So after watching this trailer, who is interested in making a Shogun2 clan and doing some Coop conquering of Japan? :) I think we've got the Total War talent to do it! :D

The intro movie is really cool. The historical battle they give you is pretty damn hard. I dig the graphics but it seemed a bit choppy when zoomed in. Meh.. I think every Total War demo ran a bit rougher then the actual release.

I do enjoy this much more so than the empire, though i am biased towards the hand to hand fighting style. the battle is a bitch lost both tries so far, also the campaign map demo bit is nice too. im gonna get this game for sure too.

Hellcat
02-24-2011, 03:22 PM
Yeah, the demo battle is almost a certain loss, though I do have an idea on surviving it by pulling all my troops back on defense.

Still, this is a must buy!

So who's forming the clan? I will join, although I will miss musketry.

Anyone have any tips on how you setup fights and what's rock and paper?

Hellcat
03-02-2011, 12:40 PM
Glad to hear you're interested Grim!

I think I'll probably set it up in conjunction with everyone here though :). Not sure on setting up fights or whatever, we'll have to figure that out though.

We should do some research on their forums regarding how that mode will work.

Okay, I'll be setting up the Clan for WiH as soon as I can on Tuesday, however it's my wife's birthday so I may not get to it until later that night. I'll also pop-up a username thread depending on how that works.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what we should call our clan? Again, this is a clan in the game terms, not a clan in the counterstrike terms :).

Ugh, well tonight didn't go well for me, but I've learned one thing. Your general is the most important unit on the battlefield. Make sure he doesn't route. I've lost two games where we had them outnumbered and were going in for the kill, but the general was dead, so somehow they got all of our units to route at once. REALLY FRUSTRATING! But I'm pretty sure it's not a bug. If I had my general I'd have been able to avoid the issue... Anyway, if you have the game, make sure to join the clan and fight battles so we can take some territory.

Grim_Scythe
03-17-2011, 10:25 AM
Yeah I will play a round or two been playing SP of homefront and Shogun 2 too.

Also, they really made Generals super important in terms of morale its usually game if they get your general. Also there is apparently an exploit going on in MP http://forums.totalwar.com/showthread.php/10137-Cheats-Abusing-Funding-limits-in-match-made-Games So if you see that happening in your MP game save replay and email CA Also for any tips for MP: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=434030

Oh another thing this is sorta a big issue as if you get this trait you can't gain any clan points etc

Somehow ppl are getting the dishonourable coward trait for no reason after wins

Tried out a few 1v1 battles for the glory of the clan. 2 wins and 3 losses. I should of had 3-3 but one dude rage quit after he ran his general into my front lines while unsupported. Douche. The losses were against level 10 guys so I dont feel too bad about them. Anyway, I conquered 2 provinces.

LordBeer

3 more territories have been acquired. Had some good battles last night and a few more level 10 encounters.

1 of the battles has an interested story. I saw the guys army on the other side of the map. He had everything perfectly setup on the side of a mountain. It was easy to tell that he was going defensive and wasnt coming off the mountain. I was quite alright with that after looking at his army. I figured I could crack him. So I carefully started marching my guys across the map. Just as I get setup just outside of archery range, he starts chatting. He was a pretty cool guy and we must of chatted 10mins before combat started. I thought it might be a form of deception (I'd be typing and he'd charge down) but nothing shady happened. It seemed kinda authentic with generals speaking to each other before the fighting. It was cool and I did win that fight. :woot:

Lots of level 10 fights though.. This one guy had a veteran cannon he named The Rod of Zeus. A very accurate cannon.. It sniped out my general mid battle.

I've come to the conclusion that I need more morale reducing weapons and retainers. I've had a lot of trouble facing armies using the Fugu Chef guy. It causes -2 morale for opposing troops. So I'm working on some very accurate bow samurai with whistling arrows that induce fear. My general also has an aura of fear around him as well. This should help our 2v2 and 3v3 battles in the future. :dgrin:

I've also decided that I need some troops with firearms. There are quite a few guys using them effectively to cover flanks and to aid those warrior monk guys with bows. While you are shooting the monks, the Arquebus troops rush in and shoot your bows. They moved like lightening and one barrage was enough to really mess up my bow samurai.

Anyway, my general is a level 4 now and he's itching to fight more. I should be on tonight for some battles

Hellcat
06-25-2011, 08:14 PM
I'll be around tonight. I had less success than you though. It feels like I am very frequently being routed by monk guys. I really do need to do something about the Fugu Chef as well. I'm currently rushing for that province so I can at least level the playing field.

