use a jet or a tank normally ALSO try to be commander while using them. Suddenly 1 player is now as worthless as 2 or more total idiots.
Me, I can do the combat commander bit, it was my slot in my clan in CAL, so I got damned good at it. I can fly a jet and still spot enemy, drop uav's, supplies and arty on request, and keep an eye open for sneaky bastards..and still maintain a good 10:1 KDR in that jet. Same in a chopper as pilot or gunner or in armor. It was a requirement for me to be able to do that, 8v8 CAL matches, every single player HAS to be active in combat and the commander is even more important then in a pub server of 64.
Stopped doing that on pubs a while back though, too many people who can't walk and chew gum at the same time trying to do that, really ruined it for those of us who can and can do it well. It's STILL aggravating as hells to be commander and see total noobs in the aircraft or armor, knowing I could outdo them with my eyes closed..but can't because I'm commander...*shrug*..oh well.

I've driven armor to an area to give it to the first person I see, but not whoring it. If all the commanders assets are blow (usually no team work), and down to last flag(s), I will fight.

Monday morning playing a little bit until I got fusstrated and quit.
Anyways our commander on the MEC sides takes a FAV or whatever it's called and takes off in it by himself does the samething later in the BTR this is a perfect example of why commadners should not be in vehicles
