It finally happened! On November 30th I will be moving from the jail to patrol.

The fools- giving Father Goose a patrol car and an AR-15 can spell NOTHING but disaster for the residents of Larimer County!! BWA HA HA HA HA!!

This is a huge step for me so I'm really, really excited about it.

Is that the rifle they got up under the hood of the inside of the car?

<3 Saur?

thought they kept a shotgun in the front, and larger weapons in the trunk.

Congrats! We now require a picture of father goose in uniform standing beside his patrol car with his gun out in a neat pose.

Ha ha, we'll wait on a picture until I have lost some more weight. I've been doing a lot of running to get in shape.

Our patrol officers carry both shotguns and AR15s. I have never shot either one but I am quite proficient with my pistol, so I'm looking forward to the training classes. Thinking about the ride alongs that I've done, I think that both weapons must be in the trunk because I've not bumped into either one.

You say you are abit heavy and you need to lose weight, come to Dallas you'd probably be considered in good shape  . Nothing like seeing a cops LARGE ASS hanging off the seat of the motorcycle ( probably got the bike cause they couldn't fit in the car) :yuck:, I feel for the bike having to haul 250-300 lbs around and that seems to be the norm. LOL, I have the greatest respect for cops because they do a job I couldn't ( Thank you Dallas crime lab and your pics of child abuse :upyours: ), I couldn't be fair in some cases and people would pay:wallbash: . Congradulations, thank you, and Good Luck.

Yeah. I finally realized that I hate fat cops, and oh s***, I AM one! Dammit! So I've been getting up at 3:30 to go for runs before work- 3 miles 3 times a week.

Me 'n my friend jeremy were comin' back from church one evening when to our horror we realized we wre out of gas. After pushing it over some railroad tracks we were happy to find a woman getting a ticket from the hi-po.

Went over there and asked'em if he'd take us back to town to refill our tank and in that car, on the hood inside, was a little rack that had a rifle of some sort. There was a shotgun slung around his driver seat.

So I don't think I'll be making my way down to Fort Collins anytime soon.

An AR-15!? You're a cop! Use your law enforcement status to get something with more stopping power than that silly .223. I recommend a FAL or G3-type rifle, though the civvy versions are probably more practical. I do apologize, though, I <3 larger caliber rifles. :hehehe: And yes, the AR-15s are traditionally stashed in the trunk. I guess the shotgun varies... in Monterey, CA (of all states) the cops kept theirs in between the driver and passenger seat, pointed upwards. Also mind your firing stance with the shotgun, it'll leave a nice bruise if it's not braced against your arm right.

BTW, the AR-15 is the civilian version of the M-16, which most non-gun nuts can recognize.

I think we use the AR15 because it has good long range accuracy but can also be used in CQB. Although it hasn't happened YET there is the possibility that we would have to return fire over a long distance. We have a lot of....er....hillbilly type empty space out here.

Last year somebody did have to use one. A "subject" who was barricaded in his house with his three other people (the kid, the daughter in law, and the grandkid- a family thing, ya know?) came to the door and set up a rifle on a bipod and started looking through the scope outside. I guess not everybody could see it because of his angle (I think he was set back a ways in the house), but one Sgt. could and fired a single round.

The sad thing is that the single round worked and the guy fell over, but he didn't die right then! We begged the people still inside to come out right away so we could get him to a hospital (which we later found out would probably have saved his life) but they wouldn't come out. They essentially let dad die in the front hallway.

Anyway. Enough talk about violent stuff. If I am like a typical Larimer County patrolman, most of my time will be spent on domestic violence, theft/break-ins, and at night, DUIs.

Congrats Father Goose, just dont shoot yourself in the foot while off duty :hehehe: It may sound funny, but my jackass of a cousin did this... got in mucho trouble too, as the gun was suppose to be locked up while off duty, I never got the full story, but yeah... Oh yeah, My brother is an officer of the law, and he does extremely well, he is also SWAT so I hear alot of stories, I got alot of respect for what you guys do

Yeah, well. We had one lady shoot herself in the hand while cleaning her gun (first rule of gun cleaning kiddos- remove the ammo from the weapon, DOUBLE check the gun, and then remove ALL ammo from the area!). The bullet went through and hit a neighbor's house!!

We had another lady leave her whole gunbelt on the trunk of her cruiser and drive off. First off, I can't really imagine why she had it off, second off, WTF? She then went home, changed, and went on vacation. A citizen found it! She claimed she didn't remember. Sigh.

See, it's sad-ass stuff like that that really makes it hard sometimes. I mean, cops are only human, but it's one thing to back into somebody's car at the donut shop, it's another to leave a deadly weapon un-secured. 98% of the people I work with are really dedicated professionals, but 2% just can't get their shizzle together.

At our last night-time firearms qualification, one lady shot at the wrong target! AAARRRGGH. Every round went into the wrong target.

Can you guys guess what's the common factor in all of the instances cited?

Ha ha ha, I love COPS. I will probably end up on the episode, "World's Stupidest Mistakes by Cops" or something.
