Commanding tonight on Oman, when I instruct several squads to push one of the beach points. I then notify them that artillery is incoming and to hold back a moment.

zip zip zip .. 7 - 9 enemy bunkered down and toasted. Add to this the 1 squad of 6 that does not know how to read the hud and see Artillery or apparently have VOIP enabled so they can hear me telling everyone the same fact.

Yeap - Killed all of them and the APC they were riding in.

Any guesses what comes next. For some reason unknown to me I did not get kicked. but ended with a -24 points. At this point I resigned and left the server.

Whenever I hear the commander issue the arty strike near me, I zoom in real quick to make sure it is not going to hit me. If it is, I back up.

So if any of that squad is reading this - RTFM again!

I can tell you that from a clan perspective, the VOIP is a piece of crap... we do not use it at all... as far as I know, Å|Ryan and I are the only two members who even have it on at all...

several reasons for this...
1. VOIP sucks... it cuts in and out, has a delay, and does not do well with volume adjustment
2. VOIP does not let you communicate when you are dead... usually when you need to talk most
3. VOIP does not let you talk when loading or idle (like waiting for initial spawn)
4. VOIP causes feedback if you run another chat program at the same time... like TS ... this turns many clans off from using it because they get bad feedback if more then one of them are on the VOIP and in their TS server... easiest to just turn the VOIP off
...

in other words... use the TS server for communication (WiH runs a public one just for you... ) and remember that if the guys you are trying to talk to are in a clan, they most likely do not have it on...and are on their own TS or vent servers

That situation sucks, I hope when they rework teamkilling, that Artillary, Mines, Claymor never count as team kills. Lets be honest with the Artillary especially, there is always plenty of warning / time.

Bind it to different keys and there is no feedback. CAPS - TS and F for ingame for myself currently. The ingame VOIP is crappy compared to TS.

No matter what you do the BIG RED MAGNET will always draw some tard, if not alot of tards to it. My advise is to use the arty sparingly  or accept the fact that ppl wil punish you for thier stupidity  .

IMO, landmines and arty works just perfectly now. If they make landmines and arty not count as Tk, then I can purposely TK my teammates and they can't do crap to me or my scores. I can really really piss off the whole team and not be penalize for it.

I know that I have been in the heat of battle and had arty dropped on me simply because I was fighting and did not look up at the HUD. When you are dodging, shooting, running, ducking, reviving, praying, knifing looking at HUD drops to the bottom of my to do list REAL fast. So don't be fast to judge people that you TK with arty.
1 time I was in the area pinned down by a tunguska, tank, and 2 people on ground, command said in VOIP to get out, I couldn't move. he TK'd me then started cussing me out in TS because he didn't know I was in TS. Apprerantly didn't know who I was either from the words I heard him call me in TS, after I replied, "that was me and I COULDN'T move" he promptly removed the foot from his mouth and apologized. So don't be quick to deem anyone that gets TK'd from arty as stupid, you never know who is listening.

I agree with wihadmin, I have givin up on commanding just becouse of this situation though. The few times I have tried similar things have happend. I have been guilty of running in to Arty in the heat of battle but I do not punish the poor bastage that sent it down becouse it was my fault for either not paying attention or thinking "I can make it through in my speedy jeep :hehehe: . I have the same philosophy about land mines ect. The only time I punish is if I am TK'd repeatedly, or someone shoots me to get a vehicle or my seat on one. Hell I am even hesitant to shoot sometimes when the "RED BLUE BUG" is afoot and have been killed by a bad guy showing blue just to avoid a TK. Yet I have still been punished for fools running in front of my slightly laggy little jeep and tank ect.

We dont need a patch to fix this we need community members and players to be a little more tolerant and relize SHIT HAPPENS. You may be on either side of that punish button at any time so use the golden rule. If every one does that then there will be more time to play and less time bitching about things.

The reason I say it is stupid Poop Stick is because I've run at it, been pinned dwn for it and been flat out nailed by it myself. Most of the time I get hit by my own teams arty is my fault and I'll not punish most of the time because I was STUPID. There are exceptions to every rule because I remember arting those 2 squads 1 of which you were in as you so generously pointed out  . That was my fault, but it also taught me to not rely on the fact the ppl don't look at the HUDs very much. So don't take my generalizations as a personal slam because most of the ppl I've tk'd since that little incident have been ppl I've never seen and ran at the red magnet, because now I really watch where my team is more than ever.

To complete my thought ( got interrupted by lunch truck) the part that is stupid is the fact that the commander get punished for the run in. I almost never place arty anymore if a team mate is close and it still happens cause some guy in a jeep drives into it. I want to
help you as commander by pounding the enemy in front of you but can't because I'll get that 1 guy or squad and get punished or banned and that sux no matter who's fault it is.[/u]

well, if you want to command to help out, and your concern is loosing points by tk-ing, fret not for your score is not based on your kills/TK's but soley on the teams outcome. :)

Couple days ago i can't remember exactly but as commander i had numbers like, 17 kills 6 team points that should be 40 points, but I had a total of 29 and a x2 win bonus. so I KNOW for a fact your kills/points don't matter. I do NOT know how commander points are determined though.

I do NOT know how commander points are determined though.

Best I can tell points are given to commanders by flag caps and squads asking for and commanders responding to requests. Kills don't count but tk's and punishes do. I do play commander to help win maps not for points, because I could get more points in a chopper or on the ground in a good squad than as commander.

well good, thats settled. you play commander not for the points. no need to worry about TK then :)

If mines/artil/claymores didn't give negative points but still allowed you to punish, I think things would be better.

I think Coran is talking about the punishing part. hit 3-4 ppl with arty and they punish and you are banned for 20 min.

you would not belive how many people purposely run into an arty strike.

Yeah I see it alot as well, I guess peoplethink it is easier to kick the Commander out of the game, than to actually get a mutiny through
