Ping Question

Lately my ping has been noticebly higher while playing. I've messed with the rate console commands (cl_cmdrate, cl_updaterate, rate) and found no relief. My ping has been at around 85-100. I have a 1536/384 aDsl connection, so I expect a lower ping.(It used to be 45-50) Anyone know of anything that could cause a problem within CSS or Steam?

It's not the fact that my ping is high, its the fact that it turns into a slideshow from time to time.

I play with an average of 120 ping on a cable connection. I notice alot of people think that anything around a 100 or more is like ewwwwww or something.

Why? I feel fine when I play with 120 except in the waters of chateau, that's it.

My ping averages 115 most of the time and I very rarely have lag issues...

My ping averages about 80-120. I have lag once in a while, but last night on Dust, with about everyone and their mother throwing flashes, I took a lot of lag.

cl_cmdrate 101 , cl_updaterate 101 , rate 25000 those are good settings... also a really good setting go to your counterstrike shorcut on the desktop and right click properties.. then type -heapsize 512000 , that will DEDICATE 512 MB of ram to counterstrike.. thats for 1 GB people.. you can safely dedicate 2/3rds of your RAM to CS if you want and it really helps. it should look like this.. afterwards. "H:\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe -applaunch 240 -heapsize 512000" thats how mine looks cuz i have 1GB of ram.. if you have 512 ram you could get away with dedicating 300000 by typing -heapsize 300000 etc.. hope that helps.

The ram command you mentioned is that under the shortcut or in the console?

Lately I've noticed that every once and awhile my ping will just slowly creep up. As high as 500 sometimes. :thumbsdown: When this happens I notice one or two others as high as me too. But eveyone's is a little higher.

Yep I have noticed that to. When mine goes up it seems like they all go up together. I don't even know why I asked anyway I am always in the 40's. I wish my game play could keep up with my ping.

My ping is always around 100 - 170.. Only because I live in the UK though.

If anyone ever wondered why my ping appears low.. cl_cmdrate 0. ;)

Thanks for the input guys. I really thought my ping was much lower when I first started playing CSS, and along the way it got higher. I thought maybe some setting that I didn't know about got messed up.
I remember one time I was playing 1.5 long ago, and some server I went to reset everyone's config. Everyone was complaining cause their binds didnt work anymore, and since I dont use the default WASD config, I got screwed. Thats what got me thinkin a cvar or something got reset.
