View Full Version : Anti-cheat?

So after playing last night on a server running some sort of anti-cheating software (possibly they got PB working, I don't know), I'm convinced that cheating is running rampant in BFBC2. About every three minutes, an account would be banned for aimbotting or multihack, just on this one server.

I have also seen at least one case in which an enemy player looked like a friendly (even had the ability to revive people on my team), but could still kill us. So he'd go around killing people, reviving them, killing them again, reviving them... over and over.

Given that only the most blatant of cheaters (like the above case, SMG snipers, etc.) can be detected through observation in a game like this, can or will WiH implement some sort of software countermeasure on its servers?

I am in the process of getting my server on the Punkbusters streaming hub. I think what you are seeing is when a server is on this hub and a person is banned, the message goes out to all servers on the PB streaming hub. I could be very wrong, hopefully someone will come along and correct me if so.

More information on the PB streaming hub here:

Using PBBANS on cod 4 you could control if it gave you the global bans in game or just your own servers bans.

PBBANS banned over 200 people in the last 24 hours.

I've been really thrilled reading about all the bans PB is handing out. :woot: More bans in the last 24hrs then all of the previous bans in BC2.

IIRC, the way they (punkbuster) likes to do things is that when a game comes out, they let it stew for a few weeks for the hackers to come up with the hacks. Then they bust them all in 1 fell swoop. I think this is what we're seeing right now.

We'll implement PB streaming asap. The problem now is BC2 servers are already randomly crashing and PBBANS streaming could be contributing to that. We want as few variables contributing to crashing as possible for now. When the time is right we'll implement streaming.

Hell, EA recommends disabling PB (let alone streaming) right now to stabilize crashing!

Out of sheer curiosity, where do our servers stand right now in regards to PB/anti-cheat?

Out of sheer curiosity, where do our servers stand right now in regards to PB/anti-cheat?Let's just say we lean more towards server stability at this point. It's obvious to most server admins EA & Dice are still developing the server side. We will tighten the screws when the time is right.
