I love it... liked all but 1 map so far, the first one, Levithaon or something...

What I like: night time, new vehicles, tear gas, the maps... It is awesome to hide, and not be seen...

Night vision is sweet, a little more strain on the eyes, but still good. The server runs smooth for me.

Cant figure out the grapling hook, but I will.

This is short, but lets get some opinions and comments going, and any bugs that you might see...

Oh yeah, more tk's but that is because of the learning curve, and the quick punishes again of course.

only had like an hour last night but im digging it.

don't know what probs you have with grappling hook, BUT after you use it use the "G" button to pick it back up. thats cool.

SOOOOOOO hard to see people.. i like it

new guns are fun

haven't used tear gas or flash bang effectively yet

A resounding "Meh." It's cool, but I think I liked vanilla better. :dunno: Maybe I'm crazy or havn't played it enough yet.

i enjoyed last nite except for that damn leviathan map seemed like it was always on that map, used the cs gas at first by accident and gassed myself but luckily i remembered reading that 8 put on the gasmask. used it to gas some enemy but they came through it and killed me without any difficulty oh well nothing new there. overall i think it will be pretty cool but the tier 2 unlock system sucks ass cause even though you unlock something you cant use it unless you happen to be playing the force that uses it that is totally fricking lame

It is nice and great to play new maps with new weapons and all, not to many reg players on there yet. Like to see some real team play like we get on the other server. Maybe in a few more days after some people buy it we can get a better feel for how the game plays.
The sneaking around is better and funner, but if the commander isn't watching things one man steals a lot of flags.

Easier for squad leaders to hide if the enemy has a lame commander.
Ski boats are cool and 4 wheeler is dangerous for your rear lines and loosing flags.
Cool to use the crossbow and hook.

I seen lots of new names on there and it was even hard for me to get a full squad for awhile.

Other than that the game has real potential for some serious game play by team players.

My Battlefield 2 Special Forces ***CRASH*** impressions:

I think that ***CRASH*** it is a good improvement, but there is still stuff lacking ***CRASH***. Where is my damn Littlebird? Why can't I use my unlocks on any map with any team (or at least give me a comparable unlock for each team)?

***CRASH***The night vision is pretty well implemented, and the Darth Vader breathing mask is entertaining, although if somebody launches the gas grenade right at you ***CRASH*** you're still hosed- you''ll be affected before you can put the mask on. That's not too bad though- it makes sense- if you got a couple lungfulls in you'd still be coughing and blurry-eyed inside your mask.

Some of the new maps are okay- some are just boring- for instance, I find the first map really, really boring. Leviathon or something. ***CRASH*** I love Warlord, and Ghost Town.

Last but not ***CRASH*** least, I have never experienced the server crashing as frequently as ***CRASH*** it was last night. Lord. I wouldn't care as much if I didn't hate that first map so much!

All in all- worth the $30 if you were already a diehard (I consider myself in that group). However- I think that most of this stuff should have been included as free updates. If I'm gonna spend $30 I want new stuff that changes the gameplay even more.

A little more feedback- the night-vision levels are pretty interesting, but overall they are very cramped feeling. I wish they would give us some night versions of original maps or something. How about a version of Reactor where the fighting has damaged the reactor and we all glow in the dark? Just kidding!

I just feel like I am bumping into dudes everywhere in those levels, like it's WWI style trench warfare.

well i just unlokced like 4 new weapons in like 20 minutes this morning . that in itself was cool.

other than that havent plyed much to get a good feel for it. it seems a lot faster pace than bf2 and i seem to be getting killed from every angle. havent found any good spots yet to hide and work my defense skills.

so far i do like SF, but there does seem to a lot of spiking or lagging, it just dosent seem real stable.

These comments will be a little random but I am tring to give as much info to those of you who don't yet have the game.
First off, I have very mixed feelings about the game. Like I said in other previous posts, the expansion would have been way better if it was a true expansion upon BF2 instead of a seperate game. Like frogbait said, I like the stealthy aspects of the game and having a few smaller spec ops maps is deffinetely cool, but IMO not enough to be considered a real expansion. The zip line works real well, but the grappling hook is a bit buggy and needs some work. I also don't like the fact that once you use the hook, even if you miss your target you can't pick it back up and use it again, that's plain stupid! The new weapons are cool...still trying to get a feel for them but my first impression is that there purpose is simply more choice rather than an advantage or power. I think most people will like them... One thing I don't like about the weapons kits is that they are for BF2 instead of SF... While you can use them with that particular Army in SF, the unlocks are only for BF2. I like the fact that they carry over, but they deffinetely have to add special weapon unlocks specific to SF. The tear gas and flash bangs are a good addition. Some of the new vehicles are just lame and are obviously a quick reskinning of the Humvee. The BMP however is cool. Without making this post too big, the one thing I have a serious problem with is the RPG for the rebel forces. First off, it is unguided...fine...thats realistic, BUT it has absolutely no blast radius or take down power on infantry unless you physically hit the guy with your rocket. Thats just plain stupid. How many times in the news do you hear soldiers getting hit by RPGs in RL? The things are infantry killers and it would be really cool to use them as such. In Americas Army RPGs PWN...
The technical aspects of the game are buggy and expect to run into some problems, bugs, crashes, etc... The expansion IMO is screaming for a patch even more so than the original. Don't expect a plug and play game.
Finally, while I have so far enjoyed the game, I see myself getting bored with it real fast unless they do something about some of the issues. I deffinetely don't think its worth 30 bucks unless your a die hard hard BF2 fanatic...even then, you're going to be screaming for a patch. After playing for about an hour I had an itch to go back to the Gulf of Oman.

Ya frog haha just me and you for like 2 rounds, funny if you remember 2 days before me saying it's so hard nowadays to get in your squad :hehehe:
__
The new items are cool - click to release, e to use, g to pickup.. Love the hook/zipline and nightvision but not enjoying the flashes/mask/and teargas
__
The guns - copied from my other post on another topic
Special Forces Unlocks
Take note, in order to unlock these, you must first have unlocked the base Battlefield 2 weapons for that kit (for example: to be get the F2000 the user must first unlock the G3).
Scar-L for Spec Ops
G36E for Medic
F2000 (w/ grenade launcher) for Assault
MP7 for Engineer
MG36 for Support

All Special Forces unlocks may be played on the original game and players without Special Forces may pick up the new kit and receive the gun but other than the guns and the flashbang no new items or vehicles are avalible on Vannila servers. However certain unlocks may only be used on certain forces of Special Forces.

*Ranks/Score decide how many unlocks a player will receive just for purchase of Special Forces, the formula is not certain yet, however most players will receive 2-4 unlocks*
__
I like 5/8 maps :dunno:

The elevators and gate switches i think are neat features

More vent spaces to crawl though. cool if you like counter strike :hehehe:

More hidden spots altho it seems way more fighting will be rooftop instead of on ground.. differnt

However this one new map makes wake island look easy.. It's called Iron Gater or something... Retarted big carrier on defense as an attacking mec has to atk from there island of a non capturable flag across the water to a giant carrer. However there is one open side of the carrier and with grapple hooks and ziplines taken out you have to manage to get your 6 man boat group though one entrance guarded by 20 people with pkms and other boat gunners. Or you can try the blackhawk and eat carrer essex. Scores I've seen 222,0\202,0/207,0/215,0 Us navy wins :flipoff:
__

New vehicles.. Very acceptable cept that little lugage carrier tart cart thing that goes as fast as you walk  Cool hummers have mounted Tow to take out tanks  Jet ski's and atvs fast but not forcefull accept roadkills.

Apache Longbow... Love it in the way it's still a powerfull force but is not going to get the gunner 50 kills by baseraping.. Even with sensativity of mouse turned up it takes awhile for the actual heli to make the moves so it is a little harder to control.. Another thing i've noticed was the tv guided missle is now at a difffernt angle (staighter to ground) so it's going to take awhile before the driver understands how to set the gunner up.. I've also noticed the actual machiene gun on the heli seems weeker.. About 7 shots to blow the cars yet 1 hand nade can blow it.
__

Bugs.. 2 bugs i've personally noticed..
1. Theres some elevators where if you jump at a certain angle and use the lever you get your feet stuck on the bottom so you can't do anything but suicide.
2. There is a where spawn where you spawn in the air. However when you open your parachute it's possible somehow your parachute cuts the guy or something and you get a teamkill.. Basicaly your inside someone or right below than you open your chute and get a teamkill

I like the new toys.
The expansion pack is way harder than BF2 but I like it. The way the game is structured now, demands a greater level of teamplay and smarts.
NATO forces seem to have an advantage over weapons though. No major upgrades for rebels and MEC.

