Just received Special Forces...

I just received the special forces expansion pack and I must say, this thing will be pretty slick online. When I installed and played earlier there were no servers up, so I wasn't able to test the online capabilities, but the single player was pretty sweet. The zip cord is a cool addition, and should make for interesting new strategies both from a defense standpoint and when attacking enemy flags. I wasn't able to get the full scope of the new maps due to their being scaled down for the single player 16 person versions, but the night maps are pretty cool and will add a lot of new gameplay elements into the game. The graphics also seemed improved in the night maps, possibly because of the different lighting techniques used, but then again, it could just be my imagination. Overall, I am really looking forward to getting on WiH and playing some SF!

BTW, When updating to SF, you will be patched to the latest version of BF2, which is 1.1.2552-344.0. As of now, there are currently no online servers with this patch, so I am stuck not being able to play BF2 until everyone else is updated, which sucks hard!

Thank you for purchasing the Battlefield 2: Special Forces expansion.

This readme file contains last minute information that did not make it into the
manual, as well as more detailed information on various features already covered
in the manual.

BATTLEFIELD 2™: SPECIAL FORCES SPECIFIC FEATURES
================================================== ==========

IMPORTANT MESSAGE REGARDING EXPANSION PACK AND MULTIPLAYER
When Battlefield 2: Special Forces is installed, a new update is applied. However,
with this new content it is not possible to play on the Internet or LAN with
Battlefield 2 1.03 users.

To be able to play together with Battlefield 2 core users, you need to have
update 1.1 or later.

- In order to play Special Forces in multiplayer on the internet you will need
to download the latest patch from EA.

NIGHT VISION
- The NIGHT VISION is bound to the "7" key by default. When it is enabled, it
will allow you to see better in dark areas. There is a battery life on the
goggles that will deplete with usage and replenish when not in use.

GRAPPLING HOOK
- The GRAPPLING HOOK is part of the Assault and Anti-tank kits. Throw it using
the fire or alternate fire buttons. Press "E" to get on and off of the rope.
Use the direction keys to climb the rope. The rope will connect to any static
object in the world, which means it will not work on terrain or vehicles.

ZIP LINE
- The ZIP LINE is part of the Special Forces and Sniper kits. Use the fire button to
shoot the line and use the alternate fire button to check if the target is a
viable connection point or not. Once the line is in place, use "E" to get on.
You will slide down the line automatically.

FLASH BANG
- The FLASH BANG is used to stun other players. The FLASH BANG is part of the
Assault kit. Use it like a hand grenade. When it detonates, anyone in the effect
area will be deafened and those looking at the explosion will be blinded as well.

TEAR GAS
- The TEAR GAS will linger in an area for a short time. The TEAR GAS is part of the
Support kit. While active, anyone in the cloud will become affected. While affected,
players will be blind and unable to sprint. Use the GAS MASK (default key "8") to
avoid being affected by the gas. Once affected however, the gas mask will not
cure you. It will only prevent further affects.

UNLOCKS
- By playing on a Battlefield 2™: Special Forces map, you will gain the priviledge
of being able to unlock some of the Battlefield 2™: Special Forces weapons for use
in regular BF2 maps. These unlocks are considered to be tier 2 unlocks, where as
the original unlocks are considered to be tier 1. You must first have unlocked
the tier 1 weapon for a particular kit before you can access and unlock the tier 2
weapon. As an example, if you must unlock the G3A3 for the assault kit before you
can unlock the F2000 for the assault kit.

- The grappling hook and zip line take roughly 15 seconds to reload at the resupply
crate.

I was under the impression that by installing SF, you get the patch automatically.

You will get the patch with the game, actually, the installer for Special Forces installs the patch before it even installs the expansion pack.

I wanted to remind you guys that since the SF server is new, it will take a few days for it to start collecting stats. As a matter of fact, most of the non-EA SF servers that were not converted from BF2 should be in the same situation.

Well damn it I just may have to buy this bad boy. But what's up with EA's download thing? Is it like the same thing as Steam? If so, I might not purchase it from EA and just buy this disc itself. EA seems to have enough problems releasing things bug free so I don't know if this would be any different.

Is there a separate CD key for SF or will we be able to install this on multiple computers at work and home?

With BF2, of course, I purchased separate copies for home and work so I'd have the CDs (I dont like to take CDs between work/home all the time).

Don't really know, you cant play it online yet because there are no servers yet. You can play on singleplayer but that is like night and day between multi-player!!

i got it toda at a gamestop store. it wasnt at my bestbuy or comp usa.
it looks fun, but i need more ram and a better video card so i dont lag when i have my night vision on or the cs gas is out.
i played one server and it was LAGGY. then i played single player and when i went back to the multiplayer menu and refreshed i accidently joined a game that was a regular BF2 map and it kicked me and it closed to desktop and opened reg BF2 and instantly started loading the map, but then i couldnt find a button to switch back so that might be lame.
The gun for the SF and Assault on the USMC is wicked.
when you're flashed you cant see the radar! css doesnt even do that.
the patch fxed two things that REALLY bothered me(one i know was bothering some other people...deathcar maybe?)
1) The prefix tag STAYS so you dont have to type it in EVERY FREAKING TIME and
2) I am finally seeing my progress towards master sargent!
