Not to be picky but I've heard this more than once and yes, it bugs me...im an airplane buff...
F22 Raptor enters service the beginning of next year. Stealth but has no SVTOL capability - Not in the game
F35 JSF Marine Version SVTOL (Short Vertical Take Off and Landing) - What we have in the game, enters service either 2025 or 2035, can't remember.
"I love my raptor"
"Raptors rule"
"Man, I didn't know raptors can take of vertically!!"
Some of the phrases that drive me nuts!!!

well it bugs me that every calls the Essex "the carrier" it is not a carrier, it is a LHD. I was stationed on LHD 1 the Wasp, but you can do what I do, think to your self "it's a JSF" and stop complaining about it, you'll never change them. :yaya:

Not to offend anyone, but this is a game, and most that play are not military, I am not, I just like FPS games, I guess if we all went and played quake or doom, ya know those that are not military you would be lucky to 16 player servers. Just a thought, looks like a carrier to me, what is the difference anyway, just curious, I thought a carrier carried troops and jets and stuff, looks like thats what the game did. Anyway thats just my 2 cents, sorry we are not professional soldiers, maybe you guys should only play in squads with other military that why we don't bug you guys with are talk, or " sir are incorrect names sir", "this is a game, without this game I am nothing, this game without me is nothing, hoooraaaaa!!! LOL

well for one thing, it seems that LHD's are a whole lot smaller than carriars...

only because u asked.
LHD's are MUCH smaller. They do not carry horizontal take off planes, they currently only carry Harrier Jump jets (VTOL, Vertical Take Off and Landing), there is no catapult or netting system like on carriers. They have helos, hueys mostly, some sea hawks (navy version of Blackhawk), but NO cobras!! That’s the main difference for the flight deck.
The REAL MAIN difference is that LHDs submerge. See in the game that the back of the boat is open and full of water. That’s some what true. The gate on the back of the ship drops down and the ship fills its ballast full of water and submerges. Inside the "Well Deck" are usually 4 LCACs (Giant hovercrafts that carry tanks and hummers). All we ever had on the Wasp were Humvees and Tanks.
the main mission of the LHD is to park MILES off the coast, drop into the water and the LCAC's would take the invasion force, or supplies to the beach sometimes up to 60 or more miles away. They are also used as a mobile launching platform for SEAL teams.
Much more then I wanted to say in this thread, damn you and your curiosity
:D

I always liked the people who would refer to the Cobra as an Apache (Pre-SF at least.)
My all time favorite has to be the one that would confuse the Mi-8 HIP with the Mi-24 Hind. Although that was more in the BFV days. I'd always call people on that one. 'It's NOT a Hind!'
Oh well, ignorance can be bliss.
BTW - I just read something that mentioned that the US Air Force Declared Initial Operating Capability for the F22. So, it's ready to kick ass if we should need it. Well... 12 of them are at least, but they are ready to be deployed. I sleep better at night knowing that they are on our side. Well... Those and Nimitz class carriers and the OHIO class SSBNs. Here is a link to the F22 post..

hopefully we don't need to used em anytime soon and if we do, hopefully it's not used for recon missions because if using F16 for recon is like using a Ferrari to go to a grocery store then using F22 for recon is like...........im speechless....

Thanks guys, I really wasnt trying to be a smart@zz, but it is better than being a dumb@zz i guess, I was just saying that, most probably don't know the difference, me being one, hell I don't know half the time what killed me in BF2, I will see killed by: and weapon, and am like what the hell is that, just about a week ago I was like what the hell is vodnak or whatever its called, But regardless I love the game, I support all our troops men and women, and am glad to live in the good Ol' U>S> of A.
Thanks for the class on the carrier or the see I already forgot what its called, my ignorance :wallbash:

LHD...take notes next time :)
Actually, I think a lot of the people calling the JSF a Raptor are PoE players, where we got both of them as US, and people always confused the two...damned if I know why though. In PoE, the JSF is air to ground, complete with the SVTOL ability, while the Raptor is pure air to air and no SVTOL ability. The planes don't even look alike, so I've never figured out why people get them confused...*shrug*

I was reading somewhere that the first Raptors went into squadron service.

Yeah, but since the military always do what's convinient for them, it wont really *really* go into service probably until next year
cuz why would anyone launch something into service during the holidays ya know....

Well my point and the point of the link were, they are ready to go into action and fight. They can be deployed and be fighting ready.
A quote from the link.. "If we go to war tomorrow, the Raptor will go with us."
Also if you ever have any questions about and specific military hardware, I recommend checking out a site called the Federation of American Scientists. http://www.fas.org
They can answer just about ANY question you might have about military eqipment. From Tanks to 'Special Weaps'. Its a nice site..
