I decided to start a new thread about this so as to not be a Dinky :)

So I used to get sick a lot, and could never figure out why. Now this guy at work he smokes, drinks pretty heavily (well, REALLY heavily might be a better fit) and has missed ONE day in the LAST ten years. So I got to thinking...What is the deal? Oh yeah, he is an older guy too. Then I noticed that he doesn't worry about anything. Everything just runs off of him. If I get a sore throat rush me to the emergency room. But him? he just blows it off.

Then I started to do some research about mass hysteria, under the hypothesis that diabetes and cancer and what not might actually be CREATED simply because of one's beliefs. This isn't always the case, because some have bad genetics, but in about 75% of the cases it might be true. there was actually a CDC study on this. So the media, even though they are trying to be helpful, can actually PERPETRATE what they are trying to protect against. The irony huh?

There was a study done by scientists on monkeys on some remote island. They showed the monkeys a new way to prepare thier food. Pretty soon, ALL of the monkeys then learned that trick. The caveat is though, that monkeys learned the trick who had NOT interacted with the monkeys who were taught the new way. they learned it via telepathy or something. Now think for a minute what that means to US. After all, we only use 5-10% of our brains...

holy crap. Back on track... Here's a thought: get more sleep. Most people need at least 8 hous of sleep to stay healthy. Not getting enough sleep has been linked to health problems and weight gain. Also, I heard on a radio news prgoram the other day that flossing is very important for some reason. Apparently it is better then brushing teeth for removing bacteria from your mouth which leads to sickness.

A theory, some smokers are very picky about mouthwash and cleaning their teeth to avoid gum cancer. notice I said some... If this guys takes care of his teeth and gets more sleep than you on a regular basis that might be enough to keep him healthy in terms of not getting colds.

He doesn't. He doesn't eat healthy either. But the sleep thing is true as well. I am a BAD sleeper, and I ain't gettin' hooked on drugs to get to sleep. With the wierd dreams I have all the time it is hard to sleep :) But you are right, it is really important.

They are now saying that you are made of of four components mind, body, spirit and emotions. We don't have all that junk dna and junk brain-power for nothing. But what?

I have an appointment with a sleep lab in January because of sleep apnia. I can tell you 1st hand that lack of sleep really does a number on you. I have been doing research on it and most people lose 20-30 lbs within a couple months of getting thier sleep apnia taken care of. I wiegh 230 now (i quit smoking about a year ago and gained about 40 lbs from thet), so I am sure I will loose a rather good amount of wieght.

I hardly ever get sick. But I am willing to bet that a lack of sleep could lower your immune systems ability to combat illness.
