I just installed win7 onto my gf's laptop. I noticed afterwards that whenever she's installing a new program, one or more cmdline windows popup and disappear. They look like batch program windows. Do you guys have any clue if there's a setting in Win7 to disable these pop-ups?

Thanks!

The only time I have seen pops of that sort was after installing windows updates that require a restart.

weird... her's is win7 64-bit. I'll have to dig deeper on this. I'll post back what I find.

Try using ProcessExplorer, and seeing what processes get started up when you see the console window. It should tell you exactly what happened and from where.

It depends on what type of programs she is using. Some older or special programs that do very specific things often use the command line because their program stuff hasn't been updated for years and still has been using that stuff.

that's probably what's happening. She was installing Rosetta Stone software.

Yeah, I still see that with certain software. It's usually configuration scripts. In some cases uninstallers will also open up command line windows. I wouldn't worry about it, unless it's happening for every single install.
