Just wondering if people have any pictures of themselves doing fun stuff, like being outdoors and shit you know fun stuff not just sitting in front of a computer. No offense to anybody just sortof wondering if people here get out and screw around or do all we do is drink and play computer games? Anyways here are some pics of me doing something that I'm just learning to do Wake board. I can water ski pretty good but just got a wake board like two months ago and have gotten ok with it. These are form last sunday and I had just started learning to jump and not eat shit, sorry no pics of me jumping but maybe someother time.

All little kids are insane. I just spent all summer teaching little kids how to swim. Loved it but also hated it. But anyways little kids are just crazy either they are deathly afraid of the water and don't want you to let go of them (or they of you) when your getting them to do stuff or they are fearless of the water and little four year old billy who can't swim decides to jump into the pool and promptly sink to the bottom and then I have to save him.
But hey Saur at least it's pics of you doing something but I'm kinda surprised you have no pictures of you playing football. But whatever at least someone replied now I don't feel like a total loser.

Can you make beer in that giant tank...???!!! lots of beer??? :jester:
atomicbob
08-26-2005, 04:12 PM
No, it's not for making beer. It's a filter separator and it goes in a refinery. It takes dirt, condensate and other liquids out of a natural gas stream. Dirty wet, gas gets clean and dry like magic!
My knee? Nothing happened to it lately, but I blew it up racing BMX about 25 years ago, then a few more time since. The last time I rolled a four wheeler and bent it backwards. That was 8 or 10 months ago. I was in a big brace for a while and it seemed to heal up, but the past couple of weeks it has become totally unstable. I'm sure I need surgery, but haven't had time to go have it checked out. So that sux.

Bob what kind and how much schooling did it take for you to make that big hunk of metal? I'm pretty sure engineering but what kind.

After high school I went to a welding trade school for 6 months. I had a scholarship to UCSD but DANG BABIES kept me out of college! (keep it in your pants boys)
So....I welded a long time after that. Built everything from filters to ships to pro-stock drag car chassis to nuclear plants. Hard working super geniouses eventually work their way up the ladder and here I am.
Woo hoo! Top of the world, ma!!
Who am I kidding? This career blows. :hehehe: I guess it could be worse.
EDIT....for example, a refinery will give me this....
Please provide a quotation for two (2) Nowata filter separators to remove entrained moisture and solids 0.5 micron and larger with a maximum allowable pressure drop of 0.5 psi clean and 5.0 psi dirty with 99% efficiency from refinery fuel gas stream. Refinery fuel gas is considered to be a dirty gas stream with liquids and solids, including iron oxides. Materials of construction to be carbon steel shell (A516, Gr 60 or Gr 70 or A285 Gr C), include 1/8" corrosion allowance, internal element to be 304 SS, all connections to be 150 psi class raised face flanges, no threaded connections allowed, vessel to have full radiography and PWHT, all NDE per Shell EGGS 2-GS 50 Welding, Heat Treatment and Non Destructive Testing - Pressure Equipment, paint to be per ENG1048 Painting Systems for Pipe and Equipment, page 4 of 10 - Uninsulated Vessels and Exchangers, System 4A, and vessel to be code stamped per ASME Section VIII, Div I.
Each vessel to be designed for full flow - only one separator will be in service at one time. Controls to be furnished by Motiva. Submit all drawings and weld procedures prior to start of fabrication. Approval of drawings, weld procedures, and qualifications shall be obtained from the purchaser prior to the start of fabrication. A weld map shall be submitted along with the procedures. Flange bolting to conform to SA-193 Gr B7 and nuts shall conform to SA-194 Gr 2H. Bolts coated with zinc or cadmium shall not be used. Vessels to include a stainless steel nameplate to be seal welded to a bracket, contain required ASME Code information, and equipment tag numbers. Tag one vessel 724FIL36112 and tag the other vessel 724FIL36113. Quotation to include pricing for a spare (warehouse) set of filter elements as a separate line item. Design conditions are as follows:
Service: Refinery Fuel Gas
Operating condition
Flow rate: 5.2 mmscfd
Pressure: 40 psig
Temperature: 80° F.
Specific gravity: 0.65
And I figure out what I need to build to solve their problem, design it, work up the estimate, prepare a proposal, and then hopefully, manage the project.
As the Duke would say, "Not bad for a one legged fat man".
I'd rather be a race car driver or nightclub owner. At a beach. A clothing optional beach.

Bob your profession is all that bad, in fact b/c of it I was able to live in a nice house and go to private schools and have college paid for. My dad, also named bob, is a welder that has been in the trade for over 30 years now. I actually worked with him one summer and had the best summer job ever. It was really neat to see all of the stuff he got to do. He's got it good now and works at Lilly, the giant pharmacudical (sp?) company in Indiana, and works in a nice temerature regulated fab shop welding pipe for thier finishers and such.

