So whats everyones thoughts and opinions on them? Who has them? What is it or are they? I am seriously considering getting one or two of them myself. Just curious as to what everyone else thinks about them around these boards.
Obviously I don't have a problem with them and don't really care about the whole "live with it the rest of your life" thing. I have to live with every choice I make for the rest of my life anyway, I just don't have to look at them. Unless I got something that made me physically ill or cringe when I see it, then I can't understand the problem.

Yeah, tattoo's don't disgust me or anything. I'm pretty jealous of people that have them actually. I don't think I could ever get one though, I'd have a hard time deciding on a design.
I always kind of looked at them as fashion upgrades. Like why should I spend the money on a tattoo that I might change my mind about later, when instead I could spend the money on a shirt or something, and if I change my mind I don't have to wear the shirt anymore.
I guess color your hair a funny color and see if you enjoy people talking to you about your hair all the time, cause I think that's how it is when you have a visible tattoo.

I have 2 and here is the first thing I do when I hear someone is looking to get their first.
How long have you thought about this?
This isn't a spur of the moment thing it's permanent and you will be judged by what you get.
I always recommend to wait at least a year after you decide you want one.
Where do you want it and how big?
Location is key. Unless you are indepently wealthy put it where you can hide it, at least at first. If you plan on working in an office consider hiding all, image is everything. Also different places hurt more than others like the inside of the upper arm is intense while the outside is just annoying. A large tattoo is harder and more expensive to touch up if you do something to it (example: sunburns fade them, gaining and losing weight stretches them.)
Where are you going to get it?
Some of these guys are hacks so you need to be careful. Find out all you can about the tattoo artist and be willing to pay for a good one. Nothing looks worse than bad tattoo work and cover ups are hard because they could require alot of dark colors.
I personally have no regrets about mine and will get more, but I do know alot of people who feel differently about theirs.

I want to get a colored dragon on my forearm, but I think that I need to put it some place where it can be covered since I work in a "Office Space" environment. Maybe up under the sleeve so it is covered by a short-sleeve shirt.
I've been searching for a dragon that I like, but haven't found one yet.

DO what snake did :hehehe: ok ok, inside joke, anyway, Dragons are kewl, I have my picture picked out for my tuiger and all, I just need to find an artist that I like to do it, the one guy who I thought was good, went pyscho and killed his wife, sooooo, his shop is still there, under new management, but he be locked up, he did nice work too, oh well.
kossori what are you thinking of getting... get something you will want forever, I have loved tigers since I was little, and that has never changed. My wife has one she dislikes, and wants to get it covered up, or something done over it, it was done by a not so great artist as well, I think that is key here, a good tattoo artist is the main ingredient.

Well, I have been thinking for a couple months now, more and more as time goes by, of getting a tattoo of Pac-Man. I am thinking eating a pellet and having a power pellet after that followed by one of the ghosts or something. I want it scrolling down from my elbow area to my wrist. The other tattoo I have been thinking of is a giant skull/xbones on my right side just below my armpit to about level with my belly button or a bit lower on my waist. I have always had a fascination with the symbol and to a lesser but still great extent an interest in pirates. The skull would look a lot like this, I am thinking (without the black square of course):

I am thinking about getting a full body tattoo of myself, but a little taller with a nice tan and ripped abs.

And be sure your sure :D . I have three, right shoulder, left shoulder, and underneath left forearm.
Only one I regret in my left shoulder. I thought the "artist" looked a bit stoned when he was doing it, but it looked like it was coming out fine so I said nothing. When it healed the eyes where messed up (color ran outside the border line, not the right shape, etc) and some shading wasnt done the way I wanted. I went back and flipped out on the guy and he offered to repair it which I declined :upyours: , so I still have to have it fixed.

My last will be a Gargoyle on my back the only tattoo I won't be able to see w/o a mirror. To me a tat has to mean something or it's not worth it. The Gargoyles by myth are the guardians of mankind, seems appropriate to have something watching my back.
Caution they are addictive :yaya: . I go through spirts where I start jonesing for a new one, usually when I have no $$$$ :upyours: , not fair now I want one and it's Christmas time so my $$ isn't mine :wallbash: .

I've got two tat's. One that no straight man would ever want to see, and one across my back. Shoulder blade to shoulder blade a tribal patern with a pentagram in the middle. (pointing up of course) If you must know what the other tattoo is, think of "Bullet Bill" from Super Mario World on the SNES or GBA. Also to note I was extremely intoxicated for the one tat.

Yeeaaaaahhh...I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with ya there wihadmin. Oh and I'm also gonna have to ask you to moderate the forum on sunday too. See, we lost a few people this week and we sort of have to play a little catch up... Thanks a bunch wihadmin.
Sorry bout that, I couldn't resist! :jester:
I love tatoos, I don't have any of my own but most of my friends are sort of the punk rocker type...I guess used to be one of'em myself...I listen to alot of punk still but just don't dress the type and couldn't never decide on a good tatoo. Except.. I've always wanted to get a tatoo of a barcode on my arm, sort of like the one that Henry Rollins has on the back of his neck.. I think thats pretty cool.

I have a cross on my upper arm, and I've always told myself that if I ever got one, that would be what I would get. Only problem now, is that it isn't filled in and I'm trying to decide exactly what to get. This is a pic that is similar to what I have, except without any of the initials.

Just be absolutely sure that it is what you want. And I would advise against anything "trendy" You remember when barb wire around the arm was real cool? Goldberg and Pamela Anderson had 'em. Now when I see both of them I think it looks really lame.

You need to get a huge-ass picture of Gorro from MK on your back. His lower pair of arms could be holding / pressing in on a WiH logo (if we ever get one :hehehe: ).

My thoughts on tattoos:
I would never, ever get one. You'd need to know me, but I would look ABSOLUTELY STUPID with one- ANYWHERE. However, I have no problems with them. Many of my co-workers have them. Many of our "clients" (I'm a cop) have them as well...
[steps up on soapbox]
My only word of caution: If you DO get a tattoo, please, PLEASE don't be one of those whiny bastards who gets a tattoo and then later cries, "Everybody judges me because of my tattoo! It's not fair! I can't get hired at XYZ Company because of it! Boo hoo hoo!"
If you get a tattoo where others (meaning- non-intimate others) can see it, please don't bitch when people look down on you for it- you knew ahead of time that some people would do it, so you can't act all suprised.
[steps off of soapbox]
Have fun, and like everybody else has said- choose something you won't regret when you're 70. Make sure it's something you'd be damn proud to show your grandson or daughter.

I am basically scarred for life, I have just about my entire back tatted and both uppers arms sleaved and my right forearm and left calf. I got them out of the desire to have them noone forced me, but lemme explain, not to get to personal or have anyone think something bad about me, I was in a federal prison in Butner, NC for almost 5 years, and just getting them the pain was kind of like a high for me, and would just keep getting another every few months or so, had I not been there I probably would not have any, I own my own business and I have noticed that some people look twice at me, especially when I have to go the thier house or something, that is why I say I am scarred for life, really only my forearm is the only one you can see but it covers most of the arm. I would advise anyone to really think about placement of them and be sure that you want that for life, ya know make sure it has meaning. And do not just get one because you think its cool or the thing to do!