LordBeer

Had a very bad run earlier. I think I lost 5 in a row. Should of won one of them but I forgot to bring in all my cavalry. It's becoming a bad habit of mine. I hide some cav on the sides for a surprise flank, but I get to caught up in micro managing on the frontline that I forget about them. Doh!

I managed to get the Naginata Monks but have not been having luck with them. I MUST get the Monk Archers. I had a lvl 10 just make me look like an ass because he could out range the hell out of my guys. My archers were at 50% by the time they could fire back at them.

Just picked the game up off of steam for $30. I'll have to check out this whole clan thing.

We'd love to have you. Hellcat might have to get you setup in the clan. Just be ready to get whooped at first. The only two level 1 guys I've fought were in my first two battles. 29 battles later, I've yet to fight one..

It might be a good idea to start up a single player campaign to get used to the units. Although I know Hellcat and I would be happy to have you join us in some 3v3 or 4v4 battles.

As for the clan's conquest of japan.. I only fought 2 last night. 1st one I lost to a level 10 who referred to me as a,
'Fucking Noob' after blasting me with Monk Archers and Grand Cav. Jackass.. I was about to tell him GG before he insulted me.

The second fight was against an 8 but I beat him. I honestly think he lost because of some big mistakes he made. I dont feel he lost because of my skill. For some reason he sent his 3-4 units of cav on the far ends of the map. I went up the gut straight at him and he never brought in his cav until it was too late. :dunno:

I picked up that clan expansion back for Shogun since it was on sale for $3. I picked up some really nice units in that pack. Naginata Nuns which have awesome attack, defense, and moral stats. Only catch with them is there are only 75 people in a unit compared to 120. The Naginata Monk Heroes came in the pack but they cost 1700 to field.. I doubt I'll use them. Final unit was some Naginata Monk Calvary. These guys kick ass. Their charge isnt great but their attack more then makes up for it. Their attack is like katana samurai but much better defense. These guys can charge in and you can leave them in the fight. First time I used them they alone racked up 150+ Kills. Wonderful troops and they cost the same as Yari Cav. Only real downside with them is that they have almost no armor. So ranged troops will cut them to pieces.

I've been reading some reports and it seems that others are having similar problems. It seems that the leader board is down. If it's not working then neither are clan wars. It would be nice if the support forums worked for Shogun but they're still down following a hack on their servers. So official news is non existent.

Until I hear otherwise, I'm just going to work on beefing up my troops. 3 wins before I'll get Bow Monks.. Ugh.. I can't wait! Although I did manage to mangle a level 9 with monks. :) He was micro managing his monks so much he missed my cav that I microed in to get 'em. :woot:

Nice play Beer, nice play! I have been working across the map to get everything I can. Our clan page says we have 8 provinces, so that's something at least :).

LordBeer

It updated some of the wins and it now looks like we might be going up a tier. :woot:

LordBeer
07-11-2011, 06:02 PM
Yeah we ranked up. :) The new tier looks to be very active. Several clans have taken territory and it's been going less then a day.

Had some wonderful fights last night. Matchmaking set me up against 3 in a row who were not lvl 10. One 8, and two level 2 guys. I did not demolish them but my new General upgrades seem to help. I finally got the aura of fear thing so low moral units will break much faster. I barely have to flank a formation to get it spooked if my general is near.

I did get a lot less XP for the lower tier wins though. I think I maybe got 100xp for each of them. I've gotten almost 300 for a loss against the level 10 guys. I guess it really shouldnt be much of a surprise.

I'm also starting to rethink my bow monk strategy. I'm almost thinking about upgrading one of my Samurai bowmen and giving him extra range. The armor on the samurai seems to be able to take a decent amount of hits.

I also read about a decent strategy to use. Katana Cav have some pretty decent armor. Rush them out in front of your bowmen to draw the fire of enemy bowmen. While they shoot at the cav, move your bowmen into range. :dunno: It sounds good but I still lack Katana Cav in my army.

LordBeer

That would be great Grim. We could use the help. This new tier we're in is very active. Like the video says, it's easier to take land next to land the clan already owns. Good luck out there.

Had a bad run last night. 4 losses and some were against lower level guys. I'm done with Bow Cav by the way. Seems pretty useless to me. Hopefully tonight goes better. I try to alternate my fights between clan territory and upgrades for my troops.

Any suggested comps as a level 1 ? i won't have much to use other than ashigaru spears and bows

LordBeer
07-14-2011, 02:42 PM
I wouldnt bring a lot of Yari. I'd bring more Loan Sword guys. Their attack is just so much better then the Yari. Ashigaru will run quickly when their numbers start getting cut down.

