My gf and I just came back from a Segway Tour of the Chicago lake-front. It was freaking fun!!! This one Tour company doesn't have speed limiters on their segways. We were flying. Since it's off-season now, there were only 4 of us on the tour, which lasted 2 hours. They teach you how to ride it and off we went. It was a little weird at first having to balance on it, but after about 5 minutes, it was like second nature. The tour guide was pretty cool, informative, and laid back. We stopped at several big plazas on the lake front and we could zoom around on the segways. Good times! I highly recommend anyone that visits Chicago to do one of these tours. Those things are stupidly fun!

http://www.chicagosegwaytour.com is the outfit that we went with. Normal is $65/person for the 2.5 hour evening tour we did. During the day, 2-hour is $55. We had a groupon and it was $40/person for the evening tour.
I recommend the weekday evening tour since the pathways are completely empty of pedestrians, joggers, and cyclists. You pretty much blast the segway full tilt most of the way.
What are the weight constraints to ride a Segway?
All gliders must be above 100lbs and below 240lbs

LOL hahaha! awesome picture Bob!
The 2 guys that were with us on the tour had a few beers before they showed up. I'm sure if you're obviously drunk, they're not going to let you ride their segway into the lake. :)

that sucked. I wonder what the circumstances were that caused him to go out of control.

plummeting off a cliff edge is probably the part where he lost control :lol
probably just did not see it maybe he was talking on his mobile phone, hard to tell if he had a heart attack or not though.
I honestly did not know that people used them for recreation!

I didnt realize they had an offroad version. Although in this case it would seem to be safer to stay on paved surfaces.

The tour guide that was with me had the offroad version. It's bigger with offroad tires. Pretty sweet ride, if you ask me.
