It has absolutely nothing to do with the client's browser type or what features it possesses. The only thing that matters is how the web servers (namely Apache) deals with directory indexing. Placing an index.html in a directory full of files you don't want others to see under default Apache settings means that browsing to the directory will not get you a list of the files inside but instead force redirect you to the index.html

If you put a password in the .htaccess file for security it would prevent you from linking any of the pictures anywhere outside of the apache's domain of authority. The nice thing about this is under normal circumstances is that password protected images can still be sourced through other web pages on the webserver and displayed properly because apache bypasses the .htaccess file when referencing the directories itself.

Moral of the story: Firefox gets you not special access to directory listings that IE does not currently have.

What is sad is that the hit detection vs whatever other bullshit was transparent to the discussion at hand. It had no bearing on the conversation or any effect on what was being talked about because in the end different parts of different game objects were more vulnerable than others. I don't know what *exactly* it is that you are referring to about the FTP access. Just like the users I babysit at work do you've offered a vague description of something you've either seen done before, done yourself before, or worse yet heard about someone else doing before. I'll address it quickly as best I can...

Without a login/password you can access some FTP servers anonymously. FF does not allow you to access an FTP server without using the anonymous account unless you have that information. If you have been given access to a specific FTP directory through a login/pass you can access that directory and then move upward out of it and into the directory structure of the entire system which you are on. This is the case with some but not all FTP servers... as the default FTP services on many Linux distros offer a very vanilla and not-so-secure FTP server which is already installed. There are FTP applications out there though that will create a sandbox which you can confine users to and keep them out of the rest of the system... but not all servers have this...

If you want to be more specific then so will I. I use FF regularly and I love it... but it doesn't have any increased functionality over IE that relates to FTP or directory browsing.

as far as FTP access is concerned, the FF FTP client is far more feature full then the IE ftp client(which you should be aware of).

We weren't talking about which one has "more features" we were discussing how FF might have some mysterious means of hacking an FTP into magically letting you get to other directories.

I'm dropping the FTP conversation though because:

A) I'm at home now and not at work... meaning I'm not getting paid to discuss it.
