BFBC2 Controls (fixes)

Hey guys,
I am hot on the trail of the controls setup. I have cleared all the joystick inputs from the foot settings already and now I am onto the air controls setup. As I fix them I will post them here on the first post.

**If you use these controls you will be setting any controls you altered to mine. You will have to go back in and change them.
My changes in foot settings: (uploaded 3/3/10 @ 10am EST)
IN GAME VOIP: left alt --> B
CROUCH: right control --> F

My changes in air settings:
none
To fix the reversed Yaw and Throttle you have to go into your air.dbx file in "...my documents/bfbc2/input/air.dbx" In that file you have to alter two lines:
1. using wordpad open the air.dbx
2. search for " IDA_Axis1X " and make sure it is under the field for "ConceptMoveFB"
3. Change the following line " <field name="ScaleValue">1</field> " to " <field name="ScaleValue">-1</field> "
4. Search for " IDA_Axis1Y " and make sure it is under the field for " ConceptYaw "
5. Change the following line " <field name="ScaleValue">1</field> " to " <field name="ScaleValue">-1</field> "

I have added my air.dbx below, but it is for the x52. So, if you have the x52 feel free to use it.

Ok, well I got the following sorted for sure:
Infantry.dbx
land.dbx

I removed the joystick settings from those two tabs and mapped just the mouse and keyboard controls.

I have edited the air.dbx as well, but I can't get into the game to try it out. I am still getting network lost errors :(

The friggin worst button is the middle mouse button for melee. I changed that to V. Stupid thing is though I haven't figured how to just delete a button setting from in game.

PS: I set it to the back browser window button the mouse instead

you can't delete a button from the game without editing it or setting it to another location and then resetting it. Stupid yes. Which do you want to delete?

ok, I think believe it is all sorted out, but can't be sure till I can log in and try.

all you have to do to get rid of the air controls where you dont want them is... for every joystick control, map it to the trigger. everytime you reproduce that action it deletes the former preset. in the end you only have one control preset to the trigger which takes care of all the weird joystick-movement issues while on foot and in armor.

you have to have a mouse or keyboard that could do that :) Like a gaming keyboard or mouse or gamepad.

You actually don't need to have a macro enabled keyboard. You can download and install a program called Autohotkey http://www.autohotkey.com/. With this you can make scripts that can enable you to do different things with the keyboard.

Please not that this is the program that enabled people to dolphin dive in BF2 so well. They mapped 3 different keys to one button which is what made it so effective. I'm trying to figure out how to make scripts so I can toggle crouch and make my spot while shooting.

Not sure if this is a control setting or not, but has anyone else noticed you can spot only once every 20-30 seconds? I remember the old BF games you could just keep spotting all game, but in this it doesnt seem you can?

Yeah the spotting seems a bit off. Sometimes is works sometimes it doesn't. For me there doesn't seem to be a time limit in-between the spottings.

Hey there,
you want to delete the axis in the air column?

easy way is to go into the settings and set everything to one key. It will keep overwriting the other bindings so that you have only one key bound.

that is the easy way.

the hard way is to go into the air.dbx and delete all the IDA_Axis settings.

ok i removed all of the IDA_Axis and cleard all but the cary top one which i changes to a button i wont use now the only problem is when i go to turn my charicter left he turns right an when i got right he goes left other than that everything seems to be working perfect any idea what to do with that?

if you are using the joystick for movement, then you need to go back into the air.dbx and switch the scale value from 1 to -1 to invert the joystick (see first post).

Hey, I used the air settings of you, and yaw turning works now. However, the Throttle. I cannot get it working with my joystick buttons. Logitech force 3d pro is my joystick and if someone would be able to fix that or tell me how to fix it..<3.

Hey Kibe, thanks for stopping by War is Hell Gaming. The throttle as you know does not work with the logitechs, but binding a button to ascend and descend should work. If you go into your air settings, you can not click on a box to set the key and then hit a button?

Sure I can. However, those keys do nothing. If u check the file, there's keys for throttle. Still, only w and s are doing the job. It's weird, those joystick keys working for throttle, when I use default air file, but then yaw is messed up. And when I use your file, yaw is fine but joystick keys doesnt work :bawling:

I have a Cougar HOTAS, I have managed to program all the functions I wish to use, but I can not for some reason get the "free look" to work properly on any button I assign it too on the Cougar, even if I re assign it on the keyboard. It does however work fine pressing the keyboard button?

okay, go into control panel and look for gaming controllers. See what is listed there. IF it is only the X52 then there has to be something else getting in the way.