Dude!! I must say YES. And YES again.
Not only do "term" welders kick ass, but those who admire them kick ass, and so does Lilly as a company. I don;t trade Lily stock much, since I'm more of a short terms gambler kinda of trader, but, I've worked for these types of companies. I've applied for even more. Temp controlled kicks ass. I remember applying at General Dynamics once. Freakin sweet.;

In any case- in the first photo I am just getting ready to fire and in the second I have just finished firing.
For those of you who are gun nuts- YES, I am tilting my head towards the gun and it IS incorrect. Thank you. I am right handed but left-eye dominant and it's a bad habit.

This hobby is more recent, but still many years old. Me and a buddy decided we were going to make a ton of money making neon lights. So we bought all this stuff off an old OLD dude that was retiring. He made it look simple. It wasn't.
But it was fun drinking beer and bending the glass.

Holy cow this thread just got a revival. Bob thats some bad ass stuff going on there. You should post some more of that stuff, thats really pretty cool. Fathergoose who really cares if you are being photographed now, just look at it this way when you work that gut off you can look back at the pics and say "Hey, I really accomplished something" (sorry if that sounds cheesy) because not too many people can take off what they put on. Multiplex what kind of a paintball gun is that? Just wondering becasue I'm sorta into paintball.

Hi-Rise neck because it was outshooting the Halo with the stock one
Pretty sweet trigger job that I did myself, 5mm trigger pull
Annnnnd it is still for sale. :)

Pics of snowboarding injuries would be awesome to see. If only I had some pics of all the shit that I've done to my left leg. Lets see... sprained ankle two to four times can't really remember, broken one of the shin bones (can't remember which one) without really knowing it, hurt like hell for almost 3 months afterwards and I could barely walk (didn't know that it was broken until one of the sprains that I was made to get x-rayed). And then I messed up my knee doing the mother of all snow sports.... sledding. The hill was way steep with several drop offs and many sagebrush and small trees at the bottom. I tore the PCL ligament (I know the L in PCL stands for ligament but I really don't know how to spell the PC part of it) and had to wear a knee brace for several weeks after that. We were actually filming that and I have it on tape somewhere, just not quite sure were. My poor left leg has been through hell.
Oh and sorry if I went wayyyyy off topic.
Bonez
09-16-2005, 02:53 AM
your topic.
nah, never broke a bone, but gave myself some concussions that they took my pass and sent me to the hospital(the latest, i had a nosebleed in the morning, then hit my head and it started agian so they were realling freaking out). what would be more interesting would be my face after i got my wisdom teeth out, i looked like i got in a fight with a concrete barrier.
now my dad on the other hand, took off 3 toes with a lawnmower, smashed his thumb in scaffolding, had a sledge taken to his forehead(left a good mark, mostly faded) among other things.

Here's me and a friend of mine sailing a kayak.
http://img367.imageshack.us/img367/9807/untitled8ve.png (http://imageshack.us)
I'm in the back, drowning.
The kayak was $460 (two-person), my mom wasn't too happy when I got home from the camping trip. I'd post more pics of us sinking, but my other friend taking the pic was a little slow getting out the camera and thats the best shot he got. You can see the yellow kayak underwater if you look closely enough; it was really hard to get out of. We had to swim almost a mile back to the dock. The water was 50 ft deep where we were and we couldn't retreive the kayak (surprise surprise). It was hystarical though, it was hard to swim from laughing so hard. The owners of the kayak didn't find it that funny, especially when we told them the life jackets choked us rather than keep us afloat and we left them in the middle of the lake :D .
Wibby

How the hell did you manage to sink a Kayak?
Oh and I just spent the past three days in Yellowstone so when I have some time I'll post some of the pics (I took like 150 or so pictures). Spent 35$ to spend 3 days in Yellowstone and Jackson Hole, had a whole lot of fun and the best part is that I'm gonna get college credit for it. So anyways when I get the time I'll put some pics up.

As I promised earlier some pictures of my trip to Yellowstone and the Teton Mountains.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a38/Wibby/100_0885.jpg
These first two are of the Teton Mountains. These are taken outside of the Jackson Lake lodge just south of the southern entrance to Yellowstone.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a38/Wibby/100_0889.jpg
This next one was taken on top of Inspiration Point (I kid you not). It was a two and a half mile hike up to here with the last hundred yards or two the trail was cut into the side of the cliff with no steps just granite to walk on. When we got up in the morning to go on the hike it was already raining. We decided to do the hike despite the rain and at 9:00 a.m. we started the hike. As time past the rain got harder and harder until all but 5 of us turned around. The person in the picture is a good buddy of mine who I took the class with. The funny part about it was that when we got to the top it quit raining, sort of like nature was only gonna let the "most worthy" get to the top :D . So all in all it was a five mile hike through the rain without much for rain gear, boy was I soaked. It started to rain again when we got back down to the vans and continued to rain throughout the day and the next day off and on (mostly on though).
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a38/Wibby/100_0969.jpg
This one is of a wolf howling. We stayed in West Yellowstone for the second night and we went to a Grizzly Bear and Wolf habitat. All the animals there would have been destroyed had this place not taken them in. I have some pictures of the Grizzly Bears and even a video with two of them playing around with each other.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a38/Wibby/100_1002.jpg
This one is of a buffalo that we saw when driving down the road. The only reason why I took a picture of it was that its friends had stopped us because they were crossing the road. And yes the door is open and yes It is dangerous to do that but it was my friend who happened to do it. Later that day on our final stop heading out of the park I almost saw a older couple get goared by a buffalo. She was 12 feet from them and taking pictures of another one not paying attention until the damn thing charged her. She got out of the way but she came within feet of being goared.
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a38/Wibby/100_1000.jpg
This last one is of the one thing beside the geysers that most people have seen from Yellowstone, the Upper Falls of Yellowstone. We were at the observation point about a mile or so down the road from the falls (I have pictures from the observation point above the falls as well). It's just a picture of the falls the river and the Grand Canyon of Yellostone (as they call it).
So that's just a couple of the pictures that I took on my trip to Yellowstone and the Teton mountains. It was a blast as the last time I had been to Yellowstone was almost 15 years ago so I really didn't remember much. My only problem was all the damn tourists (of course we probably looked like tourists as well) but I guess It's something that you have to put up with. If you want to see more then I might post more who knows.

