View Full Version : EA BF:BC2 forums are a mess

I've been reading through the Battlefield Bad Company 2 PC ( http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/forums/show/3827.page) forums. Which could possibly be my first mistake.

As I wade through the flames in progress I can't help but noticed the sheer number of complaints on some rather important and basic game functions. Things like network connections, graphic performance, control issues and hit detection. Oh and my favorite no prone.

Now I personally was surprised that prone was not included in the game and the only real explanation as to why it was removed is here (http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/385991.page) which isn't so much an explanation at all. So does someone have a link to something that actually explains why prone is not in the game anymore?

I've read all the posts here about some of the issues and how to fix them at least for some with the right hardware. And there are solutions to other issues here as well. What I want to know is what the real verdict is so far on the game without taking into account our intense want to enjoy the game due to our loyalty to the brand name and pretty pretty graphics.

Are these posts on the EA forums accurate? Would it be better "honestly" to simply wait to buy or play the game a few months from now when they perhaps fix some of the more troubling issues with patches?

Don't censor your responses. I want to know the cold hard facts.

I don't have a link but I was reading about the no prone before release.
It was my impression that prone was left out because of the crying about it in BF2.
aka the dolphin dive, jump prone.
If you had a good machine and someone with an average or low end machine watched you do this it would appear to them as if you went prone mid air and floated down. (I have seen this personally)
The idea behind the dolphin dive was to mess with hit detection and own your enemy.
BF2's patch 1.5 added a large delay in prone shooting accuracy so even the diehard dolphin divers that still play BF2 infantry don't use it anymore.

Prone also let players find holes in the maps. On Jalalabad you could get inside a rock.

So I don't miss prone. I would like a crouch toggle but that would make it easier for the snipers and I don't like them LOL.

The server browser, friends list and perk/gadget systems look to be taken straight out of BF2142. There is so much BF2142 in this game it makes me think they just took the BF2142 code and put it on the frostbite engine. So in time they may be able to patch in some smoothness to the game, but will they is the question.

Besides the graphic setting thread (I liked foxtrots) of setting everything to low,
most people are leaving their ingame resolution turned up. Setting everything to low and turning down your in game res will take away the pretty graphics but may have to be done to make the game play without video lag without buying new pc parts.

I rate the game 3.5 out of 5 and if they fix the ingame squad voip I would raise that to 4.5 / 5

Squad work is the fame of the BF series. A single experienced squad that works together can dominate in the game.

The [GoD] clan was originally the godsquad on the WiH I/O BF2 server.

If you have the money buy it now and join the fun.
The game is not perfect, but if you enjoy the squad work and the crowd in TS3
just buy it.

Keep in mind, for folks that don't remember me in my BF2 days on here, that I made the rank of Colonel or General in BF2. I also played several mods and was rather good at PR. So certain draws to the Battlefield series I have already experienced in depth and am quite familiar with it.

Squad play is a given. A BF game without squad play is like a bull without a big dick. It's still a Bull but now it's fucking useless. So I give no extra points to a Bad Company 2 for having squad play. It's expected. I heard that squads have been limited to 4 people. Is that because there are 4 kits? Only 32 players per map so squads become fire teams?

On the matter of kits as I do more research...

WTF is up with a Medic have a LMG/SAW gun?
WTF is up with an Assault kit who is the biggest spammer getting an ammo box and C4?
The engineer with a big AT gun or something makes sense for the most part so I'll give them that combination of kits.

As to the prone thing, using the excuse that people will dolphin is not an excuse. That's the programmers being lazy and didn't want to bother FIXING THAT ISSUE when they developed the game. You don't think they could have simply made it so you couldn't prone while not in contact with the ground? Is that too hard? Apparently so. Also the excuse for snipers is pretty lame. I rarely played a sniper, mainly because I thought it was boring as fuck, and useless to the team and I went prone constantly. Behind walls, behind and within bushes and all sort of places. So the removal of Prone is nothing more than a pussy excuse by the developers to not fix a problem that has existed for years.

Wow. I haven't even played the game yet and I already have dislikes on very fundamental things about the game. Couple this with no developer tools for Mod Devs and I think I might grab a copy of this game from someone else and use their login and pw so I don't have to pay full price or just go back to PR instead and stay there.

Though in hopes it will get better I will wait and see and hope things get fixed. After all I have a few months before I will even be able to play it.

The no prone thing isn't a big deal. Seriously, I haven't missed it at all. The Assault kit with the ammo box isn't that big of a deal - the rate at which you get ammo back is slow enough where it isn't a constant 1 man grenade barrage.

The 4-man squad system works just fine - i just wish my mic worked in game right now.

Not really sure whats with the multitude of complaints on the EA forums. As for the mod tools, they'll probably come out a little later on in a patch.

I just hope they fix the connection issue because I now have a $50 coaster.

With a view like that don't buy the game, you will never like it.

After all I have a few months before I will even be able to play it.

I wish I would have known this ^, I wouldn't have wasted my time posting.

Hey I said I would wait to see if it got better. Sorry to have wasted your precious time.

BTW this guy's video was pretty funny and actually made me less irritated about the game. It's a console video but it actually kind of useful. Oh and funny which is a good thing.

Edit add: BTW sorry for being so pissy about what I am reading about the game. Honestly after 6 years I was just hoping that DICE would put out a BF game that was on par with BF2 with proven and tried mechanics after many patches and expanded on that but with better graphics. Obviously they didn't do this and instead came out with an different game with different mechanics and better graphics and now are running into the exact same bugs they ran into with BF2 and BF2142. In other words, they didn't learn all that much from their past mistakes. That's where the most of my disappointment stems from.

I'm not reading many BC2 forums anymore. The Steam forums became a hive of scum, villany, and Rick Rolls right before the release. Lots of complaining.. Some of which is justified.

Although, I think a lot of people were figuring this would be BF3. It is NOT BF3. It is DICE's answer to Modern Warfare. They've taken MW and given us squads to improve teamplay. I think this is a great advancement.

While there are some problems, I think it's running fairly well for a game that came out a week ago. It's running a lot better then I expected it to. They'll patch it up and tweak the balance soon enough. I do feel bad for the guys who cant even get in game though. If I was one, I'm sure my opinion would be different.

I'm having some of the most intense firefights ever in this game. I'm sorry you're judging the game based on forum rants. :dunno: It really is pretty bad ass. Yeah there are some changes from the battlefield norm, but change isnt always bad. BF1942 and Vietnam didnt have squads. BF2 changed that.

Hey I said I would wait to see if it got better. Sorry to have wasted your precious time.

We're all having a good time playing the game and yeah there are some bugs associated with it. I'm not sure what kind of response you were expecting to get from people when you haven't played the game or beta and would take the forums from EA or Steam as more reasonable than WiH forums on how people like it so far. Honestly this game is the most bad ass game I've played yet on PC.

The kits are appropriately decked out as support/assault/anti-vehicle/spec-ops. Have you ever given thought to that theres a good reason as to why the mechanics and gameplay have been improved to be more team oriented? It's never fun to get owned by some prick in a bomber for a whole map.

I'd have to agree with Ruci. The game is buggy, and there are some non-standard 'things' to gripe about, but its a freakin blast. It's somewhat well balanced for a game that came out 5 days ago, and of course, in this 'online' day and age, patches will fix what isn't. It's well worth your $50. I may pick up a copy for my PS3 so I can play with those buddies too! :)