Although, you'll need a Yari or two in order to counter any Cav charge.

LordBeer
07-15-2011, 06:13 PM
Ugh my loosing streak is over. (I wont say how bad it got) I managed to get 1 for me and 1 for the clan. I finally got my hands on the Katana Cav. They rock and are pretty hard to kill with arrows.

Managed to get 1 piece of land for the Clan. We're now in 2nd place with a couple days left. I only see one piece of unclaimed land near us. I'll try to snag it after I grind out my tanks.

Also, it appears that sea territories do count for the clan wars. This kinda sucks. I've neglected my navy and they're pretty much stock. :( Last naval match I did was the most lopsided battle ever..

Looks like another clan is up by six territories in order to move to the next clan tier. I think there may be six free territories that we could capture to tie them, but we're running out of time to successfully push them back. Anyway, just letting everyone know. If I can I'll hop on tonight to cap some territories.

Out of curiosity has anyone encountered a loan sword ashigaru spam army? OR even use one? is it that scary?

I've seen one or two. It wasnt that scary. The guy charged at my archers on the other side of a river. He ignored my main force and I had routed one formation of his before they crossed the water.

I would not recommend spamming one type of unit unless it's Great Guard Cav. Which brings up a second point, make sure you have some spears to counter anyone who brings a Cav Spam.

Grim_Scythe
07-19-2011, 03:53 PM
Well usually the standard LSA spam army :

2x yari-cav
2x bow-cav
2x katana-cav
2x yari-ashigaru
8x loan sword-ashigaru
3x matchlock-ashigaru

Typical LSA spam build.

LordBeer

Ohh, I see Grim. I was thinking of a small fund army. I've never fought a Loan Sword spam army in higher fundage fights.

Yeah that would be pretty deadly I'd imagine. You'd have enough guys to envelope the enemy and crush their morale.

The nerf is on the way..

http://forums.totalwar.com/showthread.php/21147-Heavy-Gunner-%28worth-it%29/page3

Hi guys. Quick update:

The Heavy Gunners were clearly overpowered, so we’re reducing their penetration value, which means their shots will no longer pass through a line of troops. They’ll still be useful against buildings, and still considerably better than basic matchlocks, but this should make a lot more balanced, notably so in multiplayer.

We don’t have an exact timeframe for the fix as we’re still testing, but it shouldn’t be more than a few days.

Thanks!

Craig

Crap.. Gotta have fun with those guys NOW!

Bow Monks, Grand Cav, and Heavy Gunners! Muhahaha! I'm also getting kinda attached to my Mounted Gunners. They run with the cav and help support my Grand Cav. With some reload upgrades, they've killed as much as the Heavy Gunners. It's wonderful to flank with them during cav vs cav stuff.

My gaming time has become kinda limited so I havent marched my army into battle for awhile. I got a little discouraged in the single player after the 'split' happened in the campaign, but the gameplay is solid. I think it's the best of the Total War games to be released.

It should look absolutely stunning on your new rig Crotch.

I tried the demo last nite and I have to say that on the highest graphic setting, it looks fucking amazing! While I really like the previous TW games, playing the demo reminded me of the time commitment that is needed to play and enjoy this game. It certainly isn't a game that I can pick up and play for 30 minutes. I think I'm going to pass on Shogun 2 in favor of the Dawn of War: Retribution game. That one seem more action oriented and I might be able to get a battle done in 30 minutes.

Thanks guys for the offers to help me out with Shogun 2!!!

The Shogun 2 clan has been on the warpath since Fall of the Samurai was released. Brendon, Crimson, and I have been fighting all comers while doing well in the process. So with the new expansion do they make the naval battles more they are in empire? I ask this because I liked the naval battles in empire but absolutely hate them in shogun 2.

LordBeer
04-13-2012, 04:40 PM
I'd say the naval battles are closer to Empire vs Shogun 2. Although I'd really say the naval battles are distinct from either. You really need to micro every ship in my opinion to do well. Fighting Ship of the Line style doesnt work well for me in Fall of the Samurai. I try to bring as many guns to bear on a single target as quickly as possible, set em on fire, and move on. It's a hell of a lot better then Shogun 2's naval combat. That really did suck. Especially while fighting online.. WTF will my archers do against a lvl 10 guy with cannons on his ship!?!? Brendon, Crimson, and I were only level 2-3s and we beat that lvl8's ironclad with the starter ships. Huzzah!

It helps that you get to use the ships cannons for naval bombardments while in a land battle. You can also use them to damage cities, farms, mines, and ports. It makes an invasion soo much easier.
