Steam, Origin, PSN, Xbox Live nicks in Profile

I do not know if vBulletin® has this capability but I thought it might be a good idea, since we always seem to be exchanging nicks on gaming networks, to have a section for that in your profile.

User CP -> Edit Your Details

Within this section:
"Optional Information - All information will be viewable by other forum members."


I propose adding a section called:
Game Networks

Within you can put the more popular gaming networks we all participate in.

To name a few:
Steam
Origin
Playstation Network (PSN)
Xbox Live (XBL)
X-Fire

This way people don't have to create lists for games within these networks. Only for games that have individual friend lists such as Company of Heroes though maybe THQ will also be going to an online based social network for their games. If that happens then we just add the THQ field in the "Gaming Network" section of the profile.

So... is there a way to do this?

When you click on the person's nick it takes us to their profile where we see...
Visitors Messages, About Me, Statistics, Friends & Contact Info

The information would be listed under Contact Info tab.
There is a subsection shown already that says Instant Messaging if something is listed in that field.
Under that could be another subsection that says, Gaming Networks
So if someone wishes to share their PSN, Origins or whatever nick and there is a field asking for it it would show up there for any member to see.

Also you could put the icon in the left side panel where the current Instant Messaging icons show up. Take Drayu's for example where his Yahoo Messenger shows up. That's also where the Gaming Networks show up. Just need original icons for them which I'm sure already exist somewhere.

It would be easier to search for plugin that's already been created if there is one. But knowing you Drayu you could probably figure out how to do it from scratch. :D

I've implemented this. Here are some notes.

Notes:
1) For showing the PSN GamerCard, users must do the following:
US: Login to us.playstation.com -> My Profile -> Portable ID -> Generate Portable ID.
EU: Login to eu.playstation.com -> My Account -> My Portable ID -> Generate Portable ID.

2) For showing the Steam GamerCard, users must do the following:
Login to steamcommunity.com -> Edit my Profile -> Copy the text from the "Custom URL" box into the Steam ID field.
* Steam GamerCard is not official and generates from steamcard.com and steamprofile.com.
Note: Steam postbit pop-up page now support real Steam ID which is: STEAM_X:X:XXXXX.

3) XFIRE mini profile & EU PSN images will be resized with mouse hover.

4) You can use these optional Regular Expressions (regex) for the fields:

XBOX Live Gamertag: ^([A-Za-z0-9 ]+)?$
PlayStation Network ID: ^([A-Za-z0-9-_]+)?$
Wii Friend Code: ^([0-9]{4}[- ][0-9]{4}[- ][0-9]{4}[- ][0-9]{4})?$
XFIRE Username: ^([a-z0-9]+)?$
Steam ID: ^([A-Za-z0-9-_]+)?$ (this regex is for Custom URL only)

I checked for Origin a couple of weeks ago and they still dont have anything. I'll look again. If you find something, let me know.

I don't know what you have to put in the Steam ID box for it to work. I've tried my user name, the numbers at the end of the URL, my community ID (found by using steamidfinder.com), but nothing works. Every time I go to my profile and click the steam image that shows up, steam tells me "The specified profile could not be found."

I put in kilroy0097 in that field and it loads up fine when I look at my profile in the forums and shows STEAM in my GamerID's at the left there.
Also added Xfire and PSN to it. Seems like they all show up and populate correctly.

According to that link Gifts, demos or free games don't count.

And of course activating my origin games through steam, which would lift the limited status, doesn't work because EA doesn't want us using steam now that they have their own version.

I'll have to check to see if Guild Wars is on Steam.

EDIT: Nope. Doesn't work because it's not on 'the list'

Opposing Force CD-keys cannot be registered through Steam. Opposing Force was included in a retail Half-Life package. The Half-Life CD-key included in the package will unlock all of the games in that package, including Opposing Force.

Note: Only the retail games listed above can be registered through Steam. No other retail games can be registered and downloaded using Steam.


I never did like Steam, nor the idea behind Steam. First it was buying games physically in store only to be forced to download them through Steam anyways. Now you can't even really use Steam without either buying something online or that happens to be on their list.
