I posted about my first 5k (http://www.warishellgaming.com/forums/showpost.php?p=318274&postcount=1) last January and wanted to give you an update on my running. I've been doing 5k runs since Dec of 2009.
Last Sat I ran my first 10k. (10k=6.2 miles)
Finished 44th of 49 in my age group & 276th of 334 males overall. Time: 1:03:08 Pace: 10:10
My son-in-law & daughter have been running 5 & 10k's and got me into it. It's more then just going out and running a race. Depending on the race they have free food, beer, hot chicks in spandex :hehehe: , live bands, etc. So it's a great way to spend quality time with the family. Plus it gives you a way to gauge your progress on staying in shape.
btw -in my first 5k I finished in ~47mins. My current personal record, a year later is 27:55. The guys that usually finish first have a time around 15 or 16 mins. Guys a lot younger then me! :D
I dont post this to boast. I think you all might find it interesting and maybe consider doing it too. It's never to late to start you know. I'm even starting to plan/train for a triathlon!
Check out this crazy race I'll be doing in May. It's a combination 5k & obstacle course! It's called the Warrior Dash (http://www.warriordash.com/register2011_georgia.php). :woot:
