I know some of you may have heard of this its a forum game called Mafia.
I'm thinking of running it and want to see who is willing to be in the game.
I'm thinking about 20 people would be good for a first game.
Da Rules:
When the next moderator in line sees that there are enough players for a game, he or she will start a new thread for that game. The first post will contain the rules and roles being used, who the players are, and what time(s) each day trials for lynching will conclude. Simultaneously, all players will be PMed their role after which they may choose to accept it and play the game or opt out, at which time the role will be offered to the next player in line. When all players for a game have confirmed participation, the game will begin.
Goal
Innocent players win when there are no guilty players left in the game. Mafia win if they are no longer outnumbered by innocent players.
Night Phase
The Moderator will announce nightfall. All roles will be allowed to use their powers as outlined below. The Moderator will record all actions. Players are not allowed to hold private conversation at any time, including the night. Special groups may communicate as indicated below in "The Powers" section. When all tasks have been completed, night concludes. Play alternates between day and night which one phase beginning when the other concludes.
Day Phase
Moderator announces daybreak. Moderator announces who died in the night and reveal only player status: guilty or innocent. Failed murders, inspection results, and the cause of death are not noted in any way. Discussion begins. "Dead players" are no longer allowed to discuss the game in any way with other players. Any player may accuse any other player. If the accusation is seconded, the accused player is on trial. He will then be given an opportunity to give a defense and discussion continues. After a time, the Moderator may call for a vote. No votes given before the accused player posts a defense will be counted. Votes may not be changed once the Moderator counts them (but may be changed up until that point.) If the majority of the living players vote to convict the player on trial, he is lynched and dies. The player is acquitted otherwise. Accusations and votes may continue until more than 50% of the players are acquitted or players vote to go to sleep, in which case the day ends without a lynching.
Player Powers
Civilians do not have special powers. They are considered innocent and win the game only if they eliminate all guilty players.
Mafia are guilty. Every night, they may choose (as a group) to kill one person. They may communicate with other Mafia members and are advised as to who else is Mafia.
Each night, the Inspector chooses one person to inspect. The Moderator then reveals to the inspector whether or not this person is a Mafia member or inspector, and nothing else about them. This information is not automatically disclosed to the remaining players in the general discussion, but the Inspector may choose to identify himself along with any information that he has. Once one inspector has found the other they may communicate with each other and share their information.
A Vigilante, like Mafia, can kill one person each night. However, there is only one Vigilante, and he is considered innocent. The Vigilante, like Civilians, win if there are no Mafia remaining.
Angels may choose to protect one person each night. If this person is the victim of either the Mafia or the Vigilante, he will not be killed.
A Lunatic (only 1) can sacrifice himself to kill one person at any given time. He is considered innocent.
Masons are a secret order of citizens. They know who each other are. They know that they are all innocent. Masons may also hold conversation within their own group at night (but not during the day). They may communicate with no other players individually. In all other respects, they are like Civilians.
A Miller makes the game interesting. Although the Miller is innocent, he does not appear that way to most people. If an Inspected they will receive an affirmative reply that is he a Mafia. He is not notified of his position and neither is anyone else. He has no other powers and may be killed or saved in the same manner as Civilians.