So this not a picture of me doing stuff but that of my dad. I was along though.
So today (Sat. Oct 15) was opening deer season here in wy. I got up at 4 this morning to go hunting with my dad and older brother. Well anyways most of the day was spent walking around (yes in wy we walk not sit and jerk it in a tree stand) looking for animals to shoot. The only deer we could shoot was a buck with 4 points or better (meaning one side of the antlers has to have 4 points on it). Saw many does and fawns and a whole lot of bucks but with only 2-3 points on the antlers. As we are out walking my brother decides to go up a small hill (there were quite a few trees around) and then down a little ways into a canyon. My dad and I are off chasing some deer the opposite direction but it turned out that they were just a bunch of does.
We decide to head back to the truck and start to drive in the direction that my brother went when we saw him come running out of the trees. When he got to the truck he said he saw a pretty big buck (big campared to what we had seen all day) and he pointed us in the direction. We drove about a quarter mile down the dirt road when we got out to start walking.
About 30 feet into the walk (with me on the right my dad in the middle and brother on the left) I look over and see the deer running to our left. I click the safety off my rifle and start to look through the scope when I hear my dad fire his rifle. I decide that alright he fired then it's my turn (the deer were about 200 yard away) I take aim and let loose with my canon as my dad put it, but I was aiming too high. As I eject the shell and chamber another I bring the rifle up to my should and look through the scope just in time to see my dad fire and hit the deer in the back legs and break its back. I run back to the truck and drive it the 200 yards to where the deer fell and my brother and I go out and search for the other deer that was with this one. They were too small to shoot so I started to walk back and got to the deer just in time to see it thrash around and my dad put a bullet in its head killing it.
Well long story short this was the first big game animal we have gotten in the past 10 years mainly because we haven't hunted in those 10 years. The picture below is of my dad holding up his kill. I won't put the picture up just in case it offends someone to see a dead animal.

The day was a lot of fun and my brother and I are going out again monday morning so hopefully I will be able to add another picture or two to this. You can also see where the bullet my dad put into the deers head entered the skull just between its eyes on the white part of the snout. He was shooting a .243.

I had my hand hangin out there, but he missed me. Not that I'm a big Jeffie fan. But, hey! I had one hell of a time trying. LOL Had that been Jr.? Well, I probably woulda put the camera down to grab some skin.
BOttom line is, I had a hell of a time at the races. Not a lot of people get to get where I was. Not the pits, that's unique enuf as is, but my client that invited me down, owns a condo overlooking turn 2. That's freakin sweet!
So I hung out here....all three days I was there.

Mucho food, mucho drink. Very little women. Damn it. But having guys in Tuxedos carry your cooler upstairs for you was a pretty damn good perk for selling filters. :yaya:

I was going to rag on you about calling it Dallas motor speedway. but thought better of it.
I was going to head over there but wasn't feeling to good that day. I didn't feel like spending most of my time on a port-o-potty.
hope you had a good time AB.
My son-in-law was working in the pits all week. Didn't get to see many drivers but saw the drivers in the cars as they left and entered the pits. matter of fact he almost got run over by half of them at one time or another. He is a manager at UPS and was in charge of the Pit UPS package center.

Well fine then, replace tuxedoed men with naked women :) . It doesn't matter to me, all I wanted to know is if someone opened your beers for you seeing as how they carried your cooler for you.

So I spent yesterday and all of today at the lake. Didn't have a boat because the registration ran out and we forgot to renew it so it was mainly a dry, drunken adventure. Here are a few pics of it.

Here’s a pic of me doing a "beer Bong" outta a tropicana box at penticton lake British Columbia....(AKA Ogopogo Lake). We forgot our beer bong at the house in white rock (6 hours away) so a few guys went to the hardware store to get materials 2 make one, and well we got impatient and decided to make a temp one.... Worked like a charm

Dude, settle down. It's a animal that can be very dangerous and there were a lot of kids running around. Would you rather have had us let the snake run loose and bite a little kid?
Might I point out that you play a game where you get points for killing PEOPLE. I think thats a bit deal worse that killing a dangerous animal. So don't try and get all high and mighty on me boy.
