I am currrently working on an Undead Priest (level 25) and although I am on a PVE server (Malygos) I find that I am dueling people very frequently (both Horde and Alliance). I've found that as a Priest I can pretty much take most other classes lunch money without breaking a sweat... except for Shamans!

It seems that good melee damage, earth shock, healing, and totems rock my socks every time. I would like to get those who have fought Shamans or currently play a Shaman to post up some tactics on how I might be able to overcome my problems.

My current strat is something along the lines of:

Shadow Word: Pain (Inst DoT), Devouring Plague (Inst Dot), Dispel Magic (Inst, if they have any nifty buffs), then Psychic Scream (Inst, Fear), snare with Mind Flay (50% snare + 75 damage/3 seconds).

From that point on I DD with Mind Blast and Smite... keep Pain on them and Flash Heal/Shield myself when necessary. Against mages I substitute Mana Burn for Smite and spam that at them in between getting sheeped/blasted.

Admittedly I am lacking one huge tool which I won't get until level 30... which is Silence and Mind Control. I think that might be the key to beating Shamans but until then... I don't want to keep losing. Any WoW vets have a suggestion for me or care to share their Shaman tactics for wailing on people?

Oh yeah, I'm full Shadow Spec... that's the only way to roll if you're a Priest who wants to kill crap. :)

Since no one has any insight to offer... I'll bump this thread with a link to my projected level 60 spec for Priest.

I'm going to go Shadow/Discipline because I don't think the healing spec offers a viable PVP build as far as surviving in battlegrounds. I might spec full holy in my late 40's and early 50's though to make instance grouping a bit easier.

Your always going to have trouble against a decent Shaman. They are excellent 1v1 PvPers and really just do a ton of damage in a short amount of time. The only key is outlasting their mana supply and even then they do good enough melee to give you a run.

I think you fought a newb shaman. A good shaman shouldn't let you cast a 2.5 second cast spell like Mana Burn... there's no way.

Earthshock > You

Shield, dot, fear, mana burn is the order i cast it, then nuke nuke renew nuke nuke. I didnt have much problem with him. I had more trouble with a rogue 4 levels lower then me, managed to beat him though. I only duel the people that challenge me which is usually the jackasses at crossraods with too much time on their hands. Christina beat the piss out of me with her mage, only person Ive lost too. Arcane missles just clobbers me.

Mage should be the easy fight, silence + fear + stacked DoT's = one dead ass mage.

A good shaman should never let you cast spells while he has mana... heal himself while he has mana, and then melee your ass when he finally runs out.

Its an overpowered class that needs to be nerfed.

Nah, most classes have thier tricks. Shaman frontload tons of damage but their mana drains pretty fast as those shocks cost a LOT of mana. Rogues do lots of crits and can stun lock you pretty easily. Paladins dont do much damage but they are survivors and when played decently, last a LONG time. Druids are like Paladins in that they survive a long while. Mages knock you out flat with tons of instant spells unless you silence or stun them. Warlocks load you up with DoTs and fear you or seduce you. Priests are healers and can survive for quite a while but if they are spec'd for shadow can do a LOT of damage, it just takes them a while.
