View Full Version : Question for commanders

I like to play a utility role as needed by the team. Medic, support, engie.. doesn't matetr. But I also love to snipe and treat it like an art form. When sniping, the larger part of my deaths come from my not paying attention, the helicopter above me, or falling off a cliff/roof/what-not trying to reach a new area. It is hardly ever from another sniper.

Last night I watched the most amazing comeback yet where the opfor had 1 control point and regained the map to finally lose by only 2 points. This was done with the commander using the arty to take out single players like me. He got me twice with it.

I honestly have to give the other side credit and can not offer it to the commander since 4 out of 5 arty strike got single players. Is this something that commanders normally do? Or was it just more like revenge since I did put a bullet in his head before each kill?

Note: I do not really desire to take the command role at this time but have a curious mind. It seems senseless to me when he could have sent a couple guys up the hill with launchers or what not.

when playing as commander the only time i would single out a sniper is when there is no way to be effective on another target which happens more on city maps, or if there is someone sniping a flag that is a vehicle/air spawn but not otherwise populated with friendlies

I dont play commander that often but I sure will drop a strike on a single sniper.. They may not be my first choice but I will do it if I see no other targets.

I know it can be hard to get up to where the sniper is at because of claymores and maybe my team can't see/find him. Why waste a UAV to point him out? If he's not moving, I'll just send him a care package in the 155mm size.

I guess I should note that Im not real good at leading with the arty strikes. It's a lot easier to hit a stationary target.

Vaild points guys. Thanks for answers. Helps me understand the commander logic a little. :)

It is not always difficult to get to the snipers. More times then not, I have found that being in the open and easily accessible has been more effective then trying to find that so called perfect spot. Example = 1 of the city maps I will lay on the side of the road right near our spawn point (think it is Karkand where the US has the 3 spawns at 1 end that form the "V"). That is not hard to find at all. but alas, that is a huge Arty landing zone and I normally get tossed to the other side of the map after a couple kills.

On maps like such as the one with the huge oil storage tanks... if I don't have any good chopper pilots I will usually arty snipers near the center flag who are receiving supply drops regularly. Snipers there can go a long way towards securing that point and should be eliminated at any cost.

There are numerous situations though where I'd consider dropping arty on a lone sniper... especially when you think about how artillery is hard to use because your friendlsy are drawn to it likes moths on a flame.

Save yourself the negative teamwork points from TKs... and ruin a snipers day.

I've run across this when sniping as well. The thing is, a good sniper can take 10-15 tickets in a few minutes from the opposing team. I thought it was laughable as well till I looked at it from this point of view.

a rather low percentage of snipers will actually get up and re-locate when they hear arty.

it's kinda sad.

i've targeted snipers on several occasions for reasons similar to monos'. i'd rather get a point for killing one person than loosing points for killing teammates. besides, sniper are a pain in the but. why not be the same to them.

You do not get points for kills as Commander. You get them for flag caps and responding to requests like supply drops. I got 22 kills one map very few flag caps and my team won 207-0 and I got like 20 points mostly from UAV request and supply drops. A really good commander with good squads will get crap for points.

Remember you can always get more points in a good squad or a Helo so don't play Commander for points only to help your team win.
