Getting bored with BF2. Don't have SF yet, but willk probably get it today. But the only game I play is BF2.
I am gettin' bored with it, and decided to try "Half-Life 2". Yes, I've never played it yet. I never even played the original. So I was thinking of buying HL2 and HL. I notice a LOT of people still play CS, so what do y'all think of it? Are they good games?

First off, HL and HL2 single player are IMo the most solid single player FPS ever made (although I have never player Halo). You will love the single player stuff. The only thing that is slightly frustrating in multi player is the hit detection but it is fast paced and fun to play. Both solid purchases!!!

well, we're still playing cs:s either because its a solid game or because we're too stingy to buy other games ;O
HL and HL2 are among the best single player experiences you'll have with any FPS on any gaming platform IMO. They both do a great job of immersing you in the action. Solid purchases for sure.

Now is a good time to get into CSS. A lot of the HR guys are getting into CSS. They all suck except for 1 or 2 of them. :flipoff: But seriously, I love them like they're my own clan.

I got a couple weeks into HL2 before deciding to try out the CS:S thing. Found this server right off the bat.
Whoa!! Kick ass game! Great place to play! Cool players!
Haven't played HL2 since, but it was pretty cool what I saw of it.

I'll probably just go ahead and get it soon then. I have to get two new tie-rods for my wife's car though. Damn.

BTW. Some assclown already had a steam login for DarknessWithin. So I had to be TheDarknessWithin.

CS:S is a very different game from Battlefield.
This would get me murdered in some circles, but here it is: I view CS and CS:S as Unreal Tournament or Quake, but with Navy Seals. This is because your mobility is insane (you run as fast as an Olympic Sprinter), you can hippity-hop this way and that like a meth-addict running from invisible grasshoppers, the weapons (if you don't suck like me) are accurate from absolutely stupid ranges (wait until you get shot IN THE HEAD by somebody who has jumped off a ledge, turned around, and fired in midair).
The rounds are very short, and you have time to chat with the other guys if you get shot early on, which is nice, IMO.
It's a lot of fun, but just because it looks more realistic than some other games don't expect it to actually be realistic. Sometimes it is a nice break from BF2- a 30 minute long slugfest on Kubra Dam (my most hated level) can wear you out, and sometimes you just want a quick round of ass-whuppin.

I dunno, I like CS:S better than BF2. I haven't played BF2 in a while now, but the reason I didn't like it is - and you've probably heard me moan about this before - that the role of fighter aircraft seems fairly weak now. You see, I'm a closet flight simmer, started with the original MS Flight Simulator and have played just about everything up to Lock-On: MAC. In BF1942, if I grabbed a fighter I could still mow down infantry by strafing them if there were no air targets. Heck, you could fly the plane low and run over enemy infantry/send jeeps flying. Both of those are hard to pull off now because of map size and aircraft speed. You can use VTOL aircraft for ground stuff, but... I mean, there's still bombers, but I can't do my own proper whoring in them... I have a bombardier, and I'm responsible for keeping him/her happy.
The Air-to-Air got boring fast... I found it way too easy. There's probably more skilled pilots on now, but back then all you had to do was to acquire a target, wait for them to panic and drop flares, then fire. If they picked you up, just hit the afterburners and do an Immelman-type maneuver, and you'd lose em. And choppers... well, there's always so many people in line to fly them that I never got much of a chance to really get a feel for them. Plus I always felt they were just fixed-wing fodder. So then, all that was really left for me was ground combat. I didn't find it that impressive... dunno why. CS:S seems more fun, albeit with more BS. I dunno. We'll see... I'll give BF2 another run.

Well, I took the plunge. I guess I'll be seeing you guys in CS:S as soon as I figure out what is what. I'll probably play through single-player too first.

I will type you up a little manual:
Step 1: There will be lots of creepy bad guys.
Step 2: Kill them all- every last one of them.
Step 3: Errr, that's it, really.
Half Life was pretty pioneering in 1998 or 1999, whenever it came out, but everybody has copied it so there isn't anything in there you haven't already seen. You should be able to handle it pretty well.

Yeah, I figured. I was more wondering if the manual had any back-story or anything in it...

... I'm selling my Half-Life2 copy for $25. I have only played it once on-line, I've just always played BattleField2. I did play the single-player campaign in Half-Life2 and it is just absolutely awesome, but I never play the game. Let me know! Check the Marketplace.

There is not much of a backstory, but if there was it would go like this...
You are Gordon Freeman, a science/physics major right out of MIT, you are now employed at the super secret Black Mesa research facility working on some really crazy military teleportation stuff, the game begins on a routine trolly ride to your job.....
Thats pretty much all the backstory leading up to the game.
