I found my old flight stick and throttle stick that Drayu sent to me years ago. I'd like to join my brothers in the air. What do I need to buy? What do I need to download? Is there room for another wingman in you guys' games?

just jizzed my pants. wont post the youtube video again hehe.

well, the base game is il2: 1946.

most of us have purchased it from steam, i think $10.

when you dl the game, it will be v 4.09m.

so you will want to go and dl and install in this order:

v. 4.10
v. 4.101
v. 4.11
v. 4.11 hotfix

although it looks long and tedious, most of the files are fairly small. an additional config file tweek will get you going.

if you dl these, would be glad to walk you thru on ts.

i think drayu spelled it out fairly well in this thread.
http://www.warishellgaming.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25841

(i see drayu added a nice pdf on install order for both disc and steam)

there are a couple of unintuitive bugaboos with setup that doing with drayu or I or lordbeer will sidestep nicely.

what flight stick will you use? drayu has a predone settings and config file that is a good point to start from.

anyway, will be on in a little bit.

awesome! Buying IL2 on Steam now and will DL the patches in order you specified Papasan. I have the Saitek X45 flight stick along with the throttle stick. But the throttle stick has the old serial connector and my pc doesn't have a serial port any more. So I'll probably skip that and just use the flight stick (USB).

Just a heads up but when you install the patches for IL-2, you'll have to install them in the main IL-2 1946 folder in Steam.

Steam\Steamapps\common\IL 2 Sturmovik 1946

You'll also need to get Tunngle going. It's a VPN program that makes connecting to each other MUCH easier.

http://www.tunngle.net/index.php?l=en&pg=downloads

You'll have to register a new account with Tunngle as well. There are some rather unintuitive graphics tweaks you'll probably have to do if you want wide screen. I figure we'll walk you though that on TS.

I look forward to having you join us Crotch. The learning curve is a tad steeper then most games but I'm sure your RC piloting skills will serve you well in IL-2.

what he said. i asked because drayu has everything saved and ready to dl for saitek x52. guess that wont help you tho. dunno if there is enough similarity that profile can be used.

somebody was trying to play without one last coupla nights. he was pretty successful but wound up digging one out.

i could not play it without one.

a simple/cheap one will go a long way. just something with a stick and throttle slider.

edit --- however, the gunner positions in the aircraft only require a mouse and one fire button. i did nothing but gun the first two nights i played.

editx2- dont sweat the bad resolution just following these instructions. there is a config file change needed to play in high resolution. will help with that in ts.

Cool! that was fun guys! Thanks for helping me set up and some basic flight tutorials. I can at least take off now. Landing, is a different matter. I'll be practicing and hopefully be joining you guys in a real mission soon!

awesome....and landing is overrated.

Yeah, only 10-15% of us make it back to land in any given mission. Definately not as important as getting off the ground safely. Likely to die or bail out before then.

Is there a POW simulator where you just sit around in prison doing nothing? :)

right, and a liferaft simulator.

the most unique bailout was... 2 nights ago major bailed out of his wrecked aircraft after a crashlanding at our airfield.

his pilot ran into a jeep on the airfield, the jeep backed up and went forward running into him killing him.

he made it out of his burning wreck only to get run over by a drunk gi. lololol

i have been playing this for most of the 8 years its been out and never saw that happen before.

hahahah! that's awesome and ironic that he was killed on the ground instead of in the air.

Yeah, we laughed hard over that one. I couldn't believe it! Our own ground forces were unimpressed with our flying apparently.

Damn it!!!! I'm missing out.

Redish, gunning in bomber is fun too. Sometimes I do it when I don't feel like dealing with flying. It a hoot.
