Well for Christmas I was lucky enough to get a new Driving Wheel and I noticed a few things in GT5 that I figured I better share. The default setup for a wheel is garbage and must be changed. Go into the options menu and select the settings for your wheel. Change it to Simulation.
There is some setting in the default/novice setup that is just horrible. It tries to help you correct a slide by auto turning in the opposite direction. I've found this to be unacceptable. If you try to turn with it, you'll easily over correct and the wheel just fights you in the other direction leading to a crash. In my opinion it really negates the purpose of having a wheel. I like to 'feel' how much traction I have. When the wheel goes all Exorcist on me, I completely loose that feeling.
I know they're arent a lot of GT5 peeps but if it helps one WiH member then..
I use the logitech g25. I love this Driving Wheel But when you go to settings there is a million other wheels i have never heard of. So i can only use the default setup to change a few things. I would have liked to be able to change throttle response and stuff like that.. But ohh well another bug in the system.. :)
Thanks for the help anyways Beer!!

Definitely thank you Beer! I had left it on novice, so I never realized that it was trying to over-auto correct. That makes a lot of sense on some races where I was losing control and couldn't figure out why!

I kinda figured that's what was happening to you Hellcat. I was getting really disappointed in my wheel and figured there was something that needed changing. I'd had a wheel before and used it quite well in Nascar 2003 and GT Legends. I didnt remember it going all berserk on me in those games. I was looking like a bit of a jackass trying to race online!
Now that I have that figured out, I'm slowly working on getting more golds in the license tests. It would be nice to get a little closer to Tavs and his impressive collection.
Oh yeah Tavs, I'm a little saddened to see the new 'official GT5 Wheel'. I bet that is why support for the G25 & G27 is lacking. $600 for a damn wheel?!?!

also, do you really need an electric motor strong enough to torque someones shoulder out of the socket(65W motor) ?

Looks weak? It isnt even going to ship with a shifter. It's shipping with an IOU basically.

Thank you for posting the video Kilroy. I wish it was more of a review but.. Oh well.
The price of this wheel reminded me of the epic story involving a man buying a car for $500 on Craigslist, entering it in the FIA Mexican rally, and beating $400k cars with it.

No the clutch is not supported for GT5.
I got the Driving Force GT wheel and man is it a great thing. The only down side I have with the whole unit is that the pedals feel a tab bit too plastic-y, but that might just be me. Another thing that I did not know about this wheel is that it needs a platform/table for it. I thought it was a lap wheel. I had to jimmy rig some milk crates and a plank of wood to make something that works. The wheel is a great piece of equipment for GT5.
One of the coolest things about the wheel is that it has this red dial in the semi-middle that allows you to change your car settings on the fly mid face. So let's say that you want to increase your traction control after you realized you need it, you can push a button on the wheel and use the dial to increase it. You can change the settings of the Trac, ABS, brake, AWD wheel ratios, and some other thing that I never change.
The feed back on the wheel is also great, for me I kept mine on a setting of 2, anything higher than that made the wheel just too stiff. I would change if but my bootleg platform can't handle the torque of me turning the wheel.
Bonus feature of the wheel is that the middle button of the wheel acts as the horn.
Also my PSN is Maj_Fox7rot so add me and we can do some races.

Hadnt realized you raced in GT5 Fox. I sent a friend request earlier today.
On topic though. How do you guys take pics with the wheel connected? I was unable to control the camera because it lacked the two directional sticks. I tried to get one of the PS3 controllers working when I noticed this but it was unresponsive within Photo Mode. :dunno: Should I activate the controller before plugging in the wheel? Anyone else run into this problem?
I was hoping to post some pics from a real exciting online race last night but couldnt line up a good pic. :(
I have run into the same problem. I think you have to save the replay. And then the next time you start up the game you should do with the controller instead. Then you should be able to go and find the saved replay and take some pictures..

Ok, I got it figured out. The controller must be set to #1. If you have the wheel plugged in, it will take the #1 spot. However if you hold down the PS button for awhile it will take you into the menu where you can reassign the controller to the #1 spot. It will work normally then.
