I was just wondering if anyone else has had problems with the game crashing to destop? It only happens to every couple of days so not to often.
Also, has anyone gotten the message, while in the middle of combat, "THe is a problem with your network connection" then it takes you pack to the screen where you pick the server you want to play on. It then says, your connection to the server has been lost. I'm assuming this is just one of the drawbacks of online gaming.

I haven't, but I know peeps who have... if you do not have the best network, BF2 has a built-in kick that will boot if you have so many packets lost in a row... it is to prevent server lag
One thing that helps, some servers have turned off the bandwidth choke...this helps, but doesn't fix your issue
*shrug* might be bad for you, but I have to say, the ping and bandwidth of my fellow players does not seem to have as big of an impact on my lag in BF2 as it has/does in many other games...lag is based more on the HOST pc and weather or not it sucks...

Bandwidthchoke on serverside does not currently work. So that's not the problem here. High pingers will not cause you to have lag problems either. You might see them warp around, but they will not cause you to lag.
Perhaps something is flaking out at your ISP?

I have fiber optic ISP and I get these problem sometimes. The one that pisses me off most is when my computer decides to spontaniously reboot ( only happens on this game and DOOM3 is way more demanding). I think that depending on some of your hardware you get different issues. I even got the issue with the pixelization of my screen yesterday that Monos was having problems with Sun, reboot fixed that for me. Hopefully 1.03 will fix most of these problems.

I've got a pretty serious gaming rig and a fiber connection also and I've had issues with losign connection, drop to desktop, mem-leak lag to crash, and all of the other fun nonsense being reported by everyone else. I experience NONE of the problems outside this game and I assure you my hardware and the drivers are set correctly and up to date.

Hey SLCoran, more often then not this is caused by one of two problems.
A. CPU Temp overheating
B. GPU Temp overheating
generally game crashes will drop you to the desktop, reboots mean hardware locked up normally. Yes demanding games also will cause the cards to work harder and heat up more.
Try running for a week with your case open and a fan blowing on it, often summertime jacks up the heat just enough to hit that critical point and start giving a computer intermitten crashes.

I get bumped to desktop every now and then. It normally happens the first time I try to connect to our server. It usually looks like it's staring to load then BAMMM!!! I'm staring at my desktop icons.

One other thing Coran, is to check and see if you have the "automatic BSOD reboot" setting on. You might be getting a BSOD but reseting before you see the message.

Where do I find this setting?

I experienced the game crash for the first and second time last night. The first time I started my computer when I got home, opened BF2, got onto a server and then boom. I crashed right when I hit the join button. The second time was about an hour later About half way through a map. I am sure it was not heat or driver related. I also noticed that when a round completes, right before it shows who has won, I get a real quick flash of a connection problem. I never lose connection to the server though and continue playing as normal. Could it be possible that something is wrong with the BF2 code that is causing this?
Just to note, the system I play on is 2 months old. All current drivers, patches, and so forth, broadband connection. Problem can occur at any time of the day or night. As a test, I opened my laptop and was sitting in EQ to see if it dropped connection. Never happened. Desktop does not experience problems with any other game unless my net connection does drop.

This is a server-side issue. It has to do with the memory leak on the server. Once you see this for a good 4-5 maps in a row, the server will crash soon.

Thanks for the fast reply admin, that would explain why the server completely dumped after a couple more rounds. Maybe one day this will get stable.

Word from serveral trusted partners that I know is that EA knows this crashing is an issue with 64-player servers. They are working on a fix for it to be released in v1.03.

Right-click "My Computer". Select the "Advanced Tab". Select "Startup and Recovery". Look under "System Failure" and uncheck "automatically Restart". This will let you know if it is a driver issue of some sort. Sometimes it reboots too fast and you don't see the message.