My beef with the expansion pack is the fact that maps are way too fluid.
For example, in BF2 in urban maps, the troops have routes to fallow. That leads to alot of head on battles which in turn leads to troops fallowing another path in the map that can upset the whole game. The paths maybe fixed but there is still alot of fluid motion in the game.

In the expansion pack the design of most of the maps lead to battles that resemble A LOT of Unreal Tournament's or Quake's frag fests. Too much confusion. The air carrier map is one PRIME example of that. I hate that map even though its a GREAT chance to compile high scores and kills if you are good.

IMO they should have made urban maps resemble more the urban maps of BF2.

Oh and one thing I dont like is how after a round you are forced to create your squads again.
Overall though they did a great job with the expansion pack.

yeah hahahaha when i first did it and climbed up i sat there hitting e for like 2 mins going "WTF?!?! there's still 6 more cliffs to go up and im just stuck here?!?!?!?!" g, wtf.

oh yeah and as many negative things people have to say about this game, just think...what game do you play when you come home from a long day and are jonesing for your gaming fix? that's right, it's STILL BF2. that's how i feel SF will be. everyone is complaing and nit-picking about the bugs, but 3, 4, 6 months from now people will probably still be playnig this.

It's a pretty fun expansion, I like it. I seem to be finishing in the top 5 alot more in SF than I do in regular BF2.

Seems like a lot of people are saying that you can use some of the tier 2 unlocks within SF, but only on certain armys. I'm pretty sure you can't. It's just the Seals and the SAS that have different basic weapons. All the other factions have the same weapons as in BF2, but with any and all factions in SF, you can sub your tier one unlocks.

It's pretty funny playing SF right now, everyone's all lost on the maps. Like that Iron Gator map, the carrier one. I had to play that stupid map a good 4 or 5 rounds before I really knew where I was going. It's a fun map though once you know the layout.

My complaints:
Why does everyone refer to plain old regular battlefield 2 as vanilla bf2? vanilla and regular both have the same amount of characters, and lots of dumb people get confused by people calling it 'vanilla'.

That's it for the complaints, I haven't had any real problems at all or anything.

......LAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!......

when I forget the .........LAG!!!!!!!......its pretty ok, I really missed my grappling line and hook in the reg. BF2 :hehehe: I was in a situation were a sniper was on a roof without a stair (he probebly parachuted on it) and was pressing 6 again and again after a while I realized it wasn't BF2:SF. :wallbash: and the team switching is iritating....ow and frog, plz stop commanding and make an kickass squad, bc this is the game for ur squad!

I was pretty disappointed by what I've played so far. It's bad that after two rounds, I just quit a game out of frustration and anger.

Basically my view on SF is that it's like starting out in BF2, except minus the fun, minus any aspect of teamplay on nightmaps, and being repeatedly killed by the 36000 campers sitting around in the dark on the nightmaps. Of course night vision is little help when theres guys all around you and you can't tell friend from foe apart at times. Also the game is very camper/sniper oriented in night maps. So far I'm disappointed, but mabey gameplay will get better.

Note: This is the toned done, less complainy version of my "disappointment" in SF. I was originally going to donate a whole thread complete with like 8 paragraphs why I hate the game. But I might give it another chance. Again, like I said, its bad when I literally say "screw this game" and leave after such a short time of play.

Edit - Part of the anger and lack of patience is probably a result of the fact I'm very tired, and for some reason my work just decides to add days onto my weekend schedual after nothing was on it before yesterday.

overall i give it a thumbs up. the learning curve is interesting. it has issues, but once you learn to take advantage of what you can and work the new weapons right.

also, i like having some new unlocks now for bf2.
