just so you know drinking exessive amounts of gatorade results in a depletion of the fluid that lubricates your joints you can get lots of oddball unexplained pains, i went through this while in the marines in 1988 fighting the forest fires in yellowstone park. gatorade was one of the drinks we had plenty of. it was not until the battalion surgeon noticed lots of reports of joint and cartilage pain that he made the connection we stopped drinking the crap and the pain stopped.

I used to race in a motorycycle racing team in the 100+ degree heat on the track. Our team drank a lot of Gatorade bc we bought their commercials. We all got soooo sick from drinking too much Gatorade. After that, all we drink is water.

Gatorade is good for dehydration. That much I do know. It's great for preventing hangovers. But water work just as fine as well.

It is LOADED with bad carbs too, mostly sugars to cover up the salt(electrolites) taste. If you drink it with out exercising, you will gaion MUCH weight.

Given a choice between water or gatorade. I will choose water 100% of the time.

I had a friend that drank tons of water while she was in Vegas and still ended up with dehydration. Doctor told her that she should have drank some Gatorade to help with other fluids that the body needed.

Basically it's the same with anything, everything is good in moderation.

Here's some quick info....

If you want all the benefits of gatorade with none of the nasty side effects (because wihadmin is right, it's not as good as its made out to be) then drink a 1:4 orange juice:distilled water solution.

Gatorade's bad sugars, as some have pointed out, makes the gastric valve operate a little slower so the chime in your stomach (and the nutrients shiftin' around in it) don't get absorbed as fast as they need to be. Plus, it's glycemic index is through the roof -- so youl'l end up losing energy :( Gatorade does offer some electrolyte recovery, but because of it's shipping methods -- ya gotta go w/ the newegg.com equivalent of diluted oj.

also, even for endurance athletes, 25% protein mixture will help strength, endurance, recovery for the duration of the work out :D

EDIT: These would be considered IRL tweaks though, I know some of you like to play IRL right out of the box (womb) but I, for one, like to customize :D
