Today, I took my ATI x800xl back to Best Buy(my employer) and exchanged the card out for a Nvidia 7800 GT OC card. Does anyone else have one of these? How does the game perform? What are you graphic settings? I haven't gotten to play yet... still tryin to get it all set up. I think I'm gonna face some problems from not removing my ATI drivers and what not before installing the Nvidia, but we'll see in a bit. Let me know, I want to get some ideas of what I can do with this card.

I have the ATI X800XL and it has performed great for me. I can run BF2 on the highest res with no problems. It had problems before the new drivers came out.

I have a 7800 GT and love it, I highly recommend that you have 2 gigs of memory! I run everything on high, and it is very smooth, clean, and crisp!

Gorro, have you ever played with the 7800 and only 1 gig ram? Also, Gorro. When I first installed the Video Card, and started up my computer... I kept getting a 'warning message' saying something like "your video card performance has been reduced due to power failure" or something along those lines. Then I looked through the manual it says I should install some type of 'power' adaptor. You know anything bout that?

Whoa... I just hopped in and played. With the x800xl, I played with Dynamic Light/Shadow on Low. Rest of settings on medium except Texture Filtering/Effects.

I popped in this new card, kept Dynamic Light/Shadow at low, and turned rest of settings to high with 2x AA, and played just as smoothly as the x800xl. Awesome! I like the upgrade!

The power failure warning is because you did not connect the additional power to the back of the card or you did connect it and either have to many other items running in series off the same line. The card is looking for a solid 12v source so a weak PSU or running in series reduces voltage on the line. If you are running multiple components on the same line as your vid card run them parallel that way your 12v sig on the line won't drop as parallel units act as a current divider and series components act as voltage dividers.

It came with a little 6 prong to 2 three prong power adaptor. I hooked up the 6-prong adaptor into the video card, and I only hooked up one of the three prong plugs... it got rid of the 'performance reduction' error. Will it hurt anything to have only one of the two plugs in?

If the card is satisfied then it must be sufficient. You can't hurt it with an inadequate source because the card will clock down as a safety.

Is this your first nVidia ? If so welcome to the light. :D Lol.

BTW, just woundering what kind of fps does it put put for you?

I dunno bout FPS, but I'm putting out a bum-load compared to my ATI, I'm stoked. I beefed my Video settings way up, especially the AA. AA lagged out my ATI x800xl card, but the Nvidia has a little left to spare after settin it to x2. How do I check FPS, I'll let you know.

I'm running
Emachines AMD 3400+
1 Gig Ram
200gig HD(90% free)
X-Fi Sound Card
Nvidia 7800 GT OC

use something like FRAPS or bring down the console (~) and type:

Renderer Commands

renderer.drawHud [0,1] - Turns the Heads Up Display (HUD) on or off.

renderer.drawConsole [0,1] - Turns off access to the in-game console if set to 0.

renderer.drawFps [0,1] - Displays the current frames per second (FPS) and the time in milliseconds between frames.

Is that stuff hard to do, doesn't it get confusing with so many things going on at once? I just don't wanna attempt and accidently screw up my game or something.

All you need to enter is:

renderer.drawFps 1

and your fps will show in small red print in the corner.

Hmmm... sounds easy enough. Wouldn't it be better to run the in-game FPS instead of that FRAPS thing? Running FRAPS will just be another program running, reducing FPS from the game... correct?

first, plug in the PCI-Express power connector for stable performance.

2nd, just use FRAPS, 400kb of memory.... not even 1%cpu cycle.....

3rd, If Im doing 60~^ FPS on
1280x1024everything on high , except shadows=off

with a x800xl, you should be able to crush my card.

For comparison, my rig is

AMD 3000+venice, OC from 1.8ghz to 2.53ghz (FX55 territory :))
2gb ddr400 in dual chnl.
sbaudigy2
x800xl,
enermax 465wpsu
74gbraptor +more hdds

Have you tried OCing your AMD64? ifits a venice it will reach 2.2GHZ easily on stock cooling.

If i was you, I would run a progrma called Driver CLearner, and make sure u kill the old ATI driver remnants,

Yeah, when I first installed the Nvidia, I had problems with the ATI pieces remaining on my computer. I believe I've gotten it all cleared... another interesting thing I love about the GeForce 7800 GT OC though...

When I had the x800xl, I had to restart my computer every single time I played BF2... if I didn't, the game would get tremendous lag... made it not worth playing. Whether I played for 5 mins or 2 hours, once I quit and later rejoined, the game would be drastically slower till I restarted.

Now with the Nvidia, I can hop in anytime, and never face any kind of lag. Plays great... everytime!

renderer.drawFps 1 entered at the ( ~ ) consol is built in to BF2 it isn't Fraps.

I was just curious because I am concidering a new build soon and I wanted to see how much of a difference the 7800gt was from my current set up.

Use the installation disk that came with your card. When installing it first removes old driver remenents like the old ATI driver removal tools used to do.

What's a pretty high FPS, or a good average?

When I run my FPS check, should I go ahead and disable AA x2? Or go ahead and clock it with AA on?

The last time I checked I think I ranged from like the 60s to just over 100 depending on the map and whats going on. I'm wasn't eyeballing it every sec so I figure I'm ~80fps ave. Thats with a 6800 Ultra all on so I would expect a fair improvement on that. Just wondering how much more. :yaya: Need a excuse to go PCIE :D

Yea leave it all on, its real then. Turning things off you normally would enjoy when playing wouldn't be a true reading.
