View Full Version : 5.3 Catalyst for ATI

The ATI Website has the release of version 5.3 CATALYST reference drivers for ATI RADEON accelerators. Word is: "The CATALYST(tm) Software Suite 5.3 introduces OpenGL Version 2.0 support. This version of OpenGL will be in line with the latest GL ARB approved specifications. New to this specification are GLSL, non-power-of-two-textures, separate stencil, multiple render targets, and point sprites."

uhm... considering how i'm on 5.1 and my drivers are still dicked up i'll let my fellow ATI fanboys here on WiHG try it out first. :D

If anyone is using the omega drivers and bothers to download these and try them out, let me know how they compare with eachother.

I got Omegas.. but I'm not sure if i want to go back to official drivers. The last ones made the smoke in CS look like ass, and also caused Warhammer 40k to run like crap.
Basically, :upyours: official drivers.

I dont know but I now get really REALLY choppy game play with the 5.3's so Im going to 5.1's I think or maybe the omegas.

Yeah, just as I thought. You just can't beat the omegas in terms of performance. Can't wait until the next release of them.

Well, I'm not sure if Omega's are faster, per se, but the official ones did cause some problems. With Warhammer, it wasn't really an FPS drop, but more of an unexplainable stuttering.

Yah I had the stuttering as well just not a good way to be playing while stuttering around the map.

I have a Sapphire X800XT PE....Will the omega driver work with it, if so, can someone post a link to where I can get it. thanks! :thumbsup:

ok my ATi 5.3 drivers took a dump. So I went ahead and installed the omega driver and damn you really notice a difference, I don't spike when I play CS:S now, Nice and smooth..thanks for the link filth! :thumbsup:

The new Omega drivers are out for the ATI cards, its based on the 5.2 ATI release and I think he said a 5.3 version will be out in a week or so. I am going try out the 5.2's when I get home so I will report back when I do.

i installed the 5.3 drivers last nite and my cs:s seems to run better and my SWKOTR 2 definitely runs bettter it has not crashed since i installed them and prior to installing them it was crashing on a regular basis

EDIT: Wait a sec.. Monos was talkin about the 5.3's.. I've tried them and they made my CS and DOW run worse.

Phenix, I belive they biffed ur CS too.

I tried the omegas based on the 5.2's and they killed my fps in game so now im trying to figure out which ones I was using before since the ATI ones gave me stuttering problems.

omega 5.1 works well with my card. The Ati 5.3 driver was good when I first installed it, but then it started acting up. At one point my card kept overheating :yuck: I'll wait for the omega 5.3, hopefully it will run smootly.

ATI has released new drivers 5.4. Figured Id let you guys know. I am not going to try them so if someone does let us know.

i have installed them and they work great on CSS although had some difficultly with KTOR 2 certain maps but hey i expect problems with lucas arts software have never had a single product from them that did not have issues, i digress. it seems that lots of people have trouble with the drivers, my pci express card might tolerate them better than the agp or pci cards do.
