Anyone here going to get the Vita for portable gaming when it comes out in Feb? Technologically, it looks like a great system. As with any new system launch, there are some issues upon their launch in Japan recently. But the biggest gripe that I've read so far is the pricing of their proprietary memory cards. A standard 32GB micro sd card is around $30. Sony's proprietary micro memory card 32GB is $100!!!

For me, it's a decision I'm trying to make if I should jump in and pre-order or not. But given the less than stellar software support for the Xbox Kinect and Nintendo 3DS (both of which I jumped in at launch), I'm a bit leary about plunking down $350+ for the Vita and some games. I don't want to get :spank: again.

For those of us that don't know what a Vita was/is.

i have an issue with anything Sony, especially when they make "security" into costing the consumers, this memory-card thing is a perfect example of it, they said it's for security reasons, if they you know, actually secured the software itself instead of trying to shut down the hardware like they keep doing(and failing i might add) they wouldn't have to charge small fortunes for their devices.

OK rant over, am i getting one, no, do i recommend it, I'll have to say no as well, this has the wafting aroma of beta-tapes of it. now if they had it a little more open(IE didn't charge almost double market value for solid memory, when there are already perfectly fast enough and secure enough memory out there) it could be a good device.

it's definitely on a "wait" for at least a year or if there is some amazing killer app that only the PSV has that i deem is worth the investment.

Sony has been doing this for YEARS. Remember Betamax? Or the Memory Stick that looks like a, well, a stick. I have no idea why Sony keeps doing it.

because they hope(like blueray) that someone will make it a standard of some sort, and they can make millions off of licensing fees and artificially inflate the cost of competing products built off license.

same with MD, which was killed by solid state memory.

i still have my psp, it is an awesome bathroom machine, i usually play pinball on it.... i loved the umd ( but again i am a minidisc freak too, and you can have my betamax when you pry it from my cold dead hands! *L*) this seems a bit too expensive for what it is, although i welcome and actual games console not a phone prenting to be a console, although many people like to have everything combined i prefer keeping stuf fsegregated, if it means carrying a few things then so be it, in all honestly the phone is the one to get left behind *L* i would wait on this until it drops at least 50 or preferably a hundred, the good news is this will take over the psp so lots of psp games will be dirt cheap! honestly though the market for dedicated consoles is nearly dead, they will eventually when all the legal wrangling is sorted be a media center they almost are, your portable media device will also add to the entire system, they might even setit up like the new droid onlive where you can play your games on your portable media device... that is a number of years off though.

however, i may get one i nthe distant future just to show my great grandkids what we did for fun in the old days *L*
