Whats with publishers now, and their packaging?
Of the four games I've bought in the past year, only one came in a reasonable case. And that was Battlefield 2. Everything else is in them damned paper sleeves with the clear cheap plastic on one side. Oh but get this, Warhammer 40k Dawn of War came with the insert for the back of a CD Jewel case. W T F ? !

I do believe you answered your own question.
Its about the cash.

Well consider this too...
Console games cost about the same as their PC counterpart. And all those console games usually come in a nice pretty DVD case! I think its a conspiracy to get us PC Gamers to convert to console gamers...

Of course I'd probably buy me an X-Box if I had the cash. But I've got carpol tunel and its loads easier to use the keyboard than grasp a controller for 4 - 8 hours a session.

I don't think I'd go there... With the console you need the media every time you play the game. It makes sense to give it a method of storage that protects the media and gives you simple access to store and retrieve. With the PC, you typically load the game once and lose the media.
Personally, I'd prefer to get rid of all that crap and download my games. That way I don't have to trek to the store and pay some distibutor and retail chain for the game. I think Valve was brilliant w/ Steam in this way.

There is just more money in console games, why would a company poor millions of dollars into making a fancy case for a game that won't make half of what their console games will.

Unless your running a CD crack (which is often illegal) you still need the media for your PC.

you can run CD cracks, Image drives, and anything else you want to bypass the write protection. as long as you have an original valid copy of the disk.
