All right- one more mention of this rally. For those who didn't read my 4,582 other posts, Mother Goose, a third friend and I all went to Steamboat Springs to watch a Rally Race. I am really trying to promote this sport in the US to everybody I know- it's the biggest motorsport in the world for a reason, and there's no reason you can't enjoy Nascar AND Rally AND Formula One etc.
Anyway. This year our friend Ben got press access- he's a pretty good photographer (his studio work is actually pretty damned cool!), and he really wants to get into motorsport photography. If you're interested at all in cars and photography, please check out his photos:

There is a link there to e-mail him if you have any constructive criticism. If you are really crazy about cars and you'd like a print of something, he can probably hook you up. His e-mail is on the page.

that looks like GroupA stuff(GroupA and Open).
I will not be happy until the WRC does stages in Canada.

First off....let me say tha I love Rally and F1 and the only thing I Love more is Football...
Not this crappy NFL stuff but the "fitness required" sport of World Football....
Favorite drivers are:
Petter Solberg
Sébastien Loeb
Marcus Gronholm
Favorite teams:
Citroen
Peugeot
Rally is the best racing in the world...I watch Rally for the racing and F1 for the technology....
Oh and why would you hold a rally in Canada? They already hold enough snow events in Finland and Sweeden....I would like to see a rally up or down "Pikes Peak" ...

Wow, I Have No Clue What Ya'll Are Talking About. The Only 'Rally' I Have Ever Seen Is What Comes In The 'Grand Turismo' Games. If The Sport Isn't Based Primarily In The United States, Then I'm WAY Out Of The Loop. Like NFL, I Live And Breathe For That Game.
Soccer... All Racing(excluding Nascar)... Cricket... Rugby... That Kinda Stuff. Forget It!

Rally is, in the rest of the world, extremely popular. In America it long suffered a reputation as an "underground" sport, since it does involve (Legally!) racing on public (oh for shame!) streets.
The real problem, however is that you see so few cars. My understanding is that when a World Rally Championship event is held, there are many different classes going on, so a zillion cars will go by. Here, with the old SCCA Pro Rally (which is now the Rally America rally circuit), there aren't nearly as many classes. You drive for an hour to get to a spectating point, wait for an hour, see 25 minutes of cars, and then you go to the next place. For a diehard fan like me, it's cool, not so much for others.
That's why TV coverage is so important, but it's difficult to get people to pay the TV bills unless the advertisers know that many people are watching. NASCAR and touring car events don't have this problem- you can sit in one spot, and watch all or part of the track, and every single car will go by you many times.

when they do WRC they only race that class(sponsored professional class), local and country events run all classes(amature).
one thing we do have is the targa Newfoundland every year, as well as there is the national rally.

Right, but I thought that they were all run on the same stages, just at different times...I thought this because, while watching WRC on Speed, it must have been a really slow rally. They started talking about the JWRC, and all the privateers who race too. It may have been the way it was edited, but they made it look like a WRC, JWRC, and other events are held at the same time. Similar to how the Rally America events hold the FIA Group N, Open, etc all at the same time.
If I am mistaken, I will hold my head in shame. But not TOO much shame- how much can I know about the WRC when they won't hold a damn event in the states?

their on the same stages, just diffrent weekends.
and reason for no NA events other then mexico is emissions and other legal crap that they can't get a bypass for. as well as lack of intrest.