Just a thought, try unplugging the Cyborg and use a standard keyboard to see what happens.

Hello Drayu. I started looking for a profile for the Saitek x52 for Bad Company2 and started seeing your name all over the place. I finally followed you here. Thank you in advance for your work.

I run Win 7-64 bit. Just purchased Bad Company2 from Steam. I purchased the x52 several years ago but stopped gaming and have not used it before.

Are the links for air, infantry and land that you posted here still valid. You discussed making changes from early March after you first posted it, so I wanted to verify these are current and that I just need to copy them into my game folder.

Can you confirm? I have already downloaded the latest Win 7-64bit drivers from Saitek.

First, Welcome to War is Hell Gaming.

So, what are you looking to do? You can use the land.dbx in the first post and then just go into your controls in game and set the axis as you like. At that point, we will probably need to adjust some settings...but start there.

I believe the problem is that bfbc2 isnt recognizing my axis on the x52pro. If I load your dbx, and then select on foot, I can change mouse axis, but when I click a joystick item, bfbc2 never seems to see the axis movement..

I'm running win7 x64, and I do have a logitech G13 which is unplugged when I try this; I'm also running bfbc2 from steam, and I have not loaded any profile into the x52 (I assumed I didnt have to);

Does bfbc2 have a limit on the # of axis it looks for? (ie is my g13 getting in the way in this test?)

it does have a limit to axis, but not over all...only to the number on the joystick. I can try it when I get home later as right now we are off to easter dinner.

As an FYI to everyone I've found that Retro's mouse fix file seems to really have helped out with some of the mouse issues I've run into. I've noticed it particularly on MG in a tank, and as the shooter in the chopper.

i used the files from the first thread and now the joystick controls were gone which was what i wanted, but still during the game the weapon looks up and my movement is the same, like if i try to move left it moves right, but my right move doesn't move left, it moves right as well as my mouse as well. i tried unplugging every device i had which was mouse and keyboard just in case but the same problems occured...

it sounds like a hardware problem :( try another mouse and keyboard if you can. Because if I am reading it right, you are saying that when you press "A" you run right and when you press "D" you run right. That says keyboard issue to me (especially if it is mapped right in the controls)

oh hey i figured out what the problem was. i was using the downloaded RELOADED version, and they said that this version has bugs so move some txt files to the game file from the iso file would do it and it does! anyways thx for you help :)

I have got it to work but strange Of course I dont know what I'm doing,but got it to work trigger for fire and first button for right click on foot but in pilot trigger gets me enter in or out of chopper with the same setting hope I'm making sense, go figure second button does nothing that I have found yet?? that is with the g13 NOT pulled, makes no differance if it is pulled stays the same on the settings ??

Hi ppl ,I'm new here. I have the original (of course) BFBC2, my system is Win7 64bit and i have also Hotas Cougar joystic plugged in my PC and i cant control heli in the game. It seems like BFBC2 doesnt recognize the joystick or not recognize well.
If any of you can suggest me something which will hlp me is welcomed.

Hi guys, kind off an older or must I say oldish gamer....lmao, but still able to kick some youngsters a*****.
But on to the issues i have. Drayu, followed some "solutions" on the net for the joystick bugs with BFBC 2 and your name came up a few times. I tought you were giving out some reasonable advise and i then thought.....a community with people like him should be worth to be in.
My issues ( not counting in my age there ) logitech 3d extreme digital pro. Playing BF2 and after some struggles with the settings its working for that game. BFBC2 is another story. I have no working throttle ( can`t put in any setting ) Hat switch not working at all. Using the logitech MX revolution mouse together with the loitech setup to adress the buttons. Works fine up to a certain degree. But joystick issue is a pain in my old......( you know )

unfortunately, until DICE fixes the issues, the Logitech controllers have an issue with the throttle that can't be circumvented.

Hello again. Well, I've given up trying to play BC2 with my nostromo n52 and saitek x52 combo. I really want to fly the choppers in BC2 as I did in past versions of Battlefield but I can't go back to using a keyboard to play as infantry. Lack of HAT button for jump/crouch makes me irritable. However, I have noticed that Razer has come out with a new version of the Nostromo and was wondering if anyone out there has tried it with Bad Company and a joystick. Do you still get the weird conflicts and all?

You mean in the game? Nah, you can't change the mousewheel setting in the game and "mouse wheel invert" doesn't do anything it seems.

Though I finally found out which lines are for the mousewheel.
