Long story short..

I sold my gaming rig in order to help relocate for a new job, once we settled in after relocation I became bored so I went out and got a console system (PS3), while that helped with the boredom a bit, the PS3 isnt quite filling my gaming fix the way the PC always did so I am putting another gaming rig together as my laptop barely plays CS:S.

Here is what I am looking at : (Keep in mind I am a diehard AMD fan and this rig is going to be air cooled for now.) Budget $1500 to $2000 (shipped)

Case : Antec 1200
Mobo : MSI 790FX-GD70 or 890FX-GD70 (coming in a few days)
CPU : AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition C3 stepping
RAM : OCZ AMD Black Edition DDR3 1600 4x2GB
PSU : Corsair CMPSU-850HX 850W
GPU : MSI - R5870 - Lightning (single for now)
HardDrive : WD Velociraptor WD1500HLFS
CPU Cooler : CoolerMaster V8
DVD : Plextor PX-880SA-26
Monitor : ASUS VH236H or ASUS VW246H

Anyone have any input or experience with any of the above they would like to share?

Thanks in advance.

Go ahead and wait. AMD has said their next generation Six-Core Phenom II's will only be compatible with the new chipset. What I have heard from people doing engineer tests, is the 890 chipset has better most stable bus speeds and overclockability.

Now I know we don't need a six core CPU, and probably won't for a number of years. How ever if he's considering an 890FX board, and has the funds for it, then go for it. The improved bus bandwidth may help him enjoy that Radeon HD 5870 even more.

Thanks Shadowryche for the input, I am leaning more towards the 890 just from a future upgrade standpoint.

Fozzy, it's good to be back, I really did miss you guys!

LOL.

Stealth,

The temp machine I have right now only has a built in graphics card hd 3300 and attempting to play BFBC2 is a joke (in single player it's a lag fest) so I can only imagine what MP online would be like, I can play CSS though :-)

I should have my machine ordered by the end of this week, Was just waiting for the release of the new AMD boards on Monday, then I will be able to venture online with BFBC2.

Phyxius,

You playing regularly? I saw you got a new vidcard.

When I am online I am usually on WiH TS so look me up there.
