Damn, I wanted to download the first one. :x

That music is all wrong for that tho. A bit surreal.

I didn't realize how the missiles (hellfire?) spiraled so much. Pretty cool looking, but I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end!!!

I thought the Cobra used TOW missiles in real life. I dont think Hellfires wiggle that much.

The second video proves that the chainguns on some choppers are in fact explosive. (*Cough* Blackhawk *Cough*)

wow .. impressive footage ... Makes a little less believable in game to get hit by black hawk fire and walk away.

I love when the chopper was shooting full tracers.

I'm not convinced they use all tracers ever. With a rate of fire that high, it just looks like they are constantly coming out as tracers. Probably 1 every 3-5 rounds is a tracer. I could be wrong, it just didn't make sense.

From one guy I heard that its either 1/4 or 1/10.. if its the latter I dont want to be anywhere near one of those... no wait I dont want to be anywhere near one those no matter what the tracer rate is..

But I cant be sure what the rate is

What's the firing rate on the mini? 6,000 rounds per minute?

I watched the video again, and if you look in the upper right hand corner of the HUD it will say the type of weapon being fired. So, in some shots the HUD said TOW, and in others it said HF (hellfire?). I also noticed it said GUN when it was cannon fire. Perhaps some of those HUD shots were from Apaches when it said HF?

Oh well. Great video anyway, all the buddies like it too. :D

I'm talking about the one chopper that looked like he was shooting lava at the target. I'm pretty sure that was all tracers. And I've heard it is 1/5.

Former Marine sits in cube next to mine. Served in Gulf War part 1, 1991, and his unit used 1 tracer ever 3 rounds in their rifles.

But I'm still not convinced they used full tracers for that helo.

Semper Fi!!! I believe him. I mean...it's not like he was in the Army. :yaya:

Watching the other mini guns fire in the video and then the one that looked like lava, it just seems excessive. It seems a lot more than 4000 RPM if the tracers were 1/3 for that particular chopper.

Maybe you're right, but that video was shot by Dillon Aero, not Iraq footage. I guess they could have put extra tracers in the guns to make the video look spectacular.

Offy, my bad man. I am wrong about the Cobra. FAS.org says that it can carry eight of them. Pretty cool article on the chopper at http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/ah-1.htm

Nice, that was a cool piece to read. I feel better informed now.

Um, I resemble that remark :sniper: ... it was 1 every 3 rounds, and 5 at the most for rifles - pretty much always every 5th round on 50 cal. ammo. IIRC, when the rounds came on the strip, it was every 5 rounds - so you could just load em up. Or, put in tracers every 3 rounds which is useful for single fire and the 3 round burst as well. Ahh the good ol days... the smell of diesel fuel, cordite, b.o and tobacco.....

The 'lava' effect (the impression every round is a tracer) could also be due to the fact that all rounds being fired are armored piercing incendiary rounds. Although api rounds are meant to penetrate armor and then set fire to whatever the round penetrated - im not sure if the incendiary componet has a visible burn/tracer effect. It stands to reason that the the burning agent needs to be contained in the bullet body at least until impact. Why every round, especially on a weapon system with such a high rate-of-fire, would 'need' to be a tracer still stumps me. But honestly, I didn't have much hands-on with api rounds, or any helicopter ordnance...

I'll have to ask Mr. Internet when I get some time.

Don't worry he won't bite, but he does serve knuckle sandwiches.

Incredible, yet sobering when you watch the footage of the chain gun sending those mujāhidīn to Paradise. Teach them to take on an Apache or SuperCobra.

Tell me about it.... :jerkit:

Wishing I was cold, tired, hungry and living in a nice comfy foxhole... Never thought I'd miss a 'cube' like that! :yuck:

But really, I'm observing from this beige cube (kinda reminds me of sand) and reporting enme movements to higher HQ while waiting for the 1200 ammo and geedunk drop...

Woodchuck to Grey Squirrel, come in Grey Squirrel..comm check, over.

Thanks for the videos Brit. If you guys like choppers you'd probably like the movie "Thunder Birds". I think it was made in the early 90's, late 80's with nicolas cage. It's freakin awesome. A pretty good amount of chopper fighting
