Server will be running 2 rounds per map starting today after the 5P server reboot. We'll keep an eye on the server to see if it can make it thru 1 full map rotation before crashing.

alot of people like Kubra, but last night when clean sweep came up, well lets just say, it went from 64 to 54 real fast, but it did fill up towards the end, I'd say let ig and see what happens, gives some people a time for a bathroom break :hehehe:

Make the most of Clean Sweep and Kubra Dam---------------
Clean Sweep I agree can start out boring, but make it a challenge by getting your squad to the MEC hangers and fighting/defending those two flags.
Kubra Dam has unlimited action on the two top right flags. Try using Spawn off squad leader tactics to take these flags and hold them.
No reason to take them or any map out of rotation. As much as I hate Shongua Stalemate.

Or we can run 16 player map size of Clean Sweep with 64-players. :) That way it'll be quick and furious!

One thing at a time young padawan. If the server is stable with 2 rounds per map for a day or 2, then we'll change the maplist for CleanSweep.

Played on a server last night that was running a 2 round rotation. Sort of messed with my head at first since I am used to the 3 rounds but it wasn't bad. Makes those hated maps go by 1 round faster.

The second game is usually better then the first. I always get into the game later then some and all the choppers and jeeps are gone, and if I ever did want to do command for a round ( witch I really dont) I miss the chance to apply. Sometimes even the first few flags have been captured already.
All in all two rounds is a better set up I think. But running clean sweep and stalemate on 16 player maps for a few fast rounds would be a great way to mix things up.

So how did the 2-rounds per map work out for you guys last nite?

08-05-2005, 09:23 AM
Not too bad. I enjoyed the fact that the server only had 1 round per map. Although I can live with 2. Especially if something is done with Shongua and Clean Sweep.
I noticed that the second round is much more smooth as well. Perhaps due to the server memory not having to load the map again?

Did the server make it thru at least 1 full map cycle before crashing? My concern is that with 2 rounds per map, we will never get to play some maps due to the crashing problem.

as my locked post said, it crashed last night about 9pm, I can't remember which map because it was within 1 minute of loading in. but I THINK the last map we played before that was the Demo map, Omaha Beach or whatever you call it.
it was right after Knottwobad and Groovey logged

it got really laggy about 10:30-10:45pm CST last night. I don't know it it had anything to do with 2 map rotation. But i like the 2 map rotation. less time waiting to play.

I noticed that sometimes when the server crashes and it comes right back, it'll crash again within a few minutes on the first map. Is this a correct observation?
I think that the system doesn't have enough time to recover resources after the crash before restarting the game process. So when the server comes back online, it crash again shortly after.

Sorry didn't get a chance to play it, I've been busy and letting my roommates play on their accounts. This game has officially turned my bedroom into the living room :).
Over the weekend I'll be around and hopefully have few solid straight hours to play on WiH.

usually when it crashes we seem to get through the first map after the crash quickly due to the retarded team stacking that the game does i do not recall experiencing another crash shortly after any crashes

Suggestion make Strike at Karkhand to a size 32.

From what I see it crashes around maps 4-5. I'm getting so tired of playing the oilfields. In 2 1/2 hrs it has crashed 2x's tonite, both times on Dragon Valley.

5pm was server restart.
may I ask that you change up the rotation of the maps? (KarKand 1st?) Because of the server crashes we wind up playing the same maps. also can you change the maps rotation so a city map is every other map? people seem to like city maps more.
Also I haven't played FuShe Pass in for ever. Any way you can move it up in the rotation.
Just a request/suggestion
Thanks

The problem with putting a good map first is that the teams are screwed up after a server restart. BF2 autobalance doesn't work. It'll fill up 1 team first and then fill the second team. So it's a waste of a good map.
I'll see about changing the rotation, but there's only 3 city maps, so we can't have it every other map.

that's ok because with the server crashes we only play about 6 maps between crashes anyway :)
BTW we know you have nothing to do with the crashes so don't take it personal. I would ask EA for a discount on the next bill, because of this though.
Oh BTW again. Thanks for the server.

I was wondering if we'll ever go thru the entire map cycle with 2 rounds per map.
We gotta live with this crashing until v1.03, which comes out at end fo August. Hopefully they will fix all the crashes. Until then do you guys want to go back to 1 round per map?

I just hope we can keep all the good maps that were put back into rotation.

I like it either way. I dislike playing the same 4 maps over and over again. Maybe just a rotation shuffle will help?
Keep Dragon Valley and the 3 city maps near the front. Maybe move Fu She back into/earlier up in the rotation? I notice that Shongua, Zatar, and Clean Sweep seem to be the most disliked.

songhua, zater, and clean sweep is currently at the bottom of the map cycle. Dragon valley and the city maps are at the front or near the middle. Fushe is out of rotation since we've had a lot of crashes on that map alone.

I know you wanted to set up the server to maximize new player interest, but i think we have a good batch of players now, and it is always full. Now maybe the time to play some 32 player maps with 64 players, or even like a 16 player stalemate and i'll explain why. With 1 round per map we get through the rotation most of the time, with 2 rounds we do not. I think that WiH now has a large enough fan base that even if you went with a 16 or 32 player stalemate the server will still stay populated and increase the odds of getting all the way through the rotation. I know that I do not filter out small or medium maps when i look for WiH, I just type it in the filter. WiH may now be popular enough that people will ask for it by name and not just look for a large map server with a low ping.
So in summary I suggest keeping 2 rounds, making stalemate with 16 player map the 1st in rotation. that would be interesting :yaya:
Just my 2 Poopsticks.... err cents

At this point in time, we're not worried so much about attracting players, but rather we worry about the stability of the server. Afterall, we can't attract new players if the server continually crash. It has proven to us again and again in the past and a simple change in the .con file will cause the server to crash a lot. We'll see what we can do, but we'll always fall back to a stable server over features or map cycle.

I'd throw a poll up but its not really my place.
I'd vote 6-maps / 2 rounds per map as the map cycle. I get the feeling alot of the community would enjoy this. You could then just change the maps ever day, or every other day, its pretty easy to do that as well.
Heck knowing the way the scripts are ... when you reboot the server 2x you could have it write a new map cycle in that way 1/2 the day is maps 1-6 and the other 1/2 day is maps 7-12.
Is map voting on? then you could put on map voting so other maps could still have an option to be played.
These are all suggestions to help the fact for now(at least until 1.3) that would allow the server have 2-maps per round since it can't get through all maps for the time being.

It's not as easy as you think. Since, it's a ranked server, every change has to be submitted to our provider, who then makes the change on the server at a scheduled time. They're not going to write a custom script just for 1 server out of hundreds that they rent out.
Merlinex
08-08-2005, 11:57 AM
Wow that sucks.
Not that it matters, but out of curosity do you have submit just change map cycles manually? Or to turn on map voting? Those two options would still give WiH some more flexibility on what could be done in regards to maps.

The problem with voting enabled is always the spam. Whether it's mutiny, player kick, OR map change. I'm sure this is a major reason they have it shut off in the first place.

I do prefer 2-rounds to 1 though personally. Even if it means that I can only play 1/2 the maps.

Yes. Every change is a support ticket submission to the provider. If it's already known that the change is kosher with EA, then they do it. If not, they have to ask EA for approval.

We've tried having voting all twice. Both times, the votes were just spammed all to hell without any kind of results. So we shut it off.
