View Full Version : Dice working on bugs

I found this on another forum posted today for R5:
These are confirmed bugs and limitations in the current build of BF:BC2, that have come up many times through our support here. DICE is aware of these bugs and is working on fixes for them.
- Servers crash/freeze or drop players occasionally, due to software glitches in the engine and issues on the EA authentication back-end. Our system will auto-restart them when this happens.
- In-game pings are inaccurate and sometimes show much higher than they actually are.
- The client browser doesn't always show all the servers and sometimes it takes multiple refreshes to see a particular server. Also, client favorites don't always work (which may be alleviated by removing the beta); the server list is very slow to load; filters clear every time "search" is clicked; it's not possible to connect to a server by IP address; sometimes the ping shows as "--" instead of a real number; server banners don't always show correctly; and search is case sensitive.
- A real player slot is dedicated to each of the players specified in the reserved slot list, preventing anyone else from using it. This differs from the intended behavior of allowing players with reservations to join and kicking another player.
- Long server descriptions cause problems on the client loading screen.
- Switching to Hardcore mode requires a map change.
- Server variables like hardcore mode sometimes are forgotten/ignored during map changes.
- The autobalancer does not always do a good job.
- The mapcycle sometimes doesn't work right and repeats maps or does not change to some of the maps specified.
- Setting a server (join) password prevents anyone from being able to connect to it, even if they know the password (due to a client-side timeout).
- Changing the server name requires a restart (by design).
- The server can only run one game mode, requiring a restart between changes to this (by design).

After optimizations and restarts yesterday, we had been stable across all platforms. Unfortunately, we encountered another outage at approximately 9:30 AM PST today.
- X360 was severely impacted, and the service is being restarted. It should be back online and we are monitoring closely.
- PC had an outage, but the service is offline currently and the service is being restarted. It should be back online and we are monitoring closely. We will then start checking the quality of the customer experience to determine possible next steps.
- PS3 appeared to have a brief outage, but has quickly recovered and the services is functioning properly at this time.

All teams are actively engaged in diagnosis and remediation. We are adding additional services to alleviate load. Despite having a major infrastructure in place, the peak traffic this weekend has been huge, 400% higher than any other Battlefield's peak simultaneous users. The teams will continue to monitor the services closely. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and will provide further updates on the latest developments as they are relevant.

@joker -I think these issues are more about the server side then the client side problems.

Second hand info here, but I was told that some PSAs were told not to setup anymore BC2 servers by EA giving them time to catch up with issues.

I have my Thompson, and the M1 is highlighted in gadgets like I can use it, but I can't pick it in any kits, maybe have to have a certain rank?

Your suppose to just have Veteran Rank 1.

Strange thing I noticed is that I can't add Bad Company 2 to it now..but yeah

I am guessing all efforts are going into server side issues. They need to get people online playing before they will worry about client fixes. I don't expect a client patch for a few weeks.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 PC Server Update and EA Maintenance
BY: Bazajaytee POSTED: Mar 09, 2010, 08:10AM TOTAL VIEWS: 2,436 COMMENTS: 64
As you probably noticed, we have experienced an outage across EA servers today, this was caused by a routing issue outside of EA's control but it has been solved and things are back up and running again.
Tomorrow at 8:00 GMT/9:00 CET and 12:00 (midnight) PST the EA servers will be brought down for maintenance. There is no current time for when the servers will return so keep an eye on our Twitter for more up to date information as we get it: http://twitter.com/OfficialBFBC2
On a more positive note, we have released the R6 server to server providers today which should stop the PB INIT FAILURE messages that have been causing problems recently, as well as releasing new server versions, we are still investigating and fixing connectivity and stability problems that are being reported in the forums http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-bad-company-2-pc/.
Overall I'm pretty pleased with how they've been communicating with whats going on. Wish things would get fixed a little sooner but they're workign on it and once you get into war is hell servers the game plays pretty damn well so it's not all bad.

Damn has it been that long. I guess we've all gotten older. The younger Ruci would have gone postal already. ;)
