View Full Version : Red Skull on the ground means death for you

Red Skull = land mine (circle flat on ground) or claymore (rectangle standing up on ground) this will kill you if you run over or go near.
Land mines are usually found on roads, sides of roads, and bridges. Clays are by buildings and usually face approaching forces. Hopefully this will help some friendlies spot them.
I also noticed that there is a little warning (red rectangle with black skull) when you get close to a mine.
As Gorro pointed out I and others do and tend to put these mines in bad positions. So, I worked on placing my mines in spots less likely to effect my team mates and as the battle shifts I pick up my mines.
So, I started to observe where enemy vehicles or troops would move thru a certain area on a certain map and stay there most of the map. I think is was WarMachine who was commanding the enemy one time last night and killed me 8 times with arty. I also learned after 4 tank kills time to move.
Now the big problem: players running over mines
I advertise in chat what location and where my mines are located and still team mates run over them and punish. Even had someone run over a mine and punish and say you shouldnt put mines in our base. Well, the mine was outside of the base and the road in clear sight of any friendly approaching vehicle. So, he intentionally ran over the mine to grief me.
I have found out why this happens, no not stupidity, but rushing to where ever they are going and not paying attention to anyone or anything. and to grief players. Plain and simple.
For the engineer who may not know: use your wrench to recover land mines and to remove clays (approach from the back)

Oh how I loved my landmines in DC...I was so l33t with them :D AND...AHhh....let us not forget my claymores.....no no no...even better...the bouncing betty!!!! in POE:BFV, especially on Kassala Town night :D Remember those times boys :D
I just wish the landmines had a quicker activation time once you throw them down. They seem to take for ever to activate! And i wish you had more than two claymores.

Just a quick point: the chat log is small and has extremely high turnover, so for even those people that read it (and I'm often too distracted) it's hard to catch a message.
Still, thanks for putting so much thought into your mine placement. We all had a similar discussion a long while back, and since then friendly mine placements have been quite skillfull IMO.

I was playing with Frog the other night on Wake Island. I was covering him as he was setting mines at the north entrance of the airfield and within 30 secs of placing the mines some dumb person in a buggy would run them at tull speed. He sets up more, same deal. I find some people's stupidity to be of utmost histaria.

Yes, but its gets worse when you blow apc's full of friendlies, and the only one to punish is the non-server regular. Thanks to all who didnt punish last night.

You want a sniper with 5 claymores??? IMHO thats a bad idea... think about it for a sec.... the claymore spam would be unstoppable... ;)

Haha! Sorry for killing you, I never do commander, but the server wasn't allowing us to create squads so I gave the commander a try.
I wish more engineers would take advantage of removing the mines and what not. I absolutely hate playing a map and a teammate mines ALL of the one or two vehicle entrances... you can't do anything about it. Do you drive over the mines and then punish the guy for it? Do you just sacrifice yourself to blow up the mines and hope the guy doesn't do it again? Do you just... leave the vehicle there though it may need to be used else where?
How frustrating, if some people would only realize the BEST positions to put mines... not just random places to throw'em.

Well i got basic explosives today first try so i'm rarely going to use the for defense
Instead i will only use when i doe due to a guy or apc in stable position than i get em
( i don't use these things much so it doesn't affect my teamkills)
but of course every player needs to be aware of other teamates explosives.
I ussualy avoid them but when your in a buggy by the time the skull apears your already full speed 10 ft away

How many kills do you need to get basic explosive? Does it only work with the mines or does the C4 count also?

okay, I also know of only 1 vehicle that can run over a land mine and not blow up. Now do not go taking each other for these vehicles if I tell you.
I have observed on to many occasion 1 vehicle that can run directly over a land mine and not blow up. You have to pass over it, and not hit it with your tires, and that is the buggy.
My solution is to stand in the path of the buggy and to shift directly left or right to make the buggy swerve a tire over the mine as he tries to run me down.

Yeah no doubt, its frustrating, I think I'll avoid the mines... but no, I always get the explosion.
Answer my question in my last post about the explosive badge!

Nades don't count
I think some don't realize the Alt buttton turns huds on and off including the warnings for the mines, claymores, and C4.
