Venting about STUPID rich people

So this "family" farmer calls me up. I had done a format and update on his laptop approx two months ago.

He says I never did get the printer to work after you fixed my laptop and
it has seem like it was slower since you worked on it.

So I head out there, only 5 miles. He has four instances of the printer installed and none of them will work etc.

I told him "If he thought it was slow after I worked on it, he should have gotten a hold of me the next day".
I don't know what you or someone else have done on this laptop in the last two months.

Yep its infected again and the trojan he had I have seen often and most likely came from facebook.
Well the wife and her kids probably did that.
But he needs it fixed because-----------------

he has $300,000+++ GPS self driving tractor.
He is a 3-4th generation "family" farmer so he inherited all of his land.

"DON'T YOU THINK AFTER SPENDING THAT MUCH ON A TRACTOR HE WOULD HAVE A DEDICATED LAPTOP JUST FOR IT, SAFE FROM INFECTIONS"

Install Linux on it and forget about it.

That is how I resolved my wifes computer woes with viruses, spyware, malware, etc.

One thing I have learned in the IT consultant world and that is:

As soon as you touch any machine, everything from that point on is your problem / fault and oh by the way I am not paying you to clean it again!

The self steering tractor uses GPS to plant straight rows even in hilly terrain allowing maximum planting, which also adds to more chemicals used and polluting our water source just to add more profit to the land owner.

As for linux I have two college students using dual boot xp/ubuntu with strict instructions to only use XP when they have to (ie they have to have Office 2007 to print at the college resource facility).

I am waiting to see if they can adapt to a dual boot environment.

that reminds me of an assembly story that my teacher told us in school about the 2 farmers who ploughed their fields one of them had lovely straight furrows and the other was all warped and bent, he asks the other farmer how he manages to get such straight lines and he replies, " i fix my sights on something in the distance and head towards it.

the other farmer tries this but still his furrows are all messed up and he goes back to the first one and says " hey your trick did not work i fexed my sights on something in the distance and yet my furrows are still all messed up, the first farmer asks, "what did you use?" the second farmer then says, i used the cow in the next field!

there was obviously a deeper meaning to all this, but it was funny never the less

:popcorn:Funny you mention Facebook, I have spent a least a week or two making sure my girlfriends laptop works well again. Had to restore the whole drive. She got a trojan and it total messed up the hard drive. The only site(s) she told me that she visited alot was Facebook. I had no doubt she got it from that site. Thats one reason I don't do Facebook.:dunno:
