All of you with that nice new shiney copy of Special Forces need to get on the SF server and help us populate it! I know you say you don't want to play b/c you don't know the people there, but that is how the BF2 #1 server started too! We didn't know anyone, and then some became regs, and now look at us!!!

PLAY IT DARN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Help us get keep it populate 24/7! If it's only populated for 7 hours out of the day, the owners won't keep it around for long. Then we all will be playing on some other unregulated SF server and have to deal with all the tards.

I will try it again, I played on the other day when I got SF, I just don't like the game, it has nothing to do with the server, If I do play it would only be on WiH.

Believe me, I would if I could. The lag is killing me. I remember when BF2 first came out there was lag everywhere for the first week or so.

Delete your cache guys. I installed SF yesterday and the lag was bad for me. I deleted the BF2 cache and all is smooth again. It might work for you too.

in your "my documents" folder look for a bf2 folder and then find the folder that has your video settings it is a long string of letters and numbers and if you have more than 1 you will get lag this trouble was really bad when b2 first came out. delete both of the files and then restart your computer and restart the game (pc reboot not required but it does not take that long and it can't hurt)

It will be hard for me to stay in, but I will try to get in a game or two on the SF. I am like many, not many old friends, but a lot of new new tards and it isn't FUN.

Hopefully your message here will draw some people to play on it and we can have some FUN like we do on the regular server.

I like SF, but it also has it's down side. Maybe all the rgulars should try to hook up one day at a certain time and try to have some FUN and see what it is like without all the tards on there. That way the server might start to be used like it should and more people will play it.

Try setting a time like say 6:00 p.m central time, it seems like that would be a time most could easily make it in and we could have a GREAT game play time on SF.

Got on the SF server and played with Drayu on Leviathan map. Seemed like the server got full later on in the evening. I'll stay with it.

Yeah no doubt. I haven't been playing as much as I oftenly do because of work, big week at Best Buy last week.

Everytime I do get on though, both servers have been stuffed... like usual. And like always, I find myself at the server selection screen clicking and refreshing until a spot opens up.

I'll be on SF tonight. Haven't been playing it much mainly due to the fact that that computer hadn't been playing the game all that well and I've been spending alot of my gaming time figuring out what the problem is. I just got it working good last night so you should been seeing me back on again now.

I only got BF2 because someone stole it from walmart and turned it in as used to another place for money. Walmart didnt' care, so the place resold it to me for $30.

Last couple of days have been too hard to play as I work in retail.

what happens when you change video settings or in this case install an update/upgrade it sometimes (read most times) creates 2 files instead of overwriting the file this creates lots of problems i do not remember exactly where the file is but if you look in your "my Documents" folder there is a BF2 folder somewhere inside there is a folder that contains you video settings it is a weird combo of numbers and letters you will know it when you see it delete just that file and when you start the game it will recreate the file based on the last video settings you set

I am gonna try this tonight also. wihadmin is not the first person to mention clearing the video cache. I've heard alot of people mention this on other forums as well with very positive results. Its also mentioned in the tweakguides.com BF2 tweak guide. Goto:
\Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\

and

\Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\xpack\cache\ (if you have the SF expansion)

and delete any folders inside the \cache\ folder. Defragment for harddrive, restart PC and play the game.

ok, I found the cache I think, it was under the map xpack...so that would be logic and I had 2...I deleted them...lets see how it will run this night:P

my bf2 file is empty, it doesnt contain a cache folder and the xpack file doesnt even exist (although i already installed SF)

I haven't even bought it yet. I'm debating whether to get it or not as I have seen mixed reviews on it. And I REALLY hate the fact it has to be a different server instead of seamlessly fitting on the same server like "Road to Rome" and "Secret Weapons" did...

well, after playing with some great squad members...and drayu as squadleader, I'm confinced! its a great game. still the iron gator map isn't removed...

now I have deleted the cache files I can walk in a normal map with my nightvision on, before I couldn't do that bc of the lag...stil iron gator is horrible, less horrible....I killed 5 guys on that map! unfortunally I have been killed 15 times :wallbash:

so, why don't the ppl who have SF go on the server in the weekend so we can have some fun!

Iron gator is an exception. It is a pos map that will lag to no end. Too many objects. I've removed it from the rotation until they can improve its performance. This will take effect after next reboot.

well i did this for the original BF2 on orders of pheonix and have done it again and it made the game playable(except inside buildings withs all that clutter crap). i looked in the c:/my docs/bf2 folder again today and there's a folder named "logocache" and i was wondering if this too might be deleted for a how-ever insignificant change in proformance. anyone know?

This folder contains all the banners of all servers you have already been playing on. I deleted all of them except the one of the WiH-server, but I don´t know if it changes your performance.

I hate to say this, But Sir, I agree with you, the SF server is hardly full, and the owners should save thier coins for something eles, it's been an interesting past couple weeks, but it seems that SF in genral is a loser.
Maybe if EA gets their arse in gear and truely patches/fixes all the faults it might be worth considering trying a SF server again.
Till then, IMO I think the owners should not pay for a second month of SF.

Actually, I think one reason people don't like SF, it's that it is harder to see on the night maps and getting your butt owned. It is easier to sneak around and all the new gear, but I myself and I have heard others they don't like the 1 loner that can hide in the dark and kill a lot of people.

We just have to get use to finding those dirty, stinking, no good low lifes and kill them. PRATICE and more game play will get use better and make the game funner.
As for no chopers and all........GREAT, I love the only FOOT SOLDIERS maps or better known as GROUND POUNDERS.

I'm sure after we get a good night of 4 hours play on SF, everyone will start to get a better view of the game, including myself..................... Now where is that flag we must capture? :D

Just wondering here but...The problem isn't that the server keeps crashing is it? I got on last night and there were only like 8 people but it filled up quick which leads me to think maybe it's an actual server issue?

yeah, back to that bug where you will connect and then CTD in game....happens ...but usually a restart or map change takes care of it.....I also think that when the server does crash b/c there are no regs populating it and coming right back it dies off till we get on :(

There's something weird going on after the crashes. I think when people tried to re-join they get CTD or worse a full system crash.

I'm going to be working with our provider to re-install SF and initialize it with the configuration we have from the BF2 server. This is going to happen probably next week.

Wow, the server is populated right now(8:15am)!!! About 35 people on it, lets get some regs on there today, just to bump up the numbers.....the server seems to be starting to take off, we need everyone's help to keep it that way....lets make WiH #1 and #2 severs in the world!!!!

Here's the skinny from the owners guys, we gotta make the SF server top-10 by end of Jan. The only way to get it to top-10 is by keeping it populated 24/7. If it isn't top 10 by then, it's bye-bye SF server. They don't want to be paying premium bucks for a server that's only populated 8 hours day. So, if you guys enjoy playing SF on our server where there's some sort of administration, help us keep it populated.

The only reason why I think it's dropping off at nite is due to GameSpy. Lots of time, I'd connect and idle at nite. In the morning, I'm disconnected with the message "Gamespy connection error". Anyone seen that?
